The town is full of history but also full of life - there's always something going on, either events at the Castle or regular markets/fairs in the town centre. It lies in one of the most unspoilt and tranquil stretches of the British countryside; the Welsh Marches. It provides a great location to explore the Shropshire Hills and to visit the historic towns and villages of Shropshire, Herefordshire and the Welsh borders. There are many local countryside walks such as on the Whitcliff, along the River Teme and in Mortimer Forest, which is also excellent for hiking and biking. Ludlow has many events occurring all year, in particular the renowned Food Festival held every September, a Summer Arts Festival and the Christmas Medieval Fair. Weekly markets are held every day except Tuesday and antique fairs take place regularly. It is also famous for the wide choice of high quality specialty food shops and eating places from bistros to restaurants serving local produce such as meat, cheese, pies, chocolates and beers. Ludlow has its own brewery and is well served by good pubs serving cask ales. Further afield, Berrington Hall and grounds which is a National Trust property is well worth a visit. brbr
