Packwood,
Modern luxury with a rustic finish, surrounded by the finest examples of Western Washington's natural beauty: Welcome to the Cowlitz Manor House on the river!
ABOUT COWLITZ MANOR HOUSE
The Cowlitz River flows from glacial snowcap of Mount Rainier, and over the eons has helped create a lush, beautiful river valley that has drawn travelers for generations. Along its banks near its Rainier headwaters sits Cowlitz Manor House, a modern masterpiece of a luxury vacation home.
Built in 2017, no expense was spared to make this home the perfect base for the skiers, hikers, hunters and fishermen that the Rainier wilderness draws year round. You could call this home a cabin but with its expansive interior and views, it certainly deserves to be called a Manor House.
By sharing a waterfront park with its neighbors, the home can boast a firepit, log seats and horseshoes as well as access to the river itself, just across the street from the front door and the two car garage.
In the garage (aka the game room) you'll find a ping pong table, a foosball table, a TV, a card table, and a couple of couches to relax on, one of which folds out to be a sleeper sofa. The doors can be thrown open to create a lovely indoor/outdoor recreation area with easy access to the riverfront. The secondary bedroom is accessed via the garage (aka the game room) and includes an ensuite bathroom.
The home's interior is just as full featured as its exterior: The main room located on the second floor is an open concept kitchen-dining-living room, and spans the length of the property from the large window looking out over the front deck to the river, to the back deck looking up at majestic Butter Butte, an offshoot of Rainier itself. This beautiful room also boasts a sleeper sofa.
Both decks have comfortable chairs and couches from which to enjoy the views and the front one offers both propane grill and firepit.
WHAT GUESTS HAVE TO SAY
"Yes there are many cabins in the Packwood area, but not many as grand as the Cowlitz Manor House" - Debbie M.
MORE ABOUT COWLITZ MANOR HOUSE
Speaking of food, the kitchen is a chef's dream come true. A knotted wood sliding barn door opens up to a walk in pantry (which you can stock on the way in at the grocery store in Packwood), the granite counter tops and gas stove give cooks the space they need to prepare a truly grand spread, and a four stool island/breakfast bar is the perfect place to serve it.
If it's a cold winters night, the cabin of course has heat (and a fireplace surrounded by cozy couches and topped by a large flatscreen TV), but the hot tub below the back deck is the place to go to really get warm and relaxed after a day on the White Pass slopes or hiking the many winding trails of Rainier National Park. And should you happen to be there on one of the 90 degree days that Packwood can experience in the summer, the manor is kept perfectly cooled by a heat pump system, not a common feature in the Pacific Northwest.
Up to two dogs are welcome with our standard per dog, per night fee.

This is a great VRBO located near Mt. Ranier. My only complaint is the time of check-in which is after 5:00 pm. Although this is clearly highland in the listing, it is late for a VRBO or hotel and with limited things to do in Packwood, it can make for a long day. Other than that, it is a great place to relax and the residence is perfectly designed.
Cowlitz Manor House location, design was everything I had hoped and more. The views of the mountains from every large window was breathtaking. Close to skiing, close to Mt. Rainier National Park entrance. Very quiet and relaxing location. Only negative was home did not appear clean before arriving. Did address that with management company. I would absolutely come and stay again but would make sure it get confirmation home has been cleaned prior to arrival.
What a beautiful home and view of the river. This home feels like home. I highly recommend!!!!
Stayed 3 days, great location easy access to the trails and you personal cryo river therapy after a day of hiking. Grocery, pub, and gas station all within a very short distance. We would definitely stay there again.
We loved our stay. The location and accommodations were perfect.
The property was incredible. The bed's very comfortable. The hot tub relaxing and the view fantastic. Such a wonderful welcoming place to relax and unwind. Very clean and the decks fantastic. We will be back!
Beautiful, spacious, and comfortable. We cooked together in the giant kitchen, bed was an awesome sleep, decks were amazing. Couldn't have asked for anything more. Thank you!
Great place to stay for a ski trip. Close to everything and very private.
LOVED this house! HUGE decks, gorgeous kitchen, cozy feel, spotlessly clean and everything thing we needed. RIGHT on the river and the elk viewing was daily and amazing.
Very nice house and meeting area up stairs. If you are a family with littles the second bedroom is in the garage and it is freezing. So cold a towel won’t dry at night. If you ski, there is no place for you to dry your gear. There is no toaster… I mean who doesn’t have a toaster? There is threatening verbiage about sound and eviction all over the place. And boy it even says that if you have any more people to your place other then the people on the list with the property management you can be excited. Very strange. Overall the management of property was very nice. Think twice if you want to check in before 5pm. Also if you are late on checkout a full days rent will be charged. Some advice for people with littles. Pick another house if you aren’t comfortable with your kids sleeping in a room in the garage.
We really enjoyed our stay. The house is very nice, and being able to look right out the front windows at the river was awesome. We would definitely love to come back and visit in the future.
My family of 5 really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cabin by the river. The cabin is beautifully done and located in the midst of Packwoods natural beauty. A real gem. The games and fun area in the garage is such an added bonus for the kids and adults. The cabin is clean and well equipped. The only thing I would change would be to add a toaster for our morning bagels and to have check out instructions. I couldn’t find either and didn’t have luck contacting the property manager.
Truly a spectacular property, beautiful calm area and well appointed. It was lovely for a getaway weekend!
The property is exactly as listed, definitely would read it as a high end property. Everything is kept well and we didn’t have any issues at all.
Refrigerator was not clean and smelled a bit, I cleaned it. Key box did not work and the key was just sitting at the bottom but not seen until mid-week, fortunately key pad on door did work. Garage had bug carcasses and webs not cleaned up (I swept up some). The rest was fine. I don't think there was a full burn ban but we never burned anything outdoors but remnants were in the pit on arrival. Not check in or check lists found. Internet WiFi TV had to be reset frequently.
We were on a 8 day hiking trip to Mt. Rainier and planned to cook all week. Liked the property, but things we noticed that would make it better for future guests: No propane tank and could not BBQ, not enought cooking pans, preferably teflon coated, not enought mixing bowls or kitchen towels. Light out in upstairs bedroom, lamps did not give off enought liight...so hard to read at night. Down stairs catpet really dirty and not vaccumed. We were upstairs so did not matter.
Absolutely beautiful location! We didn't spend a lot of time at the home as we had a packed schedule exploring Rainier but morning coffee on either of the spacious decks was pure heaven. River on one side and mountains on the other. Fire tables on decks were a nice but unfortunately there were no propane tanks. The home was more than adequate and provided a nice space for the teens to play on the game tables and hang out. Purchased a cookie sheet at the local store as the home didn’t have one and we would have liked to have had a toaster but otherwise the kitchen was very well appointed. Look forward to trying to stay at this home again and take advantage of what the location has to offer. There was a horse shoe pit across the street and walking along the river was wonderful.
Loved the location of this rental. Beautiful views. Air conditioning was a plus. Beautiful decor. The covered balcony was our favorite. Hope to return.
Nice property with easy access to trails and Mount Rainier NP. Packwood amenities are also close by. Very pretty house location near Cowlitz river.
What a wonderful stay! We found the house as good as the pictures described. Lovely area just outside of downtown Packwood in a very nice residential neighborhood–great houses next door and a beautiful stream out front with soothing sounds of the whitewater nearby. The first morning, I noticed a herd of deer walking down the road, foraging and then crossing the stream to go into the nearby woods. It is very quiet and peaceful here. The house has all the amenities one would need—plenty of dishes and cookware. We relaxed in the hot tub every night after a long day of hiking. The 2nd bedroom is downstairs, through the garage into a side room off the garage. It is very good for solitude for someone in the party but not ideal if you have young children or youth. The beds are very comfortable and great views from every porch. The only additional item that may be desired would be a hairdryer. The location is ideal as it is within moderate drive to all the major entrances of Mt. Rainier. The closest entrance being Steven’s Canyon, which has some of our favorite hiking trails of the trip. The Paradise entrance is about a 40 minute drive to the entrance, and we really enjoyed eating at the Ukrainian Cuisine restaurant when leaving late that afternoon–what a hidden gem! Be sure to try the homemade Kombucha. And beside that, they have a bakery to bring some breakfast treats home for the next morning. We heard that Wildberry was the best restaurant but it was closed on Tuesday when we went to the park. We tried several places to eat in Packwood and had mixed success. Cruiser’s Pizza was very busy and ours was overcooked and a bit dry. Packwood breweries had excellent beers and prickly pear margaritas. The food was OK–hot dogs and bratwurst with bags of potato chips. The local grocery store has all the amenities one could ask for–very nice. We stopped into The Mountain Goat for coffee and pastries–definitely a good place to visit. All in all, excellent house, highly recommend.
