Weston is a newer suburban community in Broward County, Florida. Located in the western part of the county, the city has Sunrise, Davie, The Everglades and Southwest Ranches as its neighbors. It is the westernmost city in Broward County. The well sought-after community has grown to become a major city in the Miami Metropolitan Area, which boasts more than six million residents. It appeals to diverse groups, from young professionals to businesses and families.
The location now known as Weston was bought by Arthur Vining Davis, founder of Arvida Development Company, in the 1950s. It was originally conceived as a planned community. The first set of residents moved here after the construction of homes in the 1980s. The development of most parts of Weston was done by Arvida in collaboration with JMB Realty. The original area has expanded over the years with annexation of more land. Weston was incorporated as a city in 1996.
According to a 2015 population estimate, the city was home to approximately 70,000 people, surging strongly from less than 10,000 in 1990. It is one of the most desirable places in Florida by individuals, families and companies. Weston has a high number of wealthy and upper middle-class households. In 2010, it had the highest number and percentage of Venezuelans residing in any city in the United States, with these put at 9.4 percent of its population. The city also has a high number of people from Central and South America, with Spanish being the second most-spoken language at home after English.
Weston is a very popular place for property buyers interested in taking advantage of its strategic location and impressive supply of essential amenities. Among the many pluses of the city are an extensive, scenic landscape and one of the lowest crime rates in the state. The most desired communities here include Weston Hills Sector 7, Weston Hills Sector 2, Weston Hills Sectors 8, 9, Weston Hills Sector 6, Weston Hills Sector 4, Bonaventure Country Club and Windmill Ranch Estates. Weston Hills and Bonaventure Country Club are striking golf communities with facilities catering to different levels of skills.
The city has a decent transportation system. The major highways around here include Interstate 75 and U.S. Highway 27. I-75 passes north and south on the eastern rim of Weston and east to west along its northern border. State Road 818, Bonaventure Boulevard and Royal Palm Boulevard are some of the other important routes in this community, which is served by the Broward County Transit.
The Weston area has more than half a dozen public schools, including Eagle Point Elementary School, Manatee Bay Elementary School, Falcon Cove Middle School and Cypress Bay High School. There are also a handful of private schools. The schools around the city are rated among the best in Broward County. Weston is home to campuses of American InterContinental University and Broward College.
Weston is obviously a great community for everyone! It offers impressive infrastructure and facilities for business and living. Boasting an outstanding safety record, the city provides a relatively safe and conducive environment for families, businesses and others living or working here. It has several parks as well as golf and other recreational facilities.
