Please visit us at 'A World Apart Rentals'. If you see our property listed on ANY other website (i.e. ends in 'list') be aware of fraud & scams!

“A World Apart” is not your typical bare provisioned rental property locked away in a subdivision overlooking more houses than views. Its location was selected and the home painstakingly built by our family to take advantage of the best of Maggie Valley and Western North Carolina. The care and attention to detail is visible throughout.

NOTE: Our home is located at 4000' elevation in the mountains and is NOT easily accessible by motorcycle. The last 1/4 mile to the cabin is a single lane, gravel/dirt road that does a couple of switchbacks. Four wheel drive is HIGHLY recommended especially in the wintertime, but typically a two wheel drive/front wheel drive vehicle is sufficient. Even though our property has plenty of parking and room for cars, trucks and trailers, arriving by motorcycle will be up to the comfort level of the driver and may not be suitable for every rider.

Nestled on 6 secluded acres of Soco Mountain, our home offers a Romantic Oasis for Couples or the perfect Retreat for Families. Relax on the Wrap-Around Porch and unwind while enjoying the scenery and listening to the persistent harmony of the Creek winding through the valley below. If you’re still and quiet, some of the neighborhood hummingbirds might visit and perhaps even an owl or two will announce the arrival of dusk.

The downstairs of our home features a magnificent Stone Fireplace towering over the living room, Cable HDTV with DVD, broad-plank hardwood floors, sofa & loveseat, slate bathroom with Antique Claw-Foot Tub and walk-in shower. The Queen Bedroom features a large armoire, Cable TV/DVD/VCR, and its own door leading to the hot tub. A fully-equipped and well-stocked kitchen with slate countertops and peninsula bar in addition to the dining table for six offers plenty of seating and amenities for your family gathering. Screen doors and windows allow for Mother Nature's ventilation and the sounds of the wilderness without being visited by it.

Upstairs the loft features a pool table and French Doors that open onto a Covered Porch complete with a hammock. The Tin-Roofed Porch plays an unforgettably soothing melody on drizzly afternoons.

In the Master Suite, unwind in the slate-surround Jacuzzi Tub while gazing out at the mountainside Cable HDTV with DVD invites you to just lounge in the pillow-top King Bed watching a movie. The French Doors from the Master open onto a Large Private Balcony that is the perfect place to enjoy the morning’s first cup of coffee.

For those who still feel the need to keep in touch with the outside world, free wireless internet is provided. Please note that this service is wireless only so you'll have to have a wireless enabled computer to use the free service.

Wrap-around porches complete with rockers, swings, Adirondack chairs, charcoal grill and (our family’s favorite) a secluded hot tub for 6 are really why you vacation in the mountains.

On adventuresome days, you’re a short walk to cascading waterfalls and only a few minutes drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Ghost Town in the Sky, the Cataloochee Ski Resort, Cherokee and Harrah’s Casino. A late afternoon trek to see the Elk in Cataloochee Valley is a must do and in little more than 30 minutes you can be enjoying the Biltmore Estate in Asheville or the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad in Bryson City.

We welcome you to be our guests and find out what makes our home 'A World Apart!' However, don't just take our word for it. Our previous guests comments are the best editorial of what you can expect.

The cabin was beautiful and all the small touches were wonderful. It made you very comfortable. It was a joy staying there. The rooms were spacious and the bathrooms were very clean. Entertainment was very good. It was relaxing. We did not use the hot tub so I can't speak for that. The only cons I have is the water pressure in the kitchen sink was almost non-existent, but it was fine throughout the rest of the house. The grill was very hard to cook on since it was an open type. Getting there was a real trick. Even with the maps and video it was tough the first time. I bottomed out on the gravel road. The next day the main road had been graded and it made it a lot better. However, Hoot Owl Bill Rd wasn't graded and it was very hard to get up the hill. Overall I would still give it a 5. It was great!

We had the best time. The view was gorgeous. The cabin couldn't have been more perfect. The location was perfect- secluded, by itself. The area has so many activities within a short drive. No complaints whatsoever! We can't wait to return!

My spouse and I had a wonderful get away. The cabin is in the mountain literally. It was January and we were there for some snow. The crackling fire, plenty of games, billiard room, hot tub kept us plenty busy. The views, and amenities were top notch. They thought of everything . Just being clothes and food, nothing else is needed. The owners were quick to answer any questions we had during our stay. This is the perfect mountain getaway. We did not come to ski, so we honestly can’t rate that aspect of our stay.

The driveway waslokin difficult and they did mention you need a 4X and the neighbor below was blocking the single lane road so made it hard to get in an out. The water pressure with the kitchen sink was also low.

The drive up the driveway to the property has a lot of holes and is pretty steep and you really need a four-wheel-drive to get up it… really needs a new blanket in the second bedroom for the bed. The coffee maker and the pots and pans need to be updated but other than that we had a great stay

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our week at A World Apart; no matter where we sat outside on the porch or in the hot tub, it was so very peaceful. The beds were so comfortable. We had a basket of goodies waiting for us on the counter when we arrived. There was bodywash, shampoo, and conditioner included in the showers; large, soft bath towels, as well. We enjoyed the visiting hummingbirds and loved watching the chipmunks gather acorns. We were really hoping to see some elk, but sadly, we didn’t. We didn’t have any trouble getting up to the cabin and Google maps took us directly to it. We were in a 4 wheel drive truck. I feel the only thing that would've made this cabin perfect is a beautiful mountain view. The owners were easy to communicate with. Overall, this was a great find and we're so thankful for the opportunity to spend our vacation in Maggie Valley. We absolutely adore this location of NC

Check-in was easy. Kitchen had everything we needed.(however, there was a dip in the floor next to dishwasher. Very uncomfortable feeling when you step on it.)Wi-Fi was was great. Hot tub wasn’t working correctly and had oily residue on it. ( if it was supposed to be cleaned after each stay it wasn’t cleaned very well.) The grill is in the yard (like at a camp ground grill.) We were very happy that We went to the grocery store before we got there. We did not leave the whole time because of the drive up, you would need a four-wheel-drive I would think, not a SUV. Unless you are use to drive on damp gravel. Views are of trees, even though you are nearly on top of the mountain.

Fantastic spot for a weekend getaway. Really peaceful and exactly what we needed to relax and refresh. The cabin is within walking distance of several trails, a waterfall and if you venture to the top of the road, you'll get incredible views of the rollercoaster at (now closed) Ghost Town Village. Would definitely stay here again.

Cute cabin in a great location, if you want privacy and have a car that can make it up the hill. (Road has some wash out, but with a jeep we had no problem). Loved the seclusion but top view is not accessible. It’s truly up in the middle of the forest. We were let down though. because some of the appliances were not working as well as we had hoped. The upstairs jacuzzi bathtub couldn’t be used due to plumbing issues and lack of enough hot water. After trying to use the tub, I found a bunch of water in the first-floor story kitchen that is located beneath the bathroom that I had to wipe off the floor and ceiling. Water pressure needed work too. Dishwasher stopped working after two wash cycles that ran successfully. We messed with the light switch that operates it and also checked the breakers. Had to do most of the dishes by hand. The hot tub only has the capability of running half the jets since there is water damage or something to two of the buttons. It does heat up well and stay hot. The pool table has some expected wear and tear but it was disappointing to not have proper equipment such as a the normal sized ball rack. The highlight of our unexpected minor surprises though, was finding two snake skins that had recently been shedded hanging off the wall above the mantle. Kinda freaky knowing they can get in. Also, lots of mice poop on the table by the hot tub. Overall the cabin was a great home base with an awesome location close to lots of activities and sights.

It's a nice home deep in the woods. Peaceful and private. Be respectful of the driveway as the owner describes. Be prepared to drive carefully its tight and steep but just fine if you take your time. There were a few minor issues but the owner intends to fix them. Great place I'd definitely go back

Some quality checks need to be done. Property is a little run down in terms of things not working as advertised (coffee maker, electric fireplace, 2 of the 4 jets in hot tub) loveseat falling apart, pillows didn’t have properly fitting pillowcases, outdated welcome book inside house. I got the impression owners are not nearby when I asked question before arrival they stated they hadn’t been up there in awhile. The only solution offered when I complained about coffee maker not working was for us to go down mountain and purchase one for them to reimburse us. We woke up our final morning to no electricity or water and it took a couple hours for a response from owners. We made the best of all these issues and enjoyed our time there, but definitely would not rebook this particular property.
