IDAHO SPRINGS, Colorado
Imagine waking up and looking out over snow-capped peaks and breathing in fresh, clean mountain air - RedTail Retreat is waiting for you...
After enjoying a cup of morning coffee, your daily options are nearly limitless! It's not uncommon to see wildlife just out your window, or on a stroll through the property. We regularly see chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits, mule deer, elk, moose, mountain lion (rare and usually at night), turkeys, bear, coyotes (they shy away due to our dogs) and LOTS of birds. Typically the only sound you're going to hear is the soundtrack of nature - it's so peaceful...
DIE TO THE NATURE OF WHERE THIS STAY IS, a 4x4 vehicle is required during MOST times of thr year - please double check with host) Depending on the time of year, you can do any of the following:
Fall/Winter - Snowshoeing, Snowmobiling, Cross-Country Skiing, Downhill Skiing (Breckenridge, Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, and Copper Mountain are all approximately one hour drive), hunting (surrounded by hundreds of acres of National Forest land), hiking (St. Mary's Glacier is only 10 minutes up the road), shopping and gambling (Idaho Springs is 10-15 mins, Georgetown is 20-25 mins, Blackhawk and Central City are about 30 mins, Denver 45 mins) Ice Climbing
Spring/Summer - Whitewater Rafting or Fishing (ask about guide services), Hiking, Mountain Biking, Road Biking, Shopping and Gambling (Idaho Springs is 10-15 mins, Georgetown is 20-25 mins, Blackhawk and Central City are about 30 mins, Denver 45 mins), Sightseeing (plenty of scenic drives close by) 4x4 off-roading (hundreds of miles of Forest Service trails)
Red Tail Retreat is perched high atop Redtail Ridge and overlooks Mt Evans and the entire Continental Divide. The views are truly breathtaking. Since we are on our own little "island", there are weather patterns here that are as surprising as they are unpredictable.
The living space is an attached studio loft or "mother-in-law" suite complete with a king size bed and a separate memory foam mattress in the loft area. (NO CHILDREN allowed in loft under any circumstances) The space also includes a kitchenette complete with a microwave, outdoor propane grill, coffee maker, toaster and bar sink/mini fridge. Pets are allowed as long as they are well-behaved - we never charge for pets unless damage occurs. There is a full private bathroom attached to the space as well.
The caretaker/manager lives in the main home but have their own separate entrance and parking areas. Should you have any issues during your stay, they are available 24/7 for assistance. If you choose to bring your pup/s, there is a 1/4 acre fenced-in yard you and your furry family member are welcome to use, providing they are well-behaved. You'll have access to our 5 acres of property (seasonal stream below) as well as thousands of acres of National Forest and hundreds of miles of Forest Service Roads.
Red Tail Retreat is 100% off-grid - we do not have electrical power like standard homes!! This doesn't mean we don't have electric at all, it just means that we rely on solar power to keep our battery bank charged (educational lessons available if you want to learn more about off-grid life and/or solar) What this means is that we live a conservative lifestyle in terms of resource use. The home operates similar to a normal home but with a few caveats. 1. We are very energy conscious - high draw appliances such as hairdryers and curling irons WON"T BE ABLE TO BE USED unless the generator is running - sorry this is part of being off grid and conservation conscious! 2. We are very water conscious. We are on a well and have plenty of clean mountain spring water, but part of living off-grid is that our water is stored in a 150 gallon sterile tank. We manually fill the tank as needed - water pressure and temps are just like a normal home. You won't be responsible for filling the water, but we ask that guests just be conservative with usage. 3. We are 100% solar dependent and have our power through a bank of batteries. If there isn't sun or it's very cloudy, we may have to run the generator during the day but generally limit the generator use to the evening for 2-3 hours max - this is rare and only necessary if we go multiple days without sun Thank you in advance for understanding!
NOTE: THIS ACCOMMODATION IS NOT SAFE FOR CHILDREN. THERE IS A WOOD STOVE AND A LADDER-ONLY ACCESSED LOFT THAT IS NOT SAFE FOR CHILDREN.
We can't wait to share our piece of heaven with you!
Absolutely loved our time at this cozy off-the-grid cabin! The affordability, cleanliness, and inviting atmosphere made it the perfect setting for celebrating a birthday with friends. The owners were incredibly responsive and went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. The extra effort, like providing additional firewood at night for a warm stay and even helping us navigate a snow/wind in the morning by driving my car down, truly set this experience apart. We're already hoping to make plans to return; I highly recommend this space for anyone seeking a nature getaway with loved ones. A fantastic and memorable retreat!
It was an amazing experience, the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of life! The views are spectacular, if you’re looking for a unique good time this is your place. Eric is there if you have any questions or to show how off grid life works and what it takes. Definately going to stay again!
.
We so much enjoyed our stay!! The cabin was so cozy and comfortable. The bed was so comfy and we slept extremely well. We were able to cook on the camping stove for breakfast and also had a microwave. The propane outdoor grill was great for steaks and burgers. Now, the view, ahh the view!!! Was gorgeous and breathtaking! We will definitely stay here again if the opportunity arises. Eric was very helpful and attentive! Thanks for the great getaway! It’s just what we needed!❤️
We only stayed 1 night, but was great! The views were amazing!
Probably one of the most beautiful, peaceful, serene, and clean properties I have ever stayed at! If you are truly looking to get away from it all, I highly recommend this place! The host, and caretaker were very easily accessible, kind, and prompt in communication. I would give this place 10 stars if I could!!!
Hiking trip with my adult son. Property was incredible exactly as described. Hosts were very helpful and we would stay there again
The view was breathtaking and the peaceful nature was perfect for getting away from the stresses of life. The place was peaceful for long nights to cuddle and relax.
I would definitely stay there again!
Father, Son trip was awesome. We were off the grid but the hosts made sure we had what we needed. Very helpful for those who aren't used to mountain life. The local wildlife is amazing. But my favorite was the stars at night. I even saw some shooting stars. Amazing mountain views. We couldn't have asked for more. Thanks a bunch, -Nate & Avie
Redtail retreat was perfect for an extended weekend getaway. Our family of 4 loved the mountains and the natural beauty of the location while still being close to the highway for access to other activities. Being off grid adds to the peace and quiet we wanted.
The owner and caretaker went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable . The owners offered to pick us up at the bottom of the hill since the ride up is off the grid. Our Acadia had no problems at all. We absolutely enjoyed our 6 nights.
Beautiful cabin with very spacious fenced yard. This cabin has everything you need as long as your ready for off grid. Peace and quiet are guaranteed. Still have every luxury of home with sauna as a bonus. The hosts were super nice and very quick to respond with answers or help if needed. The car service was also very reasonably priced. Had a wonderful few days and definitely would return again.
We had a great time relaxing at Redtail Retreat - the cabin space was cozy and had everything we needed for a low key weekend in the mountains. We booked our trip very last minute and Eric was quick in responding back to my questions, getting us booked and accommodating our schedule. We appreciated the fire being ready for us when we got in and the welcome to the space. Our dog loved the area and we loved having access to the fenced in area for him. Thanks again for sharing your retreat!
