This private holiday home is situated at Le Morne Village in the southern part of Mauritius island, with direct access to the beach just across from the cottage. The house consists of two separate apartments on two floors. The apartment is designed to accommodate four persons.

You find turquoise water and white sand beaches on the lagoon just across the quiet beach road from the house, or 10 minutes away by foot at “la Prairie” Beach. In addition, a huge range of leisure activities is available at Le Morne.
You have direct access to the world famous wind - and kite surfing spot at Le Morne lagoon. Depending on the wind direction, you can start a days surfing right in front of your holiday cottage.

Surfing: The best travel time for surfing on the island is from May to October, this is winter on Mauritius (22-25 degrees) and you have reliable winds. Midsummer is from December to February, great beach weather with approximately 30 degrees, but changing wind conditions!

You find anything that makes the heart of a surfer beat faster: flat water, and a shallow area, just in front of the house and not crowded. After a downwind trip of 10 minutes you can find waves for beginners (little reef), waves for advanced surfers (manawa) and expert waves (one eye). Depending on the wind direction surfing and kite surfing is possible right from your doorstep.

You have 3 possibilities to access the Le Morne lagoon-

- in front of the house
- 1000m windward from “La Prairie” beach
- or from the most popular surf spot on the island, on the opposite side of the lagoon next to the Indian Resort and Mornea Hotel

Infrastructur: The Bus stop is just 20m away from the cottage, the bus network is very good and cheap on the Island. You find bus connections to the cities, interurban connections or along the coast. We recommend having a rental car but it is not absolutely necessary.

The water in the house is heated only by a solar system only. In the evening you should not shower too long, at some point the buffer is empty and is not reheated without sun. During the day and when the sun is shining you can shower as long as you want.

Mauritius is a tropical island and the heat means that windows and doors are usually open. Therefore, even with intensive cleaning, it is not possible to get rid of all insects. Do not leave food open, close the package after use or put the food in the refrigerator. There they are safe from ants and other insects.

This charming house is located in Le Morne Village, an authentic part of Mauritius. The people here live in simple yet happy and contented conditions – far from the hustle and bustle of tourist hotspots.

To European eyes, the village may initially seem chaotic or untidy, but those who take the time to engage with the locals and the culture will discover the true beauty of this place. The real splendor lies not in the facades, but in the heart of the community – in the friendly, warm-hearted people who call this village home.

When traveling to Africa, it's important to understand that life here is different from the Western industrialized world. The people here live with far less money, and as a result, their living conditions are simpler. However, despite these differences, the people live in peace and contentment. Their way of life is based on community, gratitude, and a deep appreciation for the essentials.

In this environment, you’ll discover the true meaning of happiness and togetherness. While daily life may seem unfamiliar to European eyes, it’s filled with a positive, life-affirming energy that you’ll feel from the moment you arrive.

If you’re open to experiencing authentic life – the small things that are often overlooked – you will be inspired by the warmth of the people and their ability to lead fulfilling lives despite having fewer material possessions.

People here live simply, but they have what often gets lost elsewhere: time for each other, warmth, and openness. Guests who are curious and respectful are welcomed with open arms – maybe with a drink by the sea or the rhythm of drums and dancing under the stars.

If you're searching for authenticity and want to experience life in its most honest and unfiltered form, this is the right place for you.

This house is not a retreat for those seeking luxury or silence – it's a home for travelers with open hearts. For people who value diversity, let go of expectations, and want to truly feel the spirit of local life – not just observe it.

If you want to wake up smiling – with the sounds of a vibrant village and a view of the sea – you’re going to love it here.

The cottage was everything we expected. It was stocked with all the utensils we needed for a 7 day stay and being situated in the heart of Le Morne village we could buy food & drink from the local shops and food stalls. Everyone was courteous & helpful with a very lively and entertaining village life surrounding us. My husband thought he could kite to Le Morne kite beach from there but the wind wasn’t in the right direction. We walked to Chill Point, then waded 150m through the lagoon waters to a dirt road with another 1.5km walk to the kite beach. Easy going especially at low tide & great exercise for the day. Hosts were easy to communicate with & helpful with bus trip suggestions. We definitely recommend this property for an authentic Mauritian holiday.

The standard of the actual property was ok. It should be noted that the image is of a whole house but it is divided into two properties. What cannot be seen is the 5foot wall separating the garden from the very busy road. The garden is in fact for parking the cars. Immediately next door is the village beer outlet. There was a lot of loud people noise during the day and evening. Together with the 20 to 30 stray dogs roaming the village almost every house seemed to have their own dog kept outside and together they managed to bark off and on all night.

Francois, who looks after the property, was very helpful and even lends you a local mobile phone sim. The property is equipped to a very high standard, is only 10 minutes drive from one of the best beaches we've found so far on Mauritius, is handy for getting into the national park for walking, not 10 minutes drive away there is a wonderful supermarket and fresh fruit and vegetable roadside stalls. I would highly recommend this place....at the price it's a bargain!!! .....the house is on a busy road and surrounded by locals houses which didn't bother us at all....we rather enjoyed watching all the local activity pass by!

Just as described. The cottage is very nice and well equipped. Air conditioning works but is additional. Village can be quite lively on weekends but not too late in the evening.

We just returned from a very nice holiday in Le Morne! We stayed in the cottage for 1 month with 2 adults and a son (1 years old). We really liked the house, it's very complete with a good kitchen/bathroom/veranda and airconditioning in both bedrooms. The house is built between the local people and we like that very much, only sometimes at night you hear the dogs barking at the street. Next to the house there's a little restaurant/shop where you can order diner (like curry chicken/noodles/rice) and bread for in the morning, very cheap. Only 10 min by car there’s a big supermarket in La Gaulette where you can buy almost everything, there are also some nice restaurants! In front of the house there is a beach but not really nice to lay on, but when you drive 5/10 minutes to the left of right there are enough beautiful beaches. Nearby Le Morne there are a lot of nice things to see, like Chamarel, Rochesterfalls and La Vanilla Zoo. We really like the island as well and the people are really nice. For kitesurfers it’s also a great place, the kitebeaches are nearby and you can start in front of the house. When we return tot Mauritius, we will stay in this cottage again!
