Background, General Information and Weather in Clarkesville –
Clarkesville is located in Habersham County, Georgia. It is also the county seat. At the time of the 2000 census the population here was a scant 1,248. Then when the next census was taken in 2010 it showed that the population here went up to just about 1,700 people. In 2016 a non census related poll was taken and it showed that the population has pretty much stayed close that same number. So this area is still very much up and coming. Clarkesville was founded back in 1821 and was named after John Clark. According to the United States Census Bureau, Clarkesville is a total of 2.49 square miles with a very tiny portion of that being water. When it comes to the weather here in Clarkesville it falls under the category of “Humid Subtropical.” This means that the summers will be very hot and muggy and the winters will be short but often times very cold. The cold season here lasts just under three months. From the end of November until the end of February the daily average high is just under 60 degrees. The low for this time is just above the freezing mark coming in at 33 degrees. The hot season on the other hand lasts for nearly four months. From the end of May until mid September the daily average high is just about 81 degrees. The low for this time is a very comfortable 68 degrees. So the summers here can get a bit warm but they are far from oppressive. Many residents who live here have said that they love the weather in this area. Another great thing about this area is the fact that there is only about two inches of snow fall per year which is great if you were looking to escape the freezing cold winters. Now it might not snow a lot here but it does rain quite a bit. On average Clarkesville receives more than 60 inches of rain per year. This is 20 inches more than the national average of just under 40 inches. During the winter there have been times when the temperature has dropped to a frigid 21 degrees. During this time there can be some frost in the wee hours of the morning but this tends to melt by the time the sun comes up. This does not happen on a regular basis however. The summer months have seen temperatures reach as high as 94 degrees. For the most part you can expect to see the weather stabilize at around the mid 40’s during the winter and around the mid 80’s during the summer regardless of the daily averages.

Education here in Clarkesville –
The Habersham County School District is the school system here in Clarkesville. There are eight elementary schools, three middle schools and two high schools. This school district also employs close to 400 people so this means that the Habersham County School District is one of the largest employers in the area. There are nearly 6,000 students enrolled in these schools. This school district also serves the communities of Alto, Baldwin, Cornelia, Demorest, Mount Airy, Raoul as well as Tallulah Falls. This explains why the student body is close to 6,000 but the total population here in Clarkesville is just about 1,700.

Recreation in Clarkesville –
Even though Clarkesville is relatively small there is plenty to do here. If you like to play golf then you are in luck. There are two golf resorts here. There is the “Apple Mountain Resort” as well as “The Orchard Golf and Country Club.” The second club mentioned is an eighteen hole golf course that features gorgeous mountain views that look like they are straight out of a magazine. Both places are great options if you are looking to get out and play a round.

Movie Star Looks –
Clarkesville has been featured as the backdrop for several big budget films. The largest and most notable is the 2010 film “Wanderlust” starring Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd. Most of the film was shot right here in Clarkesville. Jennifer Aniston has said in interviews that she enjoyed the beauty of the town and found herself wondering around in between takes to check out all this small town had to offer. “The Goats” and “Killing Season” staring John Travolta and Robert DeNiro was also filmed here.
