Lovely stay all around, everything was as advertised and better. This is a quiet home situated in the trees above the lake, comfortable with everything we needed for a vacation off-grid including cooking, baking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing. Fireplace heated up quick on the porch, an efficient wood insert. Big table for the family to eat together, incredible playroom on lower level for the kids. The woodwork in the home is noteworthy for its beautiful crown moldings around high ceilings. Bedroom setup was perfect for our family - rooms w/doors for mom/dad and teenager, younger two slept in loft beds which were still quietly removed from the top of the stairs. Many thanks to Karla for a great long weekend!

This is a slice of heaven in the Northwoods. The days were filled with awesome breakfasts close by and perfect fall colors. Fishing on Leo lake is always a treat. The evenings provide great food nearby, and quite dark nights for sleeping. Charming rustic cabin that we come back to again and again.

High school girl weekend, 4 of us. We loved being off the grid. No tv or internet. Played games, talked in the evening. Day time was hiking the near by trails. Checking out GM was fun also

We very much enjoyed our stay. It provides quiet and disconnect in a beautiful part of the world. The lack of cell phone service and internet, and just having a landline for any needed local calls, was restorative (and a blast from the past). The cabin was nice - kitchen, bedrooms, canoes/kayaks, dock - all very functional and helped foster a connection to the place. If you want to disconnect and reconnect, hard to think of a better place to do so.

Lovely cabin, very secluded! The property had comfortable beds, great kitchen supplies and cookware. We enjoyed the lake and catch and release fishing from the kayaks provided! It felt like a step back in time being unplugged from the outside world.

We loved our stay and wish it could have been longer. The bedrooms are nice, the fireplace room and game room are fun, and the location on the lake with a canoe and kayaks are amazing. In addition, there are outdoor bench swings and benches on the dock. The instructions are spelled out perfectly.

We love Karla’s place. It’s the 4th time we’ve stayed here. It is a quaint up north retreat with a vintage cabin on a private lake. It comes complete with fishing, kayaks, and a friendly camp fox. If you want to unwind and unplug this is perfection!

Heartrock Haven was a lovely place to stay. A beautiful spot on lake Leo with good fishing right from the dock! Enjoyed canoeing and kayaking with the provided boats on the low wake lake. Good hiking and food within 10 minutes of the property. Host made sure we had everything we needed. Would definitely book again.

My wife and I and 7-year-old grandaughter stayed at HeartRock Haven in early August 2024. It was my 2nd stay, but their 1st. I knew my wife would love it, but her joy exceeded my expectations. As soon as she saw the walk up the cabin in the woods, she turned to me and said, “I LOVE it already!” We loved the privacy and beauty and the swimming dock and the crystal clear water. The loons were out and treated us to their beautiful, haunting calls. The house is very spacious and clean and very-well stocked with kitchen gear and DVDs, and everything else we might need. And Grand Marais is a very special place. My wife wants to make it an annual trip and I’m more than fine with that! Lee L.

This is the perfect spot to stay during a trip to the gunflint trail. It is the perfect distance from the end of the trail and Grand Marais. It is also near many great hiking trails, the BWCA and is settled on a beautiful lake that is full of trout. The cabin is the perfect size for a family or two and provides you with everything you could need. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay during our trip to the North woods. Hoping to be back next year! Definitely consider this property when thinking of adventuring up north.
