There’s nothing like Base Camp; the night sky, incredible views, wildlife — all here! The river, and usually a beach, are a short walk from your door. Take one of the kayaks, or rent a side-by-side to visit Wind Caves and Chicken Corner — at less than half the cost of in-town rentals! There are unlimited hikes from the property, and many more nearby. But if you want to get away to a quiet, off-the-grid spot, that’s here too. Some folks just read, enjoy the wildlife, and stargaze.

ACCESS AND VEHICLE RECOMMENDATIONS
- The road is most often mentioned in reviews, which normally end with 'it's worth it.' It is a mostly dirt road that normally doesn't require four-wheel drive, but it does need about 6 inches of ground clearance. Most SUVs, Jeeps, and trucks have that. Most sedans and vans do not. In most instances, swing wide on the corners going up and down Hurrah Pass, and if you've driven a dirt road before, you should be fine. If heights are an issue for you, there will be lots of issues up and down Hurrah Pass
- As an alternative, call Twisted Jeep in town and tell them you're coming here. They'd rather have their vehicles on this road versus some of the difficult trails in Moab, so if they can give you a good deal, they will

SIDE-BY-SIDE INFORMATION
- If you plan to use one of the side-by-sides while you’re here, there’s no reserving them in advance. The property owner has 2 six-seat side-by-sides and 8 potential rentals. They aren't available for full-day rental; a 4-hour rental costs $250. Payment is by check or cash only
- You can use the side-by-sides to go to Wind Caves and Chicken Corner, where you'll have plenty of time to explore
- The side-by-sides are not for taking to town or the other side of Hurrah Pass. They are strictly for sightseeing in the area

I loved this place so much. I stayed in the male hogan for 2 days, and I'm already itching to visit again! The dirt road wasn't for the faint of heart, but it's definitely doable with 4WD. My 2019 Jeep Cherokee had no issues.

If you are looking for five star accommodations with a gourmet restaurant on the premises, then this isn't the place for you. If you are looking for a backcountry adventure in some beautiful country, then this is the place for you. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating to visitors. While they have provided a lot of necessities, it would be best to plan as if you were going camping and be as self contained as possible when it comes to food and supplies. A fridge and microwave are available but we did most of our cooking outdoors. The hogan was as described and was very cozy for the two of us. It didn't get especially hot while we were there, but the hogan remained cool. Seasonal river conditions weren't really optimal but there was plenty of other activities to keep us busy. Hosts are very knowledgable about the local area and gave great suggestions on what to do and see. At times it was so quiet that you would think that you had gone deaf. From the property you can see Canyonlands across the river. Short hikes will take you into beautiful red rock canyons to explore. If you have a good 4WD there are tons of places to explore. The drive in and out was an adventure in itself and isn't for the faint of heart. I would highly recommend a high clearance vehicle, 4WD probably isn't absolutely required but I personally would not take the family sedan there. Overall it was a perfect getaway trip for us and we are already making plans to come back again.

We are so grateful Tom shared his property with us. The journey to the place itself is amazing, the property views are astounding, and we originally thought we would explore the town of Moab and other hikes during our stay but there was way more to do on Toms property so we stayed there to hike, cook, relax, and play disc golf. Tom had plenty of recommended hikes and it was nice to have our dogs with hiking while encountering very few people on hikes that compare to National Parks. Highly recommend this property!

Absolutely gorgeous, incredibly remote lodging. Bring all your food and supplies, there is camping-style cooking setup (using outdoor grill as stove). Amazingly, even has a small fridge and a microwave, all powered by solar. It's possible to drive in with 2WD (I saw a couple standard sedans parked at the main lodge), but you better REALLY know how to drive if you bring one! I drove a jeep but never came close to needing 4WD low, it was quite easy in 4WD high.

I can't express enough how special our stay was at Base Camp. If you love the quiet of the desert, seeing the endless stars of the Milky Way, or experiencing the wonders of Moab without the crowds then you will treasure your stay here. Tom is an interesting character and gracious host, as are his indispensable staff Collin and Lidia. Embrace the adventure of driving in through Hurrah Pass and you will not be disappointed. Base Camp is a gem in the desert.

Loved our time at Basecamp. The road scared me but after doing it 4 times...we got more comfortable. There is a coffeemaker, coffee, and coffee filters....but no cups! fortunately for me (and everyone around me ), the guys next door had a cup for me to use. With coffee in hand and the great views I couldnt ask for more.

Tom does a great job communicating with you and gets right back with any emails I sent him. The male hogan was exactly how it was described. My son and I had an amazing time exploring up and down the Colorado river. My son is already talking about when we can come back.
