The Orchard House Beautiful sunny house set in an Apple Orchard

I have never given anything but a five star rating to a VRBO before, so I did not take this lightly. The house was absolutely filthy. Three lights did not work which was a shame because the house is dark in general. The rugs were also filthy and we had to dust two bedside tables because they had several dead bugs and were covered in dust. Cobwebs inside the house were bad and we dusted them too. The walk through the uncut grass was narrow and muddy. The gate we had to open and close was difficult to drag through the dirt and the chicken wire kept snagging my trousers. The driveway was dirt and gravel but was still slippery. The porch was very slippery and twice, I almost fell. Dead plants, more bugs, and cobwebs made the entire place look shabby. We live in the country with livestock, etc., and are used to rural life but this was not charming, it was disgusting. The temperature in the house was colder than outside but the hostess stated twice that it was NOT cold! We ended up leaving a day early from a six night booking because we were so uncomfortable. The decor is lovely but if nothing works and the hostess refuses heat, then there really isn’t a choice. We have pictures and a video of all of the problems and the hostess is denying everything. She has been belligerent and defensive and states she always gets five star ratings. That may be true in the past but this booking rated 0. We said we would pursue compensation through the complaint department at VRBO

Peaceful with a beautiful view from the front window. Hosts, Sally and James were on hand if we needed them and they looked after us well. Nearest attractive village was Mayfield which had everything we needed. Plenty of options for trips to countryside, river or coast. We enjoyed a gorgeous, relaxing rest
