Oceanfront Studio with views of the Pacific Ocean S

Loved having a large room with a kitchen and a balcony overlooking the ocean. Our host was very pleasant and helpful.

Beautiful views of the sunrise (yes, sunrise) over the Pacific. Efficient kitchen had everything we needed for a simple stay. Fireplace was lovely. Rugged beach. We had a wonderful time.

The host Miren is the best! Very likable and polite. I hope to be back soon and stay even longer someday! The stairs down to the beach are amazing.

The Swan suite was the ideal little refuge for my husband and I. Everything felt quaintly charming yet spotless and we particularly enjoyed breakfast with an ocean view on our own balcony, sipping local wines by the fire place (it took a minute to figure out proper ventilation, but worked well enough to spread a romantic mood), taking a bath in our own jacuzzi with the rain drumming on the glass roof, and even making smaller meals in the fully equipped kitchen. Miren gave us the warmest and most personal welcome imaginable, told us some stories about the area, the place, the people, made sure we had everything we needed (including a corkscrew which she happily provided), and gave us a full tour of the property and community room (the view from which is the property cover picture). There is a little convenience store within a 2 minute drive in Anchor Bay which was well stocked, but for proper grocery shopping and more dining options we drove to Gualala as well as Point Arena. The property's direct beach access had been interrupted due to a storm earlier this year, but there are plenty of other small coves you can drive to in no time, as well as access to the same beach via the adjacent camping grounds.

Merin is a wonderful host. I especially enjoyed her showing me the grounds and the historic stories belonging to this unique inn. It's truly an enchanting place to stay.

Miren and the whale watch are a vibe what can I say. Miren is super sweet and truly wants the best for you during your stay. You can see that there has been a few hard years for the whale watch but she is striving to make it better.

Lovely room!

We had a nice stay overall and really enjoyed the beautiful ocean view. The studio was comfortable and had everything needed for a pleasant stay.Due to weather conditions from the previous week, the private beach access was unavailable as the stairs had collapsed. This was understandable, though a bit disappointing since private access to the beach was one of the main reasons for choosing this location. The area also has very limited cell phone reception, which made check-in slightly challenging, but with the help of another guest we were able to connect to WiFi and get in touch with the owner and maintenance.After leaving, I realized I had forgotten a sweater in the unit and reached out to the owner offering to cover shipping costs, but unfortunately did not receive a response.Overall, it’s a comfortable place with a lovely view.

A quiet, lovely escape! Miren is a wonderful host and it was a pleasure to meet Sophie (the dog). The place is full of character - meaning yes, it's a bit quirky and possibly outdated with lots of work to be done, however it was a quiet, comfortable stay with all the accommodations and necessary comforts. We stayed in the Swan room partially because of the bathtub. The bathtub is a glorious vintage (really) jacuzzi soaking tub underneath a large windowed area. The water ran hot, the jets worked fine, but the grout has been stained and could be replaced in some spots, but it wasn't dirty.We spent an evening in the Whale Watch community room, playing board games and listening to music. We travelled in the low season so no one was there to do the same, but it was a great central hang place.The private access beach was a true gem. The stairs are perilous, but worth the risk to have your own little cove to relax in.This place would be great for a small group gathering for several days. Plenty of different rooms with different accommodations and the community room is under utilized, but would be great for groups. All in all, it's a gem of a stay, but it's not a 5* resort. If you can handle age, love vintage (especially great furnishings!), enjoy quiet (though there is road noise being ON Hwy 1) this inn is a perfect stay!

For the money, this is a great place to stay on the north coast. You are just a staircase away from a beautiful beach. We were in the Swan studio suite: great view from the balcony, well-equipped, and clean. Miren was a very friendly, attentive host, with great communication. The whole inn has bit of a faded glory feel to it: furniture and decor are dated, and the mattress wasn't great. But again, for a place right on the beach in this area, this was a great place and a great price. We'd happily stay again.

We had a wonderful stay! The room had everything we could have hoped for, and the view was absolutely amazing. Miren was a fantastic host; knowledgeable about the area and full of great recommendations. We would definitely come back!

This is an older property and quite rundown. 4 stars for cleanliness in the room which has a definite vintage vibe. 1 star on the grounds which have not been maintained… at all. If you want to unplug (no tv, but good wi-fi) and plan to explore off sight this is a good fit for the price.

My sister and I had a couple of days of much-needed rest and relaxation at the Whale Watch Inn. Everything inside our studio room was beautifully clean and in good repair. Outdoors, the property is not formally landscaped and groomed, which produces a friendly, casual atmosphere. The ocean view is delightful! I would definitely return.

The property was as described and is in a quiet location overlooking the ocean. The grounds are very nice. Miren was very helpful and helped us with getting an extension cord so we could charge our EV.

We had a wonderful relaxing weekend at Whale Watch Inn. We stayed in the Swan Room. Quiet, secluded studio with private balcony. Wonderful, jetted tub!!! Just what we needed to unwind from a busy lifestyle. Thanks Miren!!!

It was wonderful to stay in this studio with a view of the ocean, a fireplace, and very welcoming host! It's a very short drive from the town of Gualala which has groceries, a couple good restaurants, and cute shops! The kitchen is equipped with the basics and the tub is spacious :)

Great to have a kitchen, comfy bed, plenty of space with a lovely view of the ocean and direct access to a small beach walking down the steps on the cliff.

Great stay

The Swan Suite at Whale Watch Inn is in such a perfect spot on the coast. It gives you enough room if you want to travel up and explore Mendocino/Ft. Bragg or stay in the area and enjoy all Gualala/Anchor Bay have to offer. Miren is very sweet and welcoming. She gave us a tour of the property (even though it was cold and dark), helped us bring our bags in, and showed us how to get the fireplace going (neither of us were boy/girl scouts haha).The suite itself is very clean, the kitchen had everything as far as cooking supplies go, and the jacuzzi bathtub made the colder evenings much nicer. Our favorite part was being able to sit out on the balcony with tea/wine and enjoy the fresh air and ocean views. If you do feel like getting out of your room, we def recommend stopping by the Whale Watch Room or heading towards the beach at least once during your stay to see some incredible views. Overall, we had a lovely time and hope to continue staying here when we visit this stretch of the coast :)

The view from the swan room was beautiful. The in-room hot tub and fireplace were amazing amenities that we utilized a lot during our stay. Miren was an amazing host! She made sure we had fresh firewood every day and was very responsive. Whale Watch Inn is truly a gem along the coast!

This is our second visit to the Swan Studio and both experiences were refreshing. Time there fed our mind, body, and souls. The Swan Studio not only delivered what it’s description promised, but Miren checked in with us daily to ensure our stay met and exceeded expectations. We are already planning our next visit….

As I write this I'm sitting on my private balcony with the sun on my face, watching the ocean and listening to waves breaking ... one of the most relaxing stays ever! The weather has been outstanding just like our views and time here. Miren has lived up to all the nice comments about her. She most definitely has the gift of hospitality, something not often found but delightful when you do find it. You can tell she sincerely wants her guests to have the best time possible! Our room (the Swan) is clean and yet homey and tthe enjoyment of a real fireplace with wood delivered daily was icing on the cake. We loved it here and would love to have a repeat visit. I was greeted by the Lovely hostess, and she helped me carry everything up to my room. She gave me a tour of the property and showed me all the amenities. I love my room. It was so beautifully appointed, super clean and just all around such a lovely place. I was sad to have to leave. Really enjoyed my time spent there.

Miren was a wonderful host and took care of everything! The place is like a dream, right next to the ocean with a private jacuzzi in the room. The room itself is beautiful with high ceilings, fireplace and a balcony with amazing views. We hope to come back soon!

The host was SUPER communicative, we loved the beach access (they communicated the slight difficulty of stairs) and finding the hundreds of hermit crabs in the tide pools below. Cozy getaway, perfect for a quiet weekend exploring the coastline.

Bed was very comfy, kitchen was well supplied. Host brings fresh wood for fires in the fireplace daily. We loved sitting on our balcony looking at the bay. Also views from community room and other seating areas on the property. We made trips to several nearby beaches. Host was full of local knowledge and tips. We will definitely be back!
