My wife and I had a wonderful time staying here. The house is cozy and away from it all, yet not too far from hiking or even small towns. The amenities were what we needed, and being able to walk up and around the property was a nice bonus, too. We did not open a laptop once, which tells you how relaxed and unplugged we were. The owners were also very quick to answer questions through VRBO, and we had a splendid weekend stay.
Good service through the rental process. Fabulous place to stay.
Great place To stay and nice relaxing visit.
We so enjoyed our stay! The area is so peaceful. The house is well stocked and comfy! We’ll be back!
The house is amazing! Very clean and beds very comfortable! My kids loved the loft area! Lots of space for everyone! The fall colors were amazing! I enjoyed he fireplace with some reading! The Creeper shuttle in Damascus was 38 minutes away! We so enjoyed the trail and did it twice on our stay! The Tavern in Abingdon had a wonderful brunch! We were disappointed only that a lot of things are not open Sunday-Wednesday....it seems most people come on the weekends I guess ....the ice cream shop and restaurant in Damascus were closed / also in Abingdon the only places that were open downtown was The tavern and the olive oil company which I would highly recommend! The house was clean and stocked with some essentials.... which was very nice.... it’s so nice to have salt/pepper/soap/ aluminum foil/soap/trash bags/nice cast iron cookware/ bandaids ( my kiddos used a few) some places we have visited were so bare! So thank you!!!! Doris I loved having the diffusers! We use them at home But did not pack ours! The kiddos enjoyed lavender at night! This is a cozy home that will exceed your expectations! Thank you Doris for sharing the Hideaway!
This property will not disappoint! This beautiful property has everything you could possibly need or want inside and out! The location is so peaceful that my mother actually fell asleep in one of the chairs on the porch! We also loved all the personal touches in the home and the detailed directions on how to use all the amenities. Communication with the owner was wonderful with quick responses to any questions we had. We will de6rent again if / when we are back on this area of NC.
The Hideaway was our sixth VRBO rental for vacation getaways. All of them were selected, in part, because of their proximity to outdoor activities and hiking that were the real focus of the trip. The Hideaway is the first VRBO rental property we've experienced that was a vacation destination entirely unto itself. We would have been quite happy never to leave the property to do anything else. The house is very nice and comfortable, wonderfully decorated, and could easily accommodate eight people. The kitchen has everything you need to fix your own meals and there's a Food Lion grocery store a mere 15 minute drive away in Mountain City. The water tastes great, which may sound like an odd thing to bring up, but we've stayed at a VRBO where the well water did not. The house's country location means the time you spend on the front porch is quiet and you can be relax to the sounds of songbirds and the breeze through the trees. You can hear yourself think here. During the course of our stay, we easily spent three hours ambling the trails that take you up and down the hills, through the woods, and up to the high meadows on the property. We loved this place. We made two excursions for a little hiking. The first was south to Grandfather Mountain where we crossed the swinging bridge and took a trail down to Black Rock. There were beautiful views everywhere we looked. Our second excursion took us north to Grayson Highlands State Park in Virginia. There we followed the Rhododendron and Appalachian Trails almost to Mount Rogers. Along the way we saw a number of the wild ponies that live on the park lands. Again, the views were great and the foliage was beginning to turn to its fall colors. We'd love to return to hike more of this park's trails. We had good reception for our Verizon phones at The Hideaway and I really only mention this if you plan to use your phone for navigation. There was practically no reception at Grayson Highlands. So, starting from The Hideaway, your phone may be able to get you where you're going but you could find yourself, like we did, unable to lock on a route back from a place like Grayson highlands. We'd recommend a GPS system that doesn't rely on cell phone signal to navigate. We eventually did pick up enough signal in Whitetop for the phone to lock in a route back to The Hideaway, so all's well that ends well. The Hideaway is a place we would recommend without hesitation or qualification and is a place we'd like to return.
The house was beautiful and the accommodation had all the things we would have needed.
Cleanest place I have ever stayed. Beds were comfortable. Plenty of room. Enjoyed having a glass of wine on the front porch swing. I would highly recommend it to everyone. We will be back.
Very quiet, a little bit remote, but also enjoyed hiking around the property
