Aloha! The Ohana Hale at Kahua Ranch is located in the Kohala Mountains on the stunning, privately owned, 4000 acre Kahua Ranch. We are a working ranch with sheep, cattle and horses and one adorable pig. Breathe in some of the world's freshest, crisp, clean air that travels 2500 miles across the ocean and is filtered down through our lush rain forest.

Conveniently located between the beautiful ranching town of Waimea (Kamuela) and historic Hawi town with it's dining, gift shops, artgalleries, and coffee house; the views from the Ranch grounds are unparalleled!

Perfect for vacation/family getaways, or just local holo holo ( go on adventures); the Hale has 2 bedrooms, a queen master suite with it's own flat screen TV and a second surf themed bedroom with a pilowtop full size bed, both have spacious closets. A pillowtop punee' (twin size) located in the living room sleeps a fifth person if needed. The Hale has one full bathroom, a completely stocked kitchen which includes a jumbo microwave, countertop oven, full stove, dishwasher and refrigerator. Soft, organic cotton sheets, plush bedding and ample towels are provided. Amazon Fire TV, on the flat screen and blazing fast Internet is provided. There are dedicated laundry facilities (washer and dryer) within the Ohana with detergent.
A new sun deck with a new BBQ grill fronts the Hale under the pines with PASTURE AND MOUNTAIN VIEWS.

The Ohana Hale is new carriage house construction with all the modern conveniences, located just adjacent to the Ranch Retreat at Kahua.
This Ohana was built for friends and family and there are no full ocean views from within the house or the price would reflect this! Guests are able to stroll on property to unparalleled views steps away for stargazing and inspiration. We have been able to keep our prices affordable for return and long term guests year after year :)

The best of the Big Island’s beaches (Hapuna, Mauna Kea) are a short 20-30 (depending on traffic) minutes drive South- and a cooler, chairs boogie boards and large beach towels are also provided for fun in the sun. Snorkling, diving and swimming in Hawaii’s crystal clear waters are a short drive to the Kohala Coast as well as other water activities are available at Kawaihae Harbor (20 min drive).
If hiking and strolling is your preference, the black sand beach at Pololu Valley is 30 minutes away, through the town of Hawi as well as many other neighboring trails.

A beautiful stay. So peaceful and picturesque. Accommodations were perfect for us and the purpose of our visit. I would stay there again in the future and hope that it could be for a longer stay. Very clean, roomy, and great amenities. Terri is very easy to communicate with. Wonderful experience.

Perfect spot to explore the north west coast of the Big Island. Beautiful, expansive farmland/ pastures overlooking the Kohala coastline. Unfortunately the weather was uncooperative during our short stay but we enjoyed the very clean and accommodating house. Terri was very responsive and helpful with suggestions on the surrounding area. Comfortable beds and everything you need for preparing meals, etc. The complimentary coffee was much appreciated! We wish we could have stayed longer. Mahalo for sharing this house with us! :-)

Wonderful spot surrounded by lush rolling hills of horses and cattle grazing and looking at you curiously as you go by. There’s a slice of water view from the kitchen but you really have to walk the grounds to get the best views. Gorgeous sunsets in clear weather, misty storybook pastures when overcast. It was nice to be up in the highlands, quieter and cooler than Waikoloa and Kona, making sleep much more peaceful. Easy distance to Waimea for shops and restaurants. Host Terri was welcoming and helpful. The hale was well equipped, the living room was comfortable for lounging. Going horseback riding on the grounds is a must to fully appreciate the ranch. Looking forward to staying here again in future.

Our seven days here were perfect. People who may not give this place five stars must not have read the description or reviews. For the first time on the Big Island, we were able to sleep comfortably and even with a cover; it is cool and calm. Yes, there is basically no view from the home but just walk 200 feet and it is exceptional. Yes, there are cows and sheep and UTVs at time, and early, but you are on a ranch, in Hawaii, in paniolo country. You want bars and loud haoles and expensive dinners? Go to an overpriced resort. The closeness to Waimea, Hawi, and some great beaches really is a selling point. Most of all, the owners are kind and knowledgeable true locals, not greedy investors wanting a return at all costs. They actually want you to be happy on their ranch.

Such a beautiful property and location! This spot really captures the beauty of the Kohala coast. It is a more rural region away from the big resorts. With that comes the sounds of farm life and a more tranquil environment. Yet, access to beautiful beaches and hikes were not too far away. Thank you so much Terri and Tim!

This is not a resort, thank goodness. It is a working Ranch. The Animals are real, and great you as you come and go. It was Heaven. Everything you need, including beach supplies. No need to visit Costco. Foodland is 15min away. We have been coming to Islands for over 20yrs, and this is the 3rd time to Big Island, our favourite. This will be the only place we stay for all future trips. 15min to great coffee, Surf Camp. 20min to Best beach, Hapuna.

We stayed for a few nights during a visit with family nearby. The house was clean and had everything we needed for our brief stay. It’s surrounded by trees that blow in the wind at night and provided amazing white noise for sleep. For those unfamiliar with the area, the elevation (3,000ft) means it’s cooler and wetter than below that level, which was perfect for us.

If your after a resort experience look elsewhere. If your after more authentic Hawaii then this place will work. If you own a tractor, pickup and know why some shovels are square, the this is the really right spot. Nearest resteraunt is 10 miles away same with a store. Room service might be a while getting to you. Clean, heck of a view and completely adequate. Updated to 1990-2000 maybe newer. Everything works Terri and Tim are wonderful hosts.

We happened to hit the weather perfectly the one night we stayed at the ranch. Clear blue skies and green fields, the view is unbeatable. When we pulled into the ranch and drove up the hill we were greeted with roaming horses and a few cows, they actually blocked the road so we had to wait for them to move, we loved it! We found out Ohana house and it was just as described. We unpacked and then took a walk around the ranch. We met Terri and learned more about the ranch's rich history. After the sunset, we took some lawn chairs and walked up the road to Terri's lawn and watched the stars. I have never seen so many bright stars and some shooting stars. Throughout the stay we have the best sleep, the freshest air, the most wholesome sounds to keep us company. The house had everything we could have wanted warm showered, cooking supplies to meet family dinners every night, 30 min door to beach in some of the best water access for our family to swim with turtles and in amazing tide pools. 100% recommendation. Brilliant hosts.
