Lisa’s property had a big dining room table which was perfect. Our kids live on the island but in studios. We had to celebrate a day later. Both grandchildren were able to come in the morning, have our Christmas morning and drive home. Only thing to be aware of is the bathrooms are all downsrairs
The house was isolated and a little small for 2 couples, but very comfortable. We had to call the owner to get the code to unlock the second bedroom. No functioning coffee pot we could figure out so we went out for breakfast. Great garden with birds and a cat.
My Mom and I stayed one night for a nearby wedding. We had no problem finding the home or getting inside. However as soon as we entered I was as struck by the smell. It wasn’t the general “empty house” smell, nor was it the typical smell of an old house. Upstairs the smell was worse and to me, it smelled like cat pee and plug-in air fresheners. The 2nd floor has carpet so I’m guessing that’s why the smell was stronger. I can be sensitive to smells, but my mom isn’t and she was bothered too. For me, it was so bad i tried to sleep with my shirt over my nose. Unfortunately, I would not stay here again.
I booked the property a year in advance because Vashon Island fills up fast. There were some snafus booking because it was a new listing but Lisa and I worked it out over the course of a day or two so it wasn’t a big deal. When we arrived at the house we noticed a strong odor of cat pee as we unlocked the upstairs bedrooms. It was a very hot weekend and we opened the windows at night to cool it off but the odor was still horrible. I looked on VRBO to see if there were any other availability’s on the island but there were none and we were quite busy with a family wedding. I called Lisa once I returned home. She said there was a cat hanging around that may have got in but she knew nothing about the odor. I’m certain that whoever prepared the house with flowers for us must have smelled it. And I don’t understand how the cat could have got into the locked bedrooms if it had just snuck in. Lisa said I should have called if there was an issue and I would have if it was something that could be remedied. Our time was at a premium so we just endured. She said she would go to the property and get back to me but I haven’t heard back from her. We were very disappointed with our stay.
Everything related to our stay at the farmhouse went smoothly! The house is ever so charming- we loved every minute of it. The outdoor space, with a grill and propane fire pit, just added to our fun! Thanks Lisa for being so accommodating !
My writing group very much enjoyed the Cottonwood Farmhouse! It was a no stress visit that freed our energy. There were multiple spaces that encouraged some reflective writing, and a nice larger living room/dining space for us to gather as a group. Lisa was a good communicator and very responsive, although from the confirmation onward we were set and ready to go, as was the space. No glitches! The natural setting was not far from the main town which was convenient. All in all, we loved our stay!
We had a great week on Vashon at the farmhouse. Beds were comfortable, kitchen had most things we needed. Lovely grounds around the home. Thanks for the great stay!
