Welcome to the Southwestern Cabin at the The Guadalupe River Road Retreat! We have three additional cabins (VRBO codes 7914761, 7911593, and 2016386) sharing six beautiful acres of Guadalupe river frontage, where guests are free to wander the park like setting under the shade of majestic oaks, pecans, and cypress trees. Enjoy fantastic views of the Guadalupe river from cabin decks and bench swings, take a nap in a hammock, relax and cook smores at our firepits, or play tennis day or night onour newly resurfaced tennis court, and of course spend time in and on the river!

Our retreat differs from many of the rental options on the river. We cater to families, couples, reunions and small groups who want a tranquil environment and wish to avoid the rowdy crowds and party cabins. We limit group sizes to what the cabins can comfortably accommodate, and we enforce our property rules regarding day guests, loud music, and disorderly conduct. If you are looking for an oasis on the river, a place where you can have fun but also relax in comfort, peace, and privacy, Guadalupe River Road Retreat is the place for you!

General info.

The Guadalupe River Road Retreat is located at 8910 River Road between the second and third crossing, halfway between Gruene and Canyon Lake, and is accessible via an electric gate (code provided upon booking).

We have two river access points, a concrete dock with steps down, or via a natural path down to a sitting area under the canopy of two massive cypress trees. Across the river from the property is a unique limestone expanse carved by the river where guests frequently enjoy hanging out, playing in the water, and watching the toobers float by.

There are multiple river outfitters within a short distance of the property, with the closest being Mountain Breeze which is less than a quarter mile from our access gate.

Gruene Texas, famous for its shops, restaurants, and the historic Gruene Dance Hall, is only nine miles (15 to 20 minutes south of our location). Sattler, where guests can find a small grocery store, gas, and other necessities, is only five miles (approximately 13 minutes) to the north.

It is our family’s 5th summer in a row to visit this beautiful property, lovingly maintained by the wonderful owners Carlton and Laura. Each house is immaculately clean and has everything we need in the kitchen to prepare meals. We enjoy drinking our coffee on the back porch deck, the chairs by the fire pit, or the swing, each with a stunning view of the Guadalupe River and canyon. We spend all day outside under the tall shade trees playing corn hole, grilling on the back porch every day for lunch, floating and cooling off in the river, and shooting hoops and playing badminton on the tennis courts for which you can turn on the lights for night games. We enjoy taking nature walks around the property looking at native flowers, trees, hummingbirds, and the butterfly garden, listening to the birds and even owls in the early evening. At night we watch the fireflies and cook s’mores by the fire pit that Carlton sets up for us. Carlton and Laura are the sweetest people, and we appreciate their kindness, care, and hard work to share their gorgeous property with visitors to make sure that we have everything we need and a wonderful, fun, easy experience. We treasure our happy memories there and can’t wait to come back.

An amazing get away to an amazing place. A very beautiful property with amazing hosts. Absolutely picture perfect with giant trees, wildlife, flowers and peace and quiet. Picture-Perfect river front area for relaxing or water fun. Can’t say enough about the kindness of the hosts. Two wonderful people. We will definitely go back and recommend to friends.

If you’ve ever driven down River Road and seen the American Flag and driven past, you passed up a great experience. First and foremost Mr. Carlton and Mrs. Laura are two of the nicest people you’ll ever meet, from meeting us at the gate upon our arrival to give us a small guided tour to the small talks every day. Just generally great people. Quiet down home atmosphere. We stayed in the SouthWestern cabin/house with the Santa Fe motif. House was cozy and spacious plus had all the amenities you need. The houses are in a gated tract of land away from the hustle and bustle of many of the other places on River Road. Private access to the river, so you can set up down there and enjoy the river or put in up river and float to the private access. If you put your tubes in at Meckels it’s about 2.5-3 hour float and if you put in at the beginning of Lazy L&L it’s about 7-8 hours.

Great spot on Guadalupe with personable owner who went above & beyond, repairing our inner tube, guiding us on floating, setting up the fire-it and equipping us with scores supplies. Our stay was enhanced by lovely bouquet of flowers in the house prepared by his wife. Highly recommended!

This was our 2nd time at this property. The southwest cabin was beautiful! Fresh flowers from Laura & Carlton were precious! Excellent location on the river. Water temperature was perfect. Privacy from other guests was great. Seen on the property a fox, ground squirrels, bumblebees, geese, all kinds of exciting critters! The water pressure from the shower head wasn't the best but all the positives outweigh the 1 negative. We will definitely be back! Love love love this location & the hosts!

We had a wonderful experience staying at the river road retreat. The property was amazing with lush greenery and a view of the river that was hard to step away from. Be prepared to see deer, white geese, a pair of Egyptian ducks, Hootie the owl, and black squirrels. The home that we stayed in was perfectly stocked with soaps, towels, kitchen utensils, soft sheets, coffee, water, trash bags, paper towels, toilet paper (Charmin) and all the makings for s'mores. Our river needs were met with a wagon to take down all of our items, an air compressor for our tubes, and extra tubes had we need them. Laura and Carlton were the perfect hosts who went out of their way to make sure that we had everything that we needed to have a wonderful stay. We will definitely be returning soon!
