Having been to Dartmouth many times we were so pleased with the property, the location was excellent and so comfortable. Definitely stay there again

I just read a review of Bayards Apartment from July last year. I wish I’d read it before I booked. Nothing has changed in ten months. My heart sank on arrival, tatty front door which needs painting, a big weed and rubbish at front step, broken cover on key safe, front door left on the latch. I stepped inside to see a communal hall and stairway which clearly hadn’t been vacuumed. There were also two “gull proof” rubbish bags, the one for our apartment contained smelly unbagged rubbish. Surely these should be outside? Upstairs on the first floor is Bayards Apartment, inside it looked ok, however on closer inspection I found I had to wash enough glasses, plates and cutlery for our needs, as they were a bit grubby. There was no welcome pack, wherever else we’ve stayed had one. We only used the kettle and toaster so I can’t comment on the cooker and washing machine - but why no dishwasher? On the plus side the beds were comfy and the linen spotless. The double bed was small so I decided to sleep in one of the singles, that was comfortable and also had lovely linen. The furniture is a bit outdated, in the style of “Teak G Plan” good quality though. The location is good, on the level, one street back from the river, close to shops, pubs, restaurants and boat trips. I contacted Dart Cottages twice during our three night stay, they said they were working on putting things right.

Very happy with the accommodation. Very clean and presentable. Good location near to lots of cafes and eateries. Communication excellent.

It's a shame I feel this property and our experience needs a mixed review. Overall the flat inside was as stated in the listing and the rooms were all spacious and met what we immediately needed and the location was ideal for exploring Dartmouth. However a few things made the stay much less comfortable/enjoyable than I'd like. When we first entered the front door we were greeted with the smell of someone else's rotting garbage left inside. Contacted Dart Valley cottages who informed us it should be picked up outside. We had to sort out getting this large amount of rubbish outside and unfortunately (possibly due to the heat) the bin smell lingered inside for the entirety of our stay. I've stayed with many other self-catered holiday accommodations and it's fairly normal to expect some kind of welcome pack, with maybe milk coffee/tea to get you started, but nothing was given. Also a lot of the kitchen items we needed to use were left and put back in cupboards dirty or greasy, which was a shame. Also the DVD player didn't work.

Lovely apartment, in good position, minutes walk from the river and Bayards Cove. Plenty of lovely shops and eating places close by too and a lovely 5 minute walk into the town.

Stayed three nights over a weekend. Very convenient for local amenities. Good information provided on finding the place and about the flat. Some of the accommodation was possibly a little dated ( lounge and kitchen, communal areas) but otherwise fine and very clean and tidy. Our only issue was not being able to connect the smart tv to private accounts ( seems to be a Wi-Fi connection issue ). Thanks for having us

We have stayed in the area many times before but never in the heart of Dartmouth itself. This was the perfect location for us this time! Our tweenage children could wander to the shops, and fish from the harbour freely whilst only being 2 mins away from home if they needed us. Parking was a little tricky on arrival but only because the Food Festival was in full swing by Monday we never failed to find a spot. We used the ferry’s and local transport to travel around the area meaning we didn’t use the car very much at all. The accommodation was clean and well presented and perfect for the four of us and our small dog. Despite being in the heart of things it wasn’t too noisy and it was the ideal spot for people watching. We will definitely return.

We stayed in this property in 2019 and it was a very comfortable stay. There’s a strong smell of engine oil when you come into the door from the street but that doesn’t carry into the apartment. The master bedroom is on the back and is not affected by street noise. The problem this time was the noise as early as 5.45 in the morning. There was a flooding of bright light into the bedroom window on Sunday morning and a noise like a giant vacuum cleaner which went on for about 30 minutes. Subsequent mornings it was someone beneath us moving things about and slamming doors from about 6am. If you are an early riser, unlike us, this apartment is a gem.
