This location (45 min from BBNP) allows the enjoyment of a huge assortment of wildlife viewing - migratory birds of all colors, shapes and forms, dove, quail, ravens, red-tail hawks, mule deer, javelina, rabbits, fox, wolves, and even an occasional black bear, bobcat or mountain lion. In addition to the wildlife, visitors have enjoyed marveling at the wide and diverse array of plant and cactus life!

Another bonus is that this location provides miles of primitive walking/hiking/biking/ATV opportunities. Be sure and inquire about special excursions offered by the hosts.

If visitors choose to fly-in, to the nearby landing strip, the hosts will gladly assist with transportation (please inquire ahead-of-time).

A full-size stove/oven, refrigerator, counter-top ice maker, microwave, filtered drinking water, coffee pot, dishes, pots & pans, linens, towels, washer & dryer (bring your own laundry soap) and an outdoor gas grill are all provided. Tabletop heater and a fire pit are also available to ensure the enjoyment of the outdoors, even on cooler evenings. The apartment comes equipped with a sophisticated mini-split heating and air conditioning system as well as a back-up generator for any unexpected power outage.

The apartment, currently, sleeps 4 but can sleep 6 with the use of 2 new, large, heavy-duty cots with thick cot mattresses, upon request. In addition, if additional space is needed for additional guests, the hosts' original property is also available near by - an RV that can accommodate 4 more guests (please inquire).

The hosts live near, but a bit removed, on the acreage, and are readily available for information/advice and/or socialization (previous guests have remarked how much they enjoyed happy hour on the porch with the hosts!) and if any need arises.

The hosts continue to take great pains to insure that our facilities meet and exceed recommended sanitation guidelines.

What a great place to kick back, watch the amazing stars, watch an abundance of wildlife, and an occasional black bear. The owners of this property were absolutely top notch with such hospitality. Mark and Michelle were very helpful and knowledgeable about the Big Bend area. It is a little bit of a drive, but trust me, it is well worth it! If you are wanting to experience a true night sky with zero light pollution, this truly is the spot to visit! You wont be disappointed! Thank you Mark & Michelle!

We originally planned a family trip, but my daughter had to cancel last minute, so it was just my husband and me. It all worked out as a perfect little 26th anniversary trip. We stayed on the property the entire time and enjoyed a late afternoon dip in the hot tub. We had a wonderful time together stargazing and watching all the wildlife. We saw so many birds, javalinas, deer, and even got to see 3Paws the bear. It was a new moon, so we took some amazing photos of the stars. The hosts were wonderful and we'd definitely love to visit again asap.

Casita de Chiles was a perfect home base for our visit to Big Bend. The place was exactly as described and was welcoming, cozy, and comfortable. The views were incredible both day and night. The sunrise over the mountains was a perfect way to start our day. The stargazing in the evening was amazing. We were able to see the Milky Way from right outside the door. We enjoyed our stay here. The barndo was just right for the three of us. We had a place to prepare food and two bathrooms which is very important when you have three women together. The trek to the place was entertaining but we were warned ahead that it was dirt roads so we were not surprised. We loved all the wildlife we seen. We even seen javelinas on the way out! Mark educated us about flora which we very much enjoyed. Michelle and churo were nice as well.

We recently visited Big Bend National Park and stayed here, and honestly, the experience was incredible. From the moment we arrived, the energy of the place felt welcoming and calm—like walking into a real home. The barndominium was extremely well stocked with essentials, thoughtfully set up, and genuinely comfortable. The views were beautiful, and the amenities were amazing—hot tub, grill, and everything you could possibly need right there. It’s about an hour and a half from Big Bend National Park and roughly 45 minutes from Terlingua, which made it a perfect location.Everything was easy and self-explanatory, and it was even decorated for Christmas, which made our stay extra special since we were there with family and little kids. It added such a magical touch to the trip.Overall, it was an amazing experience, and I truly couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay.

Access to Casita de Chiles Barndominium is somewhat challenging with a few miles of dirt road at the end but it's worth it! Mark and Michelle were excellent - they live on the property so were accessible and easy to talk to. It was a good location for accessing Big Bend NP, which was the reason for our visit. My husband, 11 year old daughter, and I had a four day stay and it was awesome! While yes, the road in (Terlingua Ranch Rd) was a bit long and rough, especially due to two miles of it being unpaved, we were fully aware of that and just knew to take our time. The apartment itself was amazing and offered beautiful views of the mountains and terrain during the day and the stars at night. Mark and Michelle were amazing and offered a lot of insight as to things to do and see. We planned our days so we would be either at Big Bend (kayaking the Rio Grande and horseback riding) or exploring the Terlingua Ghost Town and the beautiful views along 170 and then head back to the apartment at night to relax.

Michelle and Marc are very attentive hosts. The apartment was very clean and well kept. I wish we had more time to spend at the property as we were on a short getaway. We will definitely go back and spend more time at the property.

Valentines getaway to explore Big Bend & Terlingua. We were quite comfortable @ the Barndo. Beds are comfortable & appreciated TVs in both bedrooms It’s remote & we appreciated that. Mark & Michelle are very hospitable & have stocked with all items needed, even water, granola bars & crackers out on arrival.

The location was awesome, convenient for us to go to Big Bend NP. We liked the remote location. The hosts were very helpful and nice upon our arrival. Would like to stay here again. The place was very clean and had very nice features for our family. Had everything we needed for cooking our meals too. We had no problems at all with this place. Would recommend to anyone to stay here.

This property was a fantastic deal and was just as nice as advertised. The building is small but clean and cozy. The location can be a bit hard to reach so definitely take a car you don't mind bumping around a bit in though!

We chose a new moon for a return trip to Big Bend so we could get the full dark sky experience. What an amazing sight to see so many stars and the Milky Way each night! We also wanted to see a bit more of BBNP. Our hosts were terrific, communication was excellent, check-in and out was simple, and the place is cozy and well-supplied. Only wish it was a little more convenient to the park but we were warned so that’s nobody’s fault but ours. We enjoyed the surroundings and the Bad Rabbit Cafe. If you don’t mind driving (which you shouldn’t if you’re coming out this far), this is a great place to stay while you’re visiting Terlingua, Big Bend, etc.

This was one of the best equiped, most complete vacation rentals I have ever encountered. It was wonderful! Mark and Michelle were great hosts, always responding quickly and thoroughly to our questions. The casita had plenty of coffee, condiments, paper towels and toilet paper, unlike many others. They also had lots of towels for the hot tub, blankets for cuddling when out in the chilly evening air and plenty of comfortable furniture. This home is off the beaten track, which is exactly what we wanted. We saw all kinds of wildlife, great birds, and lovely desert plants. We did a jeep tour with Far Flung Adventures, recommended by Mark, that was excellent, and visited both the state and national Big Bend parks. It was a terrific four days.

The two bedroom apartment was wonderful, just the right space for three adults and two kids. Kitchen was well equipped. Outdoor areas were fabulous for viewing wildlife - deer, javalina, rabbits, foxes, quail and other birds. We went to Big Bend so the only drawback was over an hour drive to the park. But I don’t know that there is anything this nice that is closer. Would definitely stay there again.

We came to Terlingua for our son’s “destination wedding” & our stay at Casita de Chiles was so great! Yes it’s very remote being located on a big ranch, but defintely well-worth the drive out. Owners Mark & Michelle are very friendly & so accommodating, even immediately replaced a refrigerator that was on the blink!! This barndominium was stocked with everything we needed & more! Lots of wildlife viewing here & the area is SO quiet & peaceful. We enjoyed relaxing around the fire pit in 1 of the 3 outdoor seating areas and experiencing truly awesome dark skies! Thanks Mark & Michelle!

We loved the place and location, it has beautiful views. We got to see a few road runners, a fox and whole family of deer. Mark and Michelle were very nice and had great communication. My kiddos loved to explore outside and get to play with Chula. She is a sweet heart. We hope to make it back sometime soon!!
