It overlooks Piazza Iside, where a massive, bare section of the wall of the ancient Temple of Isis—located on the slopes of Colle Oppio—remains visible today. The temple was a vast sanctuary dedicated to Isis, the Egyptian goddess of fertility, life, and magic, and to Serapis, a Greco-Egyptian god, lord of the underworld, fertility, and healing.
