Havelock House’s craftmanship and history has been preserved. Guests will find themselves immersed in the subtle nod to historical roots, including vintage pieces from the early 20th century. Whether admiring the elegant woodwork or enjoying the modern conveniences seamlessly integrated into space, every detail has been curated to offer both comfort & history.
The Chicago, Burlington, & Quincy railroad system recognized the potential of Havelock, establishing Havelock as a hub for travelers & shipping. This heritage finds its way into the decor of Havelock House, with train-inspired design that blends with modern upgrades to make the home a unique retreat.
You will be on the main floor in a private apartment, boasting 1,600 sq. ft. of comfort: 3 private bedrooms, a queen, king & full-size bed. For added flexibility, a couch offers extra sleeping space.
There are 2 entrances equipped with secure, keyless locks for convenience & safety. The same code will work for both doors, providing seamless entry. One is located on the north side, leading to the front yard and parking, while the other is on the east side of the house. The rear (east) entry door provides access to both the basement & main floor apartments. The basement is a private residence & once inside the house, separate coded entry doors ensure privacy for each apartment.
Enjoying the porch in the evenings is delightful, perfect for unwinding after a day exploring the area. The front porch offers a perfect setting to appreciate Nebraska's charm. While the backyard is fully fenced with 2 gates, a concrete patio with an awning, a table with chairs, and free-standing swing. Additional features include a freestanding hammock, antique swing, chair tree swing under a Hackberry tree, a picnic table & compost bin.
No pets.
There is a garden in the backyard & herbs planted all about. Feel free to cut some herbs or pick some fresh vegetables when they are in season. A Bolo toss (ladder game) is available for use. If you're interested in other outdoor games, just let me know, & I’ll happily bring additional options to the house.
There are 4 cameras on the property. One on the front porch, facing the driveway. Another at the rear entry stairwell. The remaining 2 are positioned at the front & back of the garage, overseeing the parking areas.
There is ample parking available on the west side & to the south, near the alley. Please note that clearly marked spots are reserved for the basement tenants. Avoid parking in their designated spaces or obstructing their vehicles. If you plan to use the west gate of the fenced yard, you will need to unlatch it from the inside.
The sunporch houses a breakfast nook that can double as a spot for games or basking in the sunlight. A washer/dryer are located here for your use. Additionally, picnic supplies & outdoor dishes are on the shelf next to the games, making it easy to enjoy outdoor meals.
Children are welcome but the house is not childproof. As such, guests with children are encouraged to bring any necessary safety items or precautions to ensure a worry-free stay. The open layout & eclectic decorations may captivate young ones but could also present challenges without proper supervision.
There is no smoking or vaping in the home. You may sit on the porch or in the patio area & smoke. Clean up your butts! The patio features comfortable seating arrangements, perfect for unwinding with a book, engaging in conversation, or sipping a beverage.
I live close & can assist you with anything you might need. Whether it’s a forgotten item or a quick question about the area, don’t hesitate to reach out. Additionally, I’m happy to provide recommendations for food spots or local breweries during your stay.
Speaking of breweries, you’ll find a few growlers from local favorites in the kitchen, by the coffee bar area. Feel free to use them, just be sure to rinse them out thoroughly & dry them before returning to the shelf for the next guest.
As you explore Havelock, you'll quickly discover its unique blend of history & charm. The avenue is lined with a mix of establishments, each offering a distinctive experience. Start your journey with a hearty meal at Misty’s, renowned for its tender steaks that have satisfied both locals & visitors for decades. If you prefer a lighter start, the Engine House serves up a delightful breakfast!
After fueling up, take a leisurely stroll to 'A' Street Antiques, a treasure trove where timeless pieces & quirky finds await. The ever-changing inventory means there's always something new to discover, whether you're hunting for vintage decor or rare collectibles. For a bit of inner peace, Maggie’s Milkweed Yoga offers a serene escape where you can stretch, breathe, & recharge.
Cross the street to 1893, a cozy cafe where you can indulge in a Touzalin Chai, a blend of spices & warmth that perfectly encapsulates the charm of the area. Beyond these highlights, Havelock boasts a variety of other spots—boutiques, pubs, & hidden gems—that are perfect for exploring. Don’t hesitate to seek recommendations!
For a cozy night in, there's nothing better than treating yourself to one of the local favorites. Isle’s Pub & Pizza is the place to grab a phenomenal pizza. The Leaning Tower with cream cheese is a must-try—its rich, indulgent flavors are the perfect comfort food to pair with a relaxing evening. While you're out, make a quick stop at Castle or The Isles liquor stores to pick up some beer to complete the experience. Once you’re stocked up, head back to your retreat & settle in for a memorable night of relaxation.
If cooking is your ideal way to unwind, the options are endless. Start by visiting Russ’s grocery store located across the street, where you can pick up fresh ingredients for a home-cooked feast. The newly remodeled kitchen is equipped with new appliances. You'll find every tool you need—pots, pans, baking dishes, mixing bowls, & a full set of cutlery—waiting to bring your recipes to life. Whether you're preparing a simple pasta dish, baking a decadent dessert, or assembling an elaborate dinner spread, the kitchen is designed to make cooking a joy.
For those who prefer something quick yet comforting, Russ’s offers delicious fried chicken, perfect for creating a homestyle meal without the effort. Pair it with their deviled egg potato salad & roll out a picnic in the backyard. Throw together a fresh herb salad from the backyard garden. The possibilities are as endless when it comes to crafting a memorable meal at Havelock House.
Have a glass of wine & sit in the living room to stream something new while staying warm in front of the electric fireplace. Kick off your shoes & cozy up on the couch with one of the soft blankets. If you're in the mood for some quiet time with a good book, browse the collection on the shelf, where a variety of genres awaits to spark your imagination.
The house offers a variety of entertainment options. For fans of classic leisure, a chess board, an array of board games, & decks of cards ready to spark friendly competition or quiet strategy. If you prefer digital adventures, bring along your gaming console to dive into thrilling challenges, powered by the high-speed Wi-Fi for uninterrupted gameplay.
For those who enjoy immersing themselves in nature or community attractions, the surrounding area has plenty of opportunities to explore. The nearby parks provide excellent spots for picnics, leisurely walks, or outdoor play. Local farmers' markets, held on weekends from April to November, are a delightful way to connect with the community & pick up fresh produce and goods. Don't miss the vibrant murals & public art scattered throughout the city!
Whether you're commuting for work, leisure, or simply venturing out to explore Lincoln's rich offerings, the convenience of Havelock House's location cannot be overstated. The nearby bike path provides a scenic route to the heart of downtown, where you'll find a vibrant array of shops, cafes, & cultural landmarks. For those who prefer driving, quick access to the interstate ensures that your journey is smooth & efficient. This ease of connection makes it an ideal base for exploring both the bustling city scene & the tranquil outskirts. We have stayed in this home before and loved our previous short stay. We chose to come back for a week-long stay over Thanksgiving, using it as home base for our college student during her break. The owners have set it up with the comforts of your own home and then some. Tons of extras...they have thought of everything you might need. The sleeping spaces are inviting and comfortable. It has a big living room for a whole family to relax in, a huge dining room table that was perfect for celebrating Thanksgiving, a kitchen that is outfitted with almost anything you could need, and a coffee and tea nook (a fav in our family). The back porch is my daughter's favorite spot to sleep and is perfect for a quieter place to work. Most days we walked the neighborhood, walked to antique shop, to get fabulous coffee, pick up a pizza, go to Misty's for a nice dinner, etc. We enjoyed our stay and will come back again!

Very well appointed house with many more amenities than other VRBO. Quick communication with host.Disappointed that the advertised EV charger was just a 120 outlet, so there was no way to be fully charged by morning. Also disappointed the house was 86 degrees when we arrived so it was uncomfortably warm for sleeping.

The online pictures don't do this place justice. The Havok house was beautiful and very accommodating for our stay. Everything in this home was well-planned, and I can't say enough about the overall stay.I have had my fair share of unpleasant experiences with hotels, particularly in terms of not getting what you pay for, especially in the current economy.Walking into the Havok house was an enormous hug and a warm welcome that my family and I will never forget. We will be back for our next visit to Lincoln. Thank you again!!

We came to Lincoln to visit our college student and give her a break from dorm life. This house was our home away from home. It was very cozy, comfortable, spacious, and lovely. It had every little thing we needed and more...so many extras. I especially loved the back porch...perfect place to study, have coffee in the morning, take a nap, or have a quiet moment to yourself. The kitchen had everything we needed to make a meal and we took full advantage of the coffee nook. Loads of different coffees and teas to try. The beds/bedrooms were comfortable and cozy. You can tell the owners take great care of this home and have gone above and beyond to provide a wonderful place to stay. We would absolutely come back again!

This beautiful older home has been lovingly preserved and updated. You can tell how much the owner appreciates the craftsmanship that went into this house when it was built as you step inside. Many original features have been restored like woodwork, doors and floors. And modern updates in the kitchen and bathroom provide for a comfortable stay. The historic Havelock district is literally right outside, with restaurants, entertainment, groceries and more just steps away. The owner is quick to respond to any questions or with recommendations and is a fantastic host. You can’t go wrong with the Havelock House!

4 of us traveled from Wisconsin to attend a Nebraska/Wis football game. From the beginning, the host was accommodating and responded promptly. Check In was a breeze and the home was absolutely lovely. Everything you could need was at your fingertips. Even some home packed pickles and peppers. They were delicious with our Bloody Mary's. The neighborhood was great. Bars, Restaurants and a Grocery Store all within a few blocks. We had a fantastic time mingling with the great residents of the Havelock area. Would highly recommend and definitely have a place to stay when we return.
