Government Camp, Oregon
In its post-war heyday, the Barlow Cabin—on the route of the historic Barlow Road in Government Camp—hosted everyone from Scandinavian royalty to the world’s top ski racers. Movie star Rock Hudson stopped in for a drink during the filming of Bend in the River (1952). The cabin was built in 1946 by Timberline Lodge’s first publicist, George Henderson, as a compact, convivial base camp and gathering place for skiers and climbers and, eventually, his own children and grandchildren. Now it's your turn to immerse yourself in Mt Hood history!
This pet friendly, rustic cabin offers Pendleton blankets, down comforters, and a cozy wood-burning fireplace. There is also a smart TV with Hulu and wifi to stream. You can also hook up your iPod / iPhone to the stereo to play your choice of music. The Crosstown Trail, with its links to the Westleg Road and Glade and Alpine ski trails, is a short walk / ski away. Walk to dinner in Government Camp or stay in to cook in the small but well-equipped kitchen. On the walls are photos and memorabilia from the 1930s and ’40s depicting Government Camp’s emergence as a recreation destination. While you are visiting, be sure to page through George’s own Mount Hood memoir; Lonely On The Mountain.
The living room, kitchen, small bathroom with shower, and kids’ bedroom (bunk beds) are downstairs. Upstairs are three small bedrooms and a half-bath. One upstairs bedroom has twin beds, one has a queen bed, and the third bedroom has one queen bed and one twin. Capacity is limited to parties of eight or fewer.
Please note that the Barlow Cabin is not wheelchair accessible.
we loved the Barlow cabin. Unfortunately, our second day there was a power outage from government camp all the way to Sandy, and we had to check out early. Carol and the team were great and very communicative the whole time we hope to come back up as soon as we can make it
An old, but quaint and cozy cabin. Comfortable beds and linens. Clean and nicely kept. Cool old photos on walls to look at. Had a big dump of snow so has happy to have chains to get out of the slightly sloped driveway.

This cabin was very cute, and cozy. You def felt like you were in an old ski cabin. Rooms were very compact.
Lovely, cozy cabin in government camp with every thing we needed. Everyone was very nice and helpful and I’m looking forward to my next stay with them
Great cabin right in the middle of Govy with super close access to Mt. Hood. Highly recommend
Great location and cute little spot! Driveway very narrow and took a second to find since there is no access from the Main Street.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had a wonderful experience at the Barlow Cabin. We went there for a wedding on the mountain at Ski Bowl. It was wonderful and cold. How fun to come back to a cozy house with a fire and charm galore. We would definitely come back again. We love the history of the cabin! It was also well-stocked for cooking meals and very clean. Thank you for a great stay!
We ventured up to the mountain for Spring fest at Ski Bowl and had an epic weekend of weather, comfort, and relaxation. The house was in a great location, gently tucked away in the trees, and an easy walk to trails, local restaurants, shops, etc. A foot of snow dropped overnight so if you’re going during the winter be sure to have 4WD and patience to navigate the elements. We we’re thankful for the warm cozy fire after a long day playing in the snow. The kitchen is makeshift so expect mini fridges with limited counter space. We had four people so we managed just fine and enjoyed the cozy accommodations. Looking forward to coming back in the summer to enjoy the trails.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Barlow Cabin is cozy and quaint. We loved the historic feel. Plenty of space for our group of two couples and two kids. It had everything we needed for a fun ski weekend. A few notes: Lots of bedrooms, but there's just one shower, and if you're planning to cook gourmet meals, you may want to look elsewhere. The kitchen is surprisingly functional for its size, but lacks a fan over the stove (and there's no dishwasher). Also, no dishsoap was provided. Some of the outlets didn't work, along with the ceiling light in one upstairs bedroom (luckily we didn't need to use that room). I wish they had a door code so we didn't have to pick up the key in Welches, as some in our party were coming from Hood River. Overall, though, what it lacks in amenities, it makes up for in charm. We will be back!

We listened to Christmas music, took walks, made a snowman, and enjoyed evening fires while the snow fell.
The property was amazing and it was such an easy process thank you for making one of my family members birthday filled with joy and happiness.
Great little house, the beds upstairs are super comfy and cozy, didn't use the bunks. Kitchen is nothing fancy but totally fine, smart TV works well and there is a coffee grinder. It is up the hill a little from the town center just FYI and the driveway was parking and backing practice for the teenager. 3-4 blocks to the crosstown trail. Had a great time and would totally stay again, great value of a house.
