Its roots date to the earliest settlers in the islands in the mid-1600's when they were shipwrecked on nearby Devil's Backbone Reef. They are English speaking.brThe island is a safe, friendly community of about 1,700 that welcomes visitors, and golf carts (buggies) are as common as cars on the streets. Buggies and boats are available to rent at reasonable rates and guided charters are available for fishing, snorkeling or beach combing on nearby islands. Another unique adventure is going to nearby islands to see the famous swimming pigs or other spots where you swim with turtles or rays. brThere are several restaurants, food store, bank (ATM), liquor store, churches and other amenities all within an easy walk. However, we do recommend renting a buggy to explore the island and adjoining Russell Island. (We can arrange to have a buggy on the dock when you arrive). Everything is beach casual, but cover-ups and shoes are required in restaurants. Fresh seafood is featured at most of the restaurants and sometimes special entertainment is featured on the weekend. Some of the chefs will even cook your fresh catch. There is a booklet in the apartment with info on restaurants and other amenities although finding everything on the island is quite easy.brTravel is via the nearby North Eleuthera (ELH) airport. There are direct flights to ELH by Delta from Atlanta, American from Miami, FL & Charlotte, NC and Silver (United and Jet Blue partner) from Ft Lauderdale, or connecting through Nassau and then connect to ELH on BahamasAir or Pineapple Airways. Travel from the airport is quick and easy via Pinder's Taxi and Ferry service at $20 each way per person. If you provide us your flight info we will be sure they meet you at the airport and we will meet you at the ferry dock in Spanish Wells and get you settled in your apartment.br No pets or smoking are allowed.     If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to stay in a tiny house-there isn’t a better opportunity than now. brbrBoHo Bungalow is a charming 372 sq ft. studio nestled among the treetops overlooking the beautiful, tranquil waters of the Bahamas. Just wait…you’ll be as blown away as we are! The inside is absolutely adorable, but most of our time is spent in the 700 sq ft. of covered outdoor space!brbrTake one step inside the door to be met by the beautiful ocean blues with a panoramic view of our favorite ocean on Earth. The entire width of our bungalow is framed in picture windows with impact glass. When designing our home, we wanted to take full advantage of the view from every angle. So, whether you are inside relaxing on our plush sofa or napping on the porch on one of the two outdoor couches, the view is top notch. br(Side Note: Watch your step when walking out onto the porch as we stepped down 6 inches to ensure the handrails wouldn’t impact the view from inside our bungalow.)brWe also have two loungers and hammocks on the patio downstairs for the times it’s a little windy upstairs! Or, maybe you just want the views of the indigenous flowers, papaya trees, banana palms, and plush grass below. brbrOur kitchen is a wonderful galley with bright purple cabinets-to be honest, it’s my favorite part of our home. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so we’ve made certain anyone who loves to cook as much as I do, is set with all of the things you need to make a good meal. Don’t worry-If you are like my other half & don’t really want to spend so much time in the kitchen on vacation, there are wonderful restaurants here on the island who would love to serve you some fresh conch fritters, grilled wahoo or lobster from the local waters! brWe have a small percolator, an espresso machine and a Moka pot for your choice in your morning cup of ambition! brbrYou will have access to our washer & dryer and a small closet to store your things. Who am I kidding? Everything in this house is small! brbrOur wall mounted, smart tv pivots to view from either the bed or the couch. Feel free to sign in to your Netflix account or bring your firestick! TV watching is available but, it’s definitely a secondary activity for us. WiFi is available throughout the bungalow!brbrOur bathroom is the home to a custom tiled shower OR you can escape to our favorite place to shower which is in the great outdoors! We have a hot/cold shower on the south side of the property with incredible water pressure. There is something magical about showering in nature among all the tropical trees. brbrWe have a queen size bed which looks out on the north side to the beautiful water. We believe in quality bedding-so, organic/sustainable bedding it is. If you want to sleep in, we suggest you use the little hooks along the top of the windows to hang the curtains to allow for that extra ?. There is a noise machine on the bedside table for your use, unless you enjoy waking up to the ? crows…brbrSomething to consider while on island and in our home is energy usage. When we started our Caribbean travels over 20 years ago, we were taught a new way of thinking in regards to island infrastructure. One of the things that is most shocking is the price of electricity on the island. While we are so grateful to have our own electric company on island (with very minimal power outages), the cost of electricity is much higher than in the states. Little changes make a big difference, for us & the island. brbrWe will provide you with a starter pack of essentials: toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags. The island grocery store, Food Fair-has all the items you will need to stock up on for your stay! There are reusable grocery bags in the bungalow for shopping as the Bahamas has eliminated single use plastic. YAY! brbrWe have a strict NO SMOKING policy. If you are a smoker, please consider renting another home on the island. I have asthma and cigarette smoke is very harmful to my health. Since we use the home a lot of the year, we cannot have any smoking on our property. Thank you in advance for keeping my lungs healthy! brbrWhen we think of our bungalow, we think of Shakespeare’s quote in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, “Though she be but little, she is fierce.” ? You will jump in a 15 passenger van and be driven a few miles to Gene’s Bay dock, where the same person will bring you over to Spanish wells via the ferry! Or-if you prefer taking another taxi from the airport-you can hop on the government ferry for the short jaunt to Spanish Wells! Either way, its a quick trip from landing in Eluethera and having your toes in the sand on Spanish Wells!brbrFrom there our caretaker will meet you! We suggest renting a golf cart (buggy is the island name) and having the use of it during your stay. Buggy rentals are $50 a day and totally part of the magic of this island! If you are not familiar with the Northside Beach, it is one of the most beautiful, quiet, serene stretches of shoreline in the world. It's a sleepy beach with no crowds, white sand, and crystal clear water.brbrThe house has three bedrooms and two baths, is 2100 square ft, and sleeps eight comfortably. The master bedroom, living room, and dining room each have a set of french doors that open up to a large deck that overlooks the beach.br brThis home features wide open living spaces, vaulted ceilings, wall to wall tile floors throughout, a modern, state-of-the-art kitchen, and very nice, yet comfortable furnishings. It is fully air conditioned. The kitchen is well equipped with plenty of cookware and dishes for a crowd. There are four flatscreen TV's and several DVD players, one in the living room and one in each bedroom. The house was built in 2008, which is very new for Spanish Wells. There is also free wifi with signal boosters so that you can get a wifi signal throughout the house and on the outside deck. brbrIn 2016, we added a new boardwalk and beach deck from the house deck that extends directly to the edge of the beach. It's perfect for coffee in the morning, watching the kids play on the beach in the afternoon, and cocktails in the evening. It's really nice for when you want to hang out on the beach but don't feel like trekking all your stuff out into the sand. You just stroll down the boardwalk and kick back on one of our Adirondack chairs.brbrIn 2019, we added a new beach wall at the end of our yard just beyond the boardwalk. Many of the beach houses on Spanish Wells have a beach wall. It has a convenient set of stairs for easily accessing the beach and there is now a nice, private sunbathing area above the wall. brbrWe also provide two kayaks.brbrWhat sets our house apart from other beach house rentals on Spanish Wells? The open floor plan, large covered deck, and the boardwalk to our beach side deck. The large rooms and open floor plan are unique for the island. Most of the beach fronts are older homes with tiny rooms. And very few of the newer homes have an open living room / dining room / kitchen area that opens up to a large, shaded beach deck. And the house is the only rental home that we know of on Spanish Wells that has a boardwalk that extends down to a beach side deck. brbrThe house is located on 11th St right on the beach on the north side of the island. Note that there is a cemetery on Main Street from 10th to 11th. The cemetery is behind the house opposite the beach. It's a very pretty, very old little cemetary. It's quiet and provides extra privacy for the house. The landscaping behind our house hides it completely from view. brbrTo get to Spanish Wells from the US, you want to fly to the North Eleuthera airport (ELH). There are direct flights from Atlanta, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Nassau. The house is about 30 minutes from the airport via taxi and water taxi. brbrTo arrange the taxi and water taxi, give Pinder Taxi a call at 242-359-7135 or google 'Pinder Taxi Spanish Wells' to get their contact info. They usually charge $15 per person one way.brbrThey will drop you off right by the golf cart rental company. A four person golf cart usually costs around $250 per week. Google 'Harbourside Rentals Spanish Wells' for their website and to reserve a golf cart.brbrWe have had a lot of people ask about refunds with regards to the Covid-19 pandemic. Now that things are pretty much back to normal, we will not be providing Covid related refunds.brbrWe spend about six weeks per year at Amberjack House.
