The “Garland Independent School District” serves the youth here in Garland and is also one of the largest employers in the city. One of the most interesting things about the Garland school district is something called the “Freedom of Choice/Choice of School Plan.” This allows parents to choose which school they want their child or children to attend within the district. Most parents send their children to whichever school is closest to where they live for convenience. This is something that is not seen everywhere and really makes Garland unique. There is a staggering 36 primary schools for you to choose from here as well as 9 middle schools and 5 high schools. There are also schools located in Rowlett which is in Rockwell County as well as Sachse which is in Collin County.
