Whimsical Hollow is a darling full log cabin that is nestled among some of the highest mountain peaks in Colorado. The views are absolutely amazing and the home is surrounded by spruce and pine trees. It is a serene and very romantic location. The home has all new furniture and amenities of the highest quality.

The romantic living room has a wood burning fireplace for cozy nights around the fire (you may want to bring extra wood!). There is a dining room with a table that seats 4 and afully equipped kitchen. There is additional seating at the kitchen bar also. You will find everything you need to make your family chef happy.

There is a bedroom with a king size bed on the main floor. It has beautiful mountain decor and furnishings. It is next to the full bath which has a walk-in shower. The decorations throughout the home are exquisite. Everything reflects the cozy romantic atmosphere of a luxury mountain cabin. Upstairs there is a second spacious bedroom which also has a king size bed. It too has new furniture, linens and amenities. You will love the views from the bed. You can look right out of the two story windows and see the beautiful white capped mountains. What a way to wake up!

The property is on a dead end road with very few properties. It is not a busy and crowded location. You will most likely not see anyone during your stay except an occasional visitor such as a moose or fox. There are also deer and bears in the area. If you watch closely you may even see some elk. The front porch runs the length of the front of the house and has comfortable seating where you can sit and enjoy your morning coffee and take in the gorgeous mountain views. There is a gas grill provided behind the home.

The area is know for it's unlimited outdoor activities. Almost anything you can think of is within minutes of the home. You can hike and explore the National Forest right behind the home. There is a road just above the location of the home that you can hike to the end of and be right in the National Forest. Many of the famous 14'ers are located in this area where you can hike or climb. Horseback riding is just a few minutes from the home at the Platte River Ranch. They have hay rides, hour long rides, and even evening steak rides. If you like white-water rafting, the Arkansas River is only a few miles away. You can raft at Buena Vista. They have a variety of trips from safe photo floats to wild rapid trips. ATVing is also great in the area. There are multiple locations where you can ATV. One Trail over Mosquito Pass takes you right into Leadville where you can enjoy lunch or dinner at one of the many restaurants in the restored mining town. This is a fabulous place to shop for antiques too!

About the owners:
As native Coloradans, we love the outdoors, the spectacular seasons, and the diversity of nature.
Our adventurous spirits lead us to purchase our cozy log cabin in 2015. This is a place to get away and unplug from the noise of the city, recharge and be rejuvenated by the awesome surroundings. (It is only a 95 minute drive from southwest Denver on 285. We avoid the crazy I-70 traffic and congestion). Through our front window, we have the spectacular view of Mt. Sherman, which is a 14er. Enjoying a cup of coffee from our welcoming and relaxing porch and watching the sunrise burst above Mt. Sherman is a wonderful way to greet the day.

This beautiful area and our cozy log cabin are just too special not to share. The fellowship of family and friends is what has inspired us to open our home and hearth. The memories that will be made here will last a lifetime. We hope all who stay here feel the welcome embrace of friendship and hospitality.

Why the owners Chose Fairplay:
Mountains; Outdoor Activities Galore; Proximity to Breckenridge; Small Town Friendly Attitude
The small towns of Fairplay and Alma hearken back to the simpler days of living. We enjoy talking to the friendly locals and playing pool at the South Park Saloon.

This little cabin is exactly as described. The kitchen has been updated with an amazing gas stove/ oven. The property is covered in wildlife that are most certainly not afraid to come say hi. The drive to the house isn’t as bad as some reviews state, but it isn’t for the weary either. It’s a bit of a rough dirt road, carved into the mountain with twists and turns. If you’re looking for an adventure, this is definitely the place for you! The owners of the property are, hands down, the nicest people! They handled every question I had with ease and plenty of reassurance. There were no issues or hiccups along the way or while we were there. The scenery… I can’t say enough about it! The Mountain View’s are spectacular, to say the least! While you are here, check out FairPlay and Alma. Both are cute, quaint little towns that are humming with locals and shops all day long. There is literally something for everyone! Oh! And the food… good lord it’s delicious out there! Recommendations: Oxygen! Get yourself some oxygen! We are from Oklahoma and boy did we need it hahaha. I highly recommend seeing the two towns for sure, any and every restaurant you can swing, South Park City (FULL of history), and Montgomery Reservoir- definitely see the waterfalls leading into it!

Really nice place where you can cook meals and relax in a great mountain setting. A couple good hikes to do in the neighborhood and 30-45 minutes from many other hikes and things to do.

Cabin was comfortable and stocked with all the basics we needed. Directions to cabin, how to check in/out were very clear. Enjoyed the view of mountains from front porch. Close to downtown Fairplay with grocery store and restaurants yet far enough away to feel secluded.

We stayed here over the Easter weekend with snow on and off most of the time. We really enjoyed the cabin and the location. We were lucky and got to see Moose several times. During the clear spells the views to the South were awesome but the snow was great as well and made for a great cabin experience. We went out walking a few times and solitude of Winter was so nice. The roads in some areas were washboard cut certainly passable to all kinds of vehicles. The roads were plowed by the county the morning after the snow and the driveway was plowed by a contractor. This cabin was a nice size for our small party. It was clean and had everything we needed. We would absolutely stay here again. If I was going to make any changes, I would consider Starlink over the Hughes net and new carpet in the living area.

Enjoyed our stay very much. Nice and secluded which was exactly what we were looking for. The cabin was very well equipped and lacked for nothing. The host of this property was very attentive and stayed in touch when power went out for a short time which I appreciated very much. Overall, I would highly recommend this cabin.

The property is in a quiet location. Check-in and check-out were a breeze. The owner has done a terrific job of landscaping the property. We spent many hours just sitting on the front porch looking at the mountains. Ok, it was a little chilly, but nothing a fuzzy blanket couldn't fix! We laughed at the very friendly beggar squirrels, who came up very close to us. The property is about 15 minutes from Fairplay, with much of that being a dirt road (washboard). We were glad we drove the truck and not the motorcycle!

Very clean and comfortable cabin. Positioned fairly close to two small towns with all the comforts you would need. Close to a few good hiking trails. Beautiful drives in and out. Quiet area with fair privacy. Comfortable home with 2 king beds. Everything was as comfortable as you could hope for. Wifi was better than expected but don’t expect high speed for remote video meetings or the like. Take the hosts for their word when they say the road in can be a bit nerve wracking. A bit rough for a sedan even in the summer but anything bigger will be perfectly fine. Even the sedan was fine if you’re not bothered by a brief bumpy ride. All in all a nice stay and nice home.

Loved this property. We saw more chipmunks and squirrels than people while staying here. Our only complaint is the road getting there was terrifying. Miles of washboard dirt roads were sketchy, even in our 4 wheel drive truck. Guess that’s part of mountain living.

The cabin and the grounds were all in perfect shape, they were absolutely beautiful. We enjoyed every minute while we were there, hated to leave and we will do it again. Charlie and Jeanette
