We hope you will find Heartrock Haven as “truly magical” as all of our past visitors. The reviews they provide tell it all!
This was a perfect getaway for my children, spouse and me to escape the pull of wifi/internet/computers/phones. We had such a great time hiking in the breathtaking landscape. The weather was crisp and cool fall days with some rain which made cozy reading by the fireplace all the more spectacular. Puzzles, games, reading and some very competitive air hockey made for terrific family time. And greeting the Friendly Fox on her daily visits did not disappoint! Since we didn't see a moose, I guess we'll be back!
The cabin is perfect. The property is beautiful! I am so relaxed and rejuvenated after visiting
We loved our visit. If you are looking for a cabin on a quiet lake on the Gunflint trail, this is it. Clear water, loons, and a nice dock. Very serene.
Heartrock Haven is all that you see on line --- beautify, peaceful, far away from noise/crowds....it was magical and our host was kind and there were so many special touches everywhere that we will all treasure...How did she arrange to have that family of loons serenade us? And the moose and her calf close by? That small mouth bass and glistening rainbow trout? We left refreshed and grateful!
My husband and I brought our adult daughter, my father-in-law, and my sister-in-law. It was the perfect size house for 5 adults, but any more than that, and it would have been too crowded. The lake was spectacular, and we paddled on it every day. We didn't catch any fish but had fun trying. Everything in the house was charming. We loved the fireplace. One thing to note is that the stairs to the second floor and basement are steep and narrow. We had planned for my father-in-law to sleep in the upstairs bedroom with the full bed--he is fine with stairs typically. Instead, he needed to sleep downstairs since navigating those tricky stairs was too difficult for him. Overall, it was a wonderful place I hope we can return to.
Very well stocked for cooking, sleeping or playing. Host is friendly & accommodating. Check-in is easy. Trail Center has a varied menu to please everyone’s palate. Hungry Jack Lodge has a great bar scene. Both restaurants are only a few miles from the cabin. Guests can catch trout from the dock or just enjoy the beauty & solitude of Lake Leo.
This is the third summer we have stayed at Heartrock Haven — simply heaven on the Gunflint Trail. The dock, the loons, the gliders the comfy bed… absolutely unforgettable. Already locking at the calendar for next year!
Overall a good place to relax and still enjoy the BWCA with friends!
Easy to rent and great communication with owner. A bit disappointed that the dock was pulled out as it was one of the reasons we selected it. Wanted to sit on the dock with our coffee and fish. Will need to go earlier next time. Amazing location and space.
This is the third time we have stayed at Karla’s cabin in the woods for our anniversary. We love it here. We spend so much time rushing through life this is the perfect place to stop a d reboot. Thanks, Karla
Very quiet and peaceful location with plenty of activities for all ages including games, and fishing for the children. Would highly recommend this place to anyone for a family vacation.
The property is inviting, well decorated, well supplied and so relaxing to stay at. Karla cares about her guests. Thank you for sharing your place with us.
We Loved our stay at the Heart Rock Haven! This place was clean, quiet, and the lake was so clear. This had everything for our family of 5. Thank you!
My son's birthday treat. He went kayaking several times a day! The peace and quiet is why we come-back. Karla is a great hostess. We lacked for nothing.
We had a great time at Heart Rock Haven. It's a fantastic location for exploring the area, and the cabin itself was both spacious and immaculately clean. We especially appreciated the kitchen, which is both larger and more well-stocked than typical cabin rentals. Leo Lake is gorgeous, peaceful and quiet. We loved watching loons and sitting on the dock. Kayaking was a highlight, too. Our stay was very relaxing and we hope to visit again!
For the second year in a row, we spent 10 plus days at HeartRock Haven on Leo Lake. It is simply heaven, a wonderful retreat in the Northwoods. Ideally situated on a hill overlooking Leo Lake, the property couldn't be more beautiful with white and red pines, spruce and aspen. We laughed a lot at the antics of the red squirrel and hummingbirds and were thrilled by the adult loon parents with their baby on the lake. We brought our kayaks and spent many hours on the water (quite a few in the water too). We'll be back next year!
Very responsive communicative host.
This was a great cabin for my family and I. The location was perfectly situated within the heart of the gunflint trail. The lake was extremely quiet. We only seen a few kayakers and the occasional canoe. Fishing from the dock was excellent as we all caught multiple rainbow trout. Weather was rainy at the beginning of the week, but the basement game room kept our kids occupied which was fantastic!! Overall, I would recommend this cabin to any family looking for a laid back vacation close to the boundary waters, but still within amenities of resort restaurants. The perfect summer getaway!!
Leo Lake is a quiet, beautiful north woods getaway but close to a couple of excellent restaurant/bars if you need some socialization. The cabin is comfortable & well-stocked for cooking + water & indoor games & activities. Our group of 6 ranged in age from 19 to 79 & everyone was happy.
