Spacious, carefully restored house inside medieval walls, two terraces. Part of an old palazzo, vaulted brick ceilings on ground floor, frescoed vaults on piano nobile, handmade terracotta tiles, travertine in bathrooms, oak parquet in bedrooms and living room. Large well-equipped kitchen with a generous dining area. 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms. Large terrace facing the Duomo and the Maiella mountains, small terrace downstairs. Blend of antique and modern furniture. Wireless broadband internet.r>
Three min from the main piazza. Stroll the cobbled alleys of this bustling town, famous for its brick facades; drop into one of its museums; enjoy a drink in one of the many cafés, a splendid meal in one of its better restaurants; or explore the pleasant tracks of nearby Lago di Penne or the hike to Monte Bertona and beyond. Beaches or tracked mountain routes are within half an hour’s drive. Easily accessible from international airports in Pescara (35 min) or Rome (2,5 h). Inexpensive rental car from the airport.

Penne is beautifully located at the foot of the Gran Sasso, with the highest peaks of the Apennines, yet only half an hour by car from Pescara and other Adriatic beaches. Unlike many old hill towns, Penne remains vibrant with lots of restaurants, cafés, and shops of all kinds inside the medieval walls, as well a cathedral and numerous churches and museums. Big street market on Saturdays. Nice tracks around the Lago di Penne, a WWF site with more than 160 bird species only 5 minutes outside town, splendid mountain hikes from nearby Montebello di Bertona (15 min drive). Penne is older than Rome and was the capital of the Vestini people before becoming an important Roman town. Later it was the seat of a countdom; its rebellion in 1837 against the Bourbon rulers of Naples and Sicily was among the early sparks of Italy’s risorgimento and unification. Only 35 minutes from Pescara’s international airport.

Beautiful home and perfect location. Olav gave us great information on local restaurants and things to see during our stay. Would love to stay here again if we return to Penne.

Our stay in Penne was nothing short of magical. The house itself was exactly what I would consider my dream Italian home—with beautiful vaulted ceilings, tasteful décor, and an atmosphere that felt both authentic and welcoming. It was clean, comfortable, and full of charm.Olav, the owner, was wonderfully communicative and made the entire experience smooth and enjoyable. The town of Penne is absolutely adorable and completely walkable, with friendly, kind, and helpful locals who made us feel at home. Every restaurant we tried was amazing, serving delicious food that captured the flavors of the region.Penne is a charming little hill town nestled between the Gran Sasso National Park and the Adriatic Sea—perfectly positioned for exploring both the mountains and the coast. Staying here was truly unforgettable, and I can’t wait to return.

The property was exactly as described on the website. Very comfortable and maintained to the highest standards. The kitchen is very well equipped with the espresso machine and the lovely balcony combining to give a dream start to every day. Penne and the Gran Sasso mountains make this location ideal for those who want to experience genuine Italian life in this beautiful part of the world. The owners are a pleasure to deal with and are very helpful at every stage. We have no hesitation in recommending this property.

This is a beautiful and well-equipped apartment, very conveniently located in the heart of the historical district of Penne. The owner was extremely helpful and gracious, especially in offering recommendations for my family (we have three primary school-age children) and very easy to work with. The location within the town allows one to take advantages of the best of Italian community life -- fresh bakeries, coffee, local produce and wine, etc. -- while the city itself provides easy access to both beaches and mountains (for hiking in summer and skiing in winter). I would highly recommend this property to others.

Authentic Italy, nice location, property & owner - part 1 We spent the first two weeks of August 2013 at Olav’s property rental in Penne. My wife, my daughter, 21 and my son, 17. We really enjoy holidaying in Italy having visited Garda, Verona, Venice, Rome, Tuscany and the Amalfi coast. This time we wanted to get beyond the tourist hotspots and find somewhere a little more hidden. We settled on flying in to Pescara on Ryan Air from Stansted and so found ourselves drawn to Penne and this property. The property is spacious, well equipped and comfortable. The owner provides all the information you will need to make the most of the property and your visit. We had just one problem when local electrical work caused an issue with the fusebox. One email to Olav and help arrived very promptly, a part was needed, this was fitted the next day. Great service. Penne is charming and will keep you fit as exploring the hilly streets is a good workout, especially in August. There is a smattering of local bars and restaurants. The gelataria is good, nice café frappe. The small restaurant, La Grotte is really homely, the Signora is charming, rosticcini and pork were tender and tasty and the house Montepulciano d’Abruzzo recommended. There is a modern diner/take-away Pizzeria just outside one of the gates that is good too. Night life is low key mainly focussed on the early evening Passagiata when people casually meet and chat in the Piazza and Piazetta. Just sit alfresco with a cool drink and watch the world go by. We were lucky enough to be in Penne for the medieval festival, which took place over a couple of nights and included people in costume marching, drum banging and flag waving. We also were there for ‘white night’ which featured a variety of rock bands in the squares with DJ’s and dancing all over the town until dawn. Great fun. Another day was a religious holiday, watch out for these as everything closes so if you’re fridge is empty you may struggle to find anything to eat. There was a procession through the streets and some very nice choral singing. In fact there was often the sound of music in the streets, from within a cool church or drifting from an upstairs window, maybe a little classical piano or some traditional accordion playing. continued in part two....

As it turned out we have found a gem in this ancient town of Penne. It was a perfect base camp for our excursions in the Abruzzo region but also a spacious residence for resting between the hikes. We enjoyed the apartment very much, a wonderful place, everything is harmonious, old Abruzzo style meets modernity, that´s what we really love. The equipment is enormous and allowed us to cook as much as we had fun. It was really a great experience to make our own pasta thanks to the existing noodle machine. The library is considerable and offered so many interesting books containing a lot of suggestions which helped to discover this wonderful pieceful place in Italy. Very much recommendable. Wonderful stay!!! The house, finely renovated, is provided with any kind of comfort: the domestic appliance are all completely in service; very extended kitchen stuff; blankets, bed sheets, and towels all clean; two bathrooms very comfortable (one dream bath); ideal fireplace and heating system. We have find the house very clean, evidence of a perfect clean organization with very gentle miss Romina, which have turn on the heating before we arrive. Penne is a very nice small village, typical of italian Middle Ages village; provided with all the necessary for a good stay. We had a wonderful New Year’s Eve in Penne and I think that we will not easily forget it! Finally, the courtesy and distinction of the owner is the setting of that wonderful holiday! Fabrizio ;)

The house 5 stars, was beautifully restored both internally and externally whilst maintaing a unique character throughout. It had a very clean and traditional feel, spacious and with a nice ambience, vaulted cielings, originality etc. The owners had made a great effort in providing you with everything that you could require throughout your stay. The kitchen was the highlight, large and with almost every utensil that you could require to work with. The location perfect for experiencing the Italian way of living and just a few mins walk away from the main piaza, The Security was good but Direct parking difficult however ample of small squares amongst the community. Penne has a nice laid back feel with a friendly community and made a nice base for exploring the wonderful coastline whilst providing you with a traditional way of life. I must also add how efficient and well organised the owner is with guidance and help prior to, during and after your warm stay.
