Graciously appointed Ocean Temple offers inspiring Pacific Ocean views, sunrises, sunsets, and lava fields spanning for miles across state land, to give you a wonderfully peaceful Hawaii experience that will leave you relaxed and rejuvenated.

Ocean Temple is truly a unique and special place to land in Hawaii! The wild and dramatic setting, beautiful architecture, and luxuriously well-appointed amenities will offer a wonderful vacation setting for you.

A private black sand beach is located a few hundred yards away... a perfect place to enjoy the year round sunrises and sunsets, watch the humpback whales breaching during the winter months, and its a perfect outdoor yoga setting.

This property was once a Buddhist's Retreat Center, and the original home served as lodging for the visiting Rinpoche. We strive to carry on the sacred sanctuary vibe here, and we expect our guests to do the same.

Ocean Temple is 1,100 sq ft, and enjoys an open floor plan (only the bathroom is enclosed). A pair of 12' wide and 10' wide sliding glass doors look out to the ocean and backyard gardens during the day and the star and planet studded night sky at night. From the covered lanai, your day time views are blessed with the blue ocean, organic gardens and coconut trees.

A king size bed with a memory foam mattresses pad, 100% cotton bedding, thick bath towels, gorgeous Mahogany wood trim accents, solid mahogany doors, and expansive picture windows looking out to the natural setting surrounding the property.

You will enjoy listening to the sounds of the ocean day and night! Plus a night sky that is so full of stars and the milk way galaxy.

Ocean Temple is located on the main floor of a 2-story house and is fully contained with its own entrance and amenities. Bali Temple, VRBO #285160, is located on the top floor of the house and is fully contained with its own entrance. Cottage at the Ocean, VRBO# 654541 is located in the separate cottage next door. There is a laundry room off of the house with its own entrance that all guests have access to. Contact me to learn about special rates when renting more than one of these properties at the same time.

All units are ideal for 2 people. Guests come to retreat from the hustle and bustle of their worlds, to deeply relax, recharge, and renew themselves amidst the beautiful natural setting that surrounds us. All guests are asked to maintain this sanctuary environment when on the property.

There are many spectacular local attractions sites to visit during your stay: visit Kehena Beach just down the road, a gorgeous black sand beach where you may be lucky to swim and snorkel with wild spinner dolphins in the morning hours (clothing at Kehena is optional!). Enjoy an oceanside hike at McKenzie state park. Cruise the whole enchanting Red Road, and take in the sights of wild and lush jungle, lava fields, and ocean cliffs for picnics and whale watching. Check out the numerous Volcano Touring activities such as: Volcano National Park, Lava Tree State Park, Lava Hikes, and the Geothermal Heated Hot Ponds.

Experience an abundance of food shopping for the true tastes of Hawaii: Our local farm to table Farmers Markets offer you abundant selections of fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, flowers, and unique gift items at either Maku'u Market in Pahoa (Sunday morning), or Uncle Robert's Wednesday Night Music and Saturday morning market, located next to the Kaimu Korner Store (all of your basic needs can be found here, open 7am to 9 pm), located just ½ mile away from Ocean Temple!

In addition to the markets, acquaint yourself with the Island flora with a tour at the Botanical Gardens, sightsee and explore numerous waterfalls, Whale Watch from the lanai, indulge yourself with many dining options in Pahoa and dance it all off at Ecstatic Dance on Sunday mornings at Kalani, and then join the Drum Circle on Sunday afternoons at Kehena Beach. There are numerous Yoga Classes, Pilates Classes, and massage therapists ready to treat you!

Dining options from Ocean Temple are numerous: We have an authentic Ava Bar down at Uncle Robert's, serving up the local and relaxing Kava beverage, with other various food options next door at Uncle's Marketplace. Kalani Honua is 4 miles down the Red Road for grab and go. 8 miles up the road is Pahoa Town, with numerous options in
Thai, Sushi, Mexican, Kaleo’s Bar and Grill, coffee shops, etc. Hilo is 27 miles for many more choices.

When my visitors depart Ocean Temple, they feel refreshed, invigorated, and much more vibrant then when they arrived. The air along our coastline has been measured to be the cleanest in the United States! The lush greenery and scenic coastline areas are inspiring.

I look forward to your visit at Ocean Temple…see you soon!

Amazing location along the Red Road. We spent time every day on the lava rocks by the ocean. No way to go into the surging ocean along this coast line, we had to go to other parts of the island for beaching. We enjoyed the culture here, Uncle Robert's, the Star of the Sea Painted Church, whales moving through MacKenzie Park etc. It's definitely a quieter part of the island, and we did have to drive greater distances to get to Volcano Land and Kona etc. But if you're looking for the local flavor of Hawaii this could be your place. We loved the Ocean Temple although after a few days we were looking for more comfortable seating, something I'm usually more aware of when booking, but this place looked too good to pass up. We also thought we would rent bikes while there, but we couldn't find a local place to do that, disappointing because it's great biking terrain/vistas. Cooking was a bit campish, but doable. We did cook frequently as local restaurant choices didn't fully draw us in.

My husband and I stayed at Rachaelle's oceanfront home for 4 nights and it was lovely! It was one of the most unique locations we've ever stayed at. The view of the ocean and lava rock landscape right off the deck was so beautiful and we were able to watch the sunrise just about every morning. I read reviews about people falling asleep to the sounds of the ocean but what stuck out the most for us was the symphony of coqui frogs every night. The place itself was spacious and incredibly comfortable. We were even able to enjoy the weekly night market at the local farmers market down the street from us. One thing to note for people wanting to do activities in Hilo area, it was about a 40-45 minute drive to the downtown area. But the uniqueness of this location was definitely worth it for us!

We really enjoyed our time here. The place was very clean, quiet, and exactly what we were looking for. It’s in a secluded area of the island and absolutely perfect if you’re looking for a quiet place to relax and enjoy the beautiful nature of Hawaii. Everything was well taken care of, and the host was easy to work with and very accommodating, which made the whole experience smooth. We’d definitely stay here again.

Our host was absolutely amazing, lots of information about what we could do while there, the ocean lullaby and views were breathtaking and beautiful. Any stress I felt before I arrived melted away. I wish I could express how incredibly satisfied my stay was. Mahala!

The location is amazing. Right on the lava flow. The private black sand beach is awesome, but don’t expect to go swimming there as the surf is rough smashing against rock. I would highly recommend staying here. A couple things that could be improved by the host would be to 1) get a new grill; the one there is so rusted and falling apart that it is a borderline hazard 2) replace the shower head; the one in the shower constantly falls off 3) update the description so anyone renting knows that the kitchen does not have an oven or a dishwasher.

The Bali Temple was an absolute dream to stay in! We loved how it was so far away from the bigger cities and how quiet and relaxing it was. We walked the lava run every day to see the ocean- it is exactly as advertised! The host was lovely and responsive. The only thing I wish we’d known ahead of time is that there is no stove or oven but there is a hot plate! Prepare your meals accordingly! Otherwise it was absolutely perfect and we had the best time.

My stay at Ocean Temple in Pahoa, Hawaii, was pure bliss. This oceanfront retreat, backed by 500 acres of state land, is a sanctuary of serene quietness. The soothing sound of the Pacific Ocean and the absence of urban noise created a deeply peaceful escape. At night, the star-filled sky, with the Milky Way in full view, was breathtaking. The 1,100 sq ft open-plan space, once a Buddhist Retreat Center, exudes tranquility. Expansive sliding glass doors frame ocean and garden views, while mahogany accents, a king-size bed with cotton bedding, and plush towels add luxury. The lanai was perfect for sunrise coffee or whale-watching (in winter). A nearby black sand beach offered a serene spot for yoga or reflection.Privacy is ensured with a private entrance, and the shared laundry room is a plus. Nearby Kehena Beach, Volcano National Park, and local farmers’ markets added adventure, but the property’s calm drew me back. Dining options in Pahoa and Uncle Robert’s marketplace delighted with fresh flavors. The cleanest air in the U.S. and vibrant surroundings left me rejuvenated. Ocean Temple’s sacred vibe and serene quietness made it unforgettable. I left feeling refreshed and can’t wait to return.

Great stay and enjoyed every aspect of the home itself. Lava flows were cool to explore but took away from the traditional ‘beach experience’. That’s the only concern we had… driving to actual sand beaches. Again, minor detail for our group but a family with younger kids might have had issues. Would stay here again for sure.

The space was organic and lovely for my partner and I. The night skies were so beautiful due to the lack of light pollution and the property had access to the ocean across an interesting lava flow. Definitely a unique and wonderful location. People in the community were very friendly as well. Would recommend this location for adults wishing a romantic, peaceful, beautiful environment.

This is a beautiful studio apartment. My wife and I stayed here for a week. Since we were primarily there to relax, this turned out well for us. For those couples with difference in bedtime or awakening time, there is no place inside to do anything while your partner is sleeping. If you are planning on doing touristy things, the location is somewhat out of the way. It's at least 30 minutes into Hilo, unless you hit a bad traffic time, then it will be more. It's a minimum of 2.5 hours over to the Kona side. The public land referred to in the description is a young lava flow, quite beautiful in its own way, but spilling directly into the ocean in low cliffs. There are no real beaches near by, and this section of the coast is not safe for swimming. We found some good trails for birding east of the summit on Saddle Rd (hwy 200) but the trail heads were more than an hour from our unit. The other limitation we encountered may be temporary. It appeared that some kitchen remodeling was underway. We didn't have a range. Instead, there was a portable 2 burner induction cooktop. Only one of the two frying pans available worked with the induction system.

Nice area to explore and quick drive to all sorts of things to see and do! The home is well appointed, the bed super comfortable, and the ocean breezes, the sound of the waves and the coconut tree reeds blowing in the wind lulled us to sleep each night! If you are looking for sandy beach and walking to shops, this is not the place to stay. But if you are looking for peace and quiet in a uniquely naturally beautiful location this place is fantastic!
