American Dream Cabin - Gated Community above Watauga Lake with Fabulous 30 Mile Views.
***PERFECT REMOTE GETAWAY TO UNPLUG***
This 3BR, 2BA log home is located in Heartwood subdivision, near Elk Mills, TN. It is located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, and the 5 acre mountaintop property backs up to the Cherokee National Forest. Here you can enjoy a place with long range views of Watauga Lake and the Iron Mountain Range to the north and northeast.
Gorgeous views, cozy fire is available both inside and out and the most peaceful atmosphere one can have!
This 5 acre property backs up to thousands and thousands of acres of Cherokee National Forest. It's in a cabin neighborhood that has direct access to trails and forest service roads. Heartwood is a 330 acre gated community with 42 property owners, 5 full-time residents, 15 completed luxury mountain cabins. Recommend either AWD or 4WD.
This is an isolated mountain location, no public transportation. The last 1.5 mile of road going up the property is gravel road. 4 wheel drive vehicle is recommended to get around if you are not accustomed to driving on mountain roads. If you have a low riding vehicle you will not want to bring it to this mountain location. Heartwood is centrally located approximately 25 miles from Boone, NC and 25 miles from Tri-Cities area of Johnson City/Bristol/Elizabethon, Tennessee. When using GPS enter “Elk Mills, TN”. This will give you best directions.
Nearby you will find a fun winery tour, and an amazing 3000 foot zip line canopy tour with dual 60 MPH ziplines for racing family and friends.
For the safety of guests and property, there are Ring security cameras present outside (doorbell and driveway area).
Spent a few days at this beautiful cabin just relaxing and spending quality time with family. The view is amazing!
Beautiful cabin overlooking the mountains and lake Watauga. The sunrises are spectacular. This cabin is well equipped with everything you would need for a getaway in the mountains. All wheel or 4 wheel drive vehicles recommended. Looking forward to another visit.
I wish I had taken the owner up on step by step instructions getting there, that part was a little tricky and a lot of dirt roads. We had two maps that took us different directions. But the privacy, serenity, and views were absolutely worth the stay. When we arrived the grill was out of propane but I messaged on the app and the owner called me right away. I was shocked I had cell service, but you are so high in elevation it picks up towers. Anyone with special needs should know the upstairs bedroom does not have AC, the AC works for the rest of the cabin. I love the design of having the wood stove high. Such a nice stay with personal touches all over the cabin, I highly recommend.
This cabin was BEAUTIFUL! The views— BREATHTAKING!! The ride up the mountain is no joke. Our Jeep Grand Cherokee made it, the Ford Flex did not. There was no issue leaving it at the gate, though. Todd’s directions to the cabin & instructions for use/checkout were clear and concise. He had a ton of suggestions of things to do around the cabin (brochures and such) We had no issues, but got quick response with questions. Thank you sooo much!!
We LOVE this cabin !! Absolutely breathtaking property. The view is Absolutely stunning !! Communication was amazing like always. We can't wait to come back!! Thank you so much for all the fun memories.
Great cabin, but be prepared for the remote location. It's very remote and takes about 45 minutes to get to the nearest grocery store. I would also recommend bringing your own towels. All used towels must be washed, dried, folded and put away before checking out. The neighbors are incredibly nice and helpful. Overall, we had an amazing time!
Cabin was great! View out over the lake and mountains is amazing (you can’t beat the view), place is clean and comfortable, with comfortable nice couches and outdoor seating. Large dining table as well. kitchen is very well stocked with tools and cooking utensils (which is important as this place is not close to any restaurants, so you will be cooking and eating here). Fire pit is great, there is also a wood burning stove, and plenty of wood stocked. Wi-Fi was a microwave wireless setup (skyrunner) and worked well, we were able to stream video no problem. This place is out there in the woods at the top of a mountain, and you need a awd or 4 wheel drive vehicle to make it up the steep winding dirt road to the property. Very Private location. Our kids loved hiking around the area and we saw a deer while out walking and a bear while driving in from the main road. Ideal place to get away for a long weekend in the mountains and it was perfect for what we were looking for, but just be aware of the location and access limitations prior to booking and plan accordingly. It’s about 45-50 minutes to Boone nc.
We loved our time at Todd’s cabin. The fall colors were wonderful and you can see them for a long way..!! The home was very clean, and Todd was very responsive to the couple questions we had. Definitely will be going back. The only thing that might help, would be to have a couple signs that say..” Todd’s cabin this way..” in a couple spots- we arrived at night, and made it just fine- but were not quite sure at a couple points, which way to turn. So we’re really happy with our stay….!
This was a beautiful place.Todd was in touch, and helpful during our stay.a great place to escape , and enjoy the beauty of the smoky mountains
Great Views, the Cabin/House was tidy, clean, just what we needed! You have a beautiful place! Highly Recommend!!
The cabin is Absolutely Beautiful , and the Scenery from all sides is absolutely Amazing , Todd was readily available and was easily able to contact and answer all our questions .And their not kidding When they recommend that a four wheel drive would be your best bet because the roads leading to property after leaving the paved roads are definetetly steep and very curvy going up to cabin with a couple scary hair pin turns However I have to say that once you get to cabin, it is a spectacular sight and worth it Unfortunately due to health issues that were triggered from having to get pushed up the first gravel road by 3 of our passengers because we were just spinning tires lol as well as the elevation ,we were only able to stay one night out of the 3 that we were suppose to ..it definitely would have been a great Vacacation if not for that , But again the cabin was everything we could have wanted it was fully stocked ,very clean and inviting with an amazing view from all sides , I Just wish we could of stayed for the rest of our stay . maybe we will get lucky and find a cabin that amazing but at the bottom of mountain to stay in next year when we go back to Tennessee.
Beautiful view, quiet and relaxing.
The American Dream Cabin was everything we expected. If you’re looking for a rental with a gorgeous view off the beaten path, this is it. It is close to beautiful Wautaga Lake. I suggest renting a pontoon boat for a day from one of the area marinas. We didn’t get a chance to visit the local wineries, because we had a 14 year-old in the group, but you may want to try that during your stay. It is a little tricky to find your way up the mountain even though Todd provides excellent directions and was a very attentive, responsive host. Be sure to print your directions before leaving home, because chances are you will lose your GPS signal in Elk Mills. If this happens it is very hard to find the turn off for Heartwood. I also suggest driving something with 4WD to get up and down the gravel mountain roads. They are steep with plenty of S-turns. It is also a good 45-minute drive to the closest real grocery store, so pack your food for the week, or plan a day in Boone, NC. If you want to (kind of) get off the grid for a while, this is the rental for you. I say kind of, because there is wi-fi in the cabin that works well.
Our stay here was quite enjoyable. The view from the deck was awesome and the kids had a great time playing twister and some of the other games. The cabin is located in a quiet area that was pretty remote, so it felt like we were the only ones there but that also meant adding a bit more time to the driving to get to different venues. I had a few concerns, but the owner responded quickly to all communication.
