Villa Cristallo, situated in the pretty town of Luz, may be your answer. With wonderful treats, including a sauna, gym, jacuzzi and a badminton and volleyball court, Villa Cristallo is a fabulous holiday villa for large groups. The villa offers total privacy, beautiful private gardens, an excellent swimming pool plus a shallow children’s pool and a fabulous outdoor summer kitchen for barbecues and alfresco dining. As you enter through the electric gates, you know you will relax in true style.Villa Cristallo enjoys a sprawling, modern layout with bedrooms on all three levels. All of the rooms in this delightful villa are generous in size. There are not too many villas where 20 guests fit in so easily! There are three double bedrooms on the ground floor, each with a stylish, fully tiled ensuite bathroom and direct access to the sun terrace and swimming pool. An additional large, ground floor double bedroom enjoys its own ensuite bathroom annexe and direct access to the pool terrace. The bathrooms are contemporary with a range of wet rooms, walk-in showers and baths, all luxurious and immaculate. There are two fabulous double bedroom suites on the first floor, along with the living spaces. One enjoys access to a large terrace while the other has its own private balcony with incredible sea views. The remaining four bedrooms are located on the upper level. Again, they all enjoy en-suite bathrooms, and one bedroom boasts a large private balcony with panoramic sea views. The main entrance hallway and the massive living room is on the first floor. Squishy leather sofas and chairs surround the huge television, and there is a small table that is perfect for a game of cards. There are steps down to the huge modern kitchen, the dining room and the utility room. The outdoor terrace is wonderful for large groups. Next to the large swimming pool is a children’s pool. They are surrounded by sun loungers for the whole group. Close by is a fabulous badminton/volleyball court, perfect for your teenagers. The alfresco dining area and summer kitchen is a wonder, where you can enjoy a barbecue for 20! Close to the covered alfresco dining area is the jacuzzi under a pergola. You will have to take turns for this as it seats six though there is a bar area with stools so other members of your group can chat while you enjoy the bubbles. Youngsters will enjoy the table tennis, table football and other activities provided. You also need to try the cakes and bread from the bakers on Rua Direita. Those with an adventurous spirit looking for an adrenaline rush should book an eMTB electrically assisted bike trip with Booster Bikes. The longer trips are 65km, and guides take you to see attractive places from a completely different perspective, though you may want to opt for a shorter trip.Visitors enjoy the sensational cliff top walk to Burgau, where you can watch the Atlantic rollers splashing on the rocks below. Many visitors return to the charming Burgau time and time again. You really need to explore on foot to appreciate this little gem fully. The labyrinth of narrow streets leads to the stunning beach. The whitewashed houses all lean crookedly against each other, drapped in colourful flowers.Salema is another lovely place to visit, especially to enjoy delicious sardines cooked at one of the restaurants overlooking the beach. There are some wonderfully isolated coves if you are brave enough to tackle the cliff paths. Salema is located in the unspoiled Costa Vicenta Natural Park, a protected area of natural beauty. The half-mile-long Praia de Salema is a Blue Flag beach with sugar-fine, golden sand. It is wonderful for swimming as the water is calm. Lagos has an important and informative slave museum, a wonderful promenade and many restaurants serving delicious food in the Old Town. You can buy fresh local produce at the Saturday morning market. The honey and figs are very special. You can take boat trips to visit caves and to snorkel or dolphin watch. Lagos is bustling with activity, nightlife and modern attractions. The town is historic and characterful with a rich seafaring heritage and a dramatic coastline. The fascinating buildings include the 17th-century fort and intricate Baroque churches such as Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Luz and the city’s ancient Moorish walls. The cultural centre of Lagos was originally built in 1710 as the Convent of Saint Joseph and is now home to exhibitions of paintings, photography and sculpture.On the other side of Lagos, you will find the gorgeous Praia do Alvor. There is a lovely sheltered pool, for the apartments residents & guests. brThere is ample parking, and it is just a few minutes walk to the village and 10 minutes walk to the beach. brThe modern re-fitted apartment, includes a fabulous kitchen, an ultra modern bathroom, all new furniture, large smart TV with UK channels, Wi Fi, new bedroom furniture, all in showroom condition.brThe apartment is fully air-conditioned, and has intercom entry. Guests can use the stairs or the elevator according to preference.brLuz is a lovely and popular village with lots of good restaurants, bars and shops and a beautiful paved promenade lined with palm trees leading down to the gorgeous sandy blue flag beach.brbrThere are two water sports facilities at Luz beach offering tuition for young and old. Also available is tennis, cycle hire, golf, coastal walking and nature walks. brbrThis is a terrific location, with lots of excellent restaurants within a few minutes walk and the blue flag beach is about 10 minutes walk away. The village has supermarkets, pharmacy, health shop and clothes and gift shops, as well as a post office, banks, dentist and a medical centre. Everything in the village is within walking distance so you do not need a car.brbrLagos is 8 km away, about 5 minutes by car, and there is a cheap and frequent bus service from Luz to Lagos and other beaches nearby. Lagos has a wonderful waterside promenade, a marina and is flanked by lovely beaches on either side. The old city walls are virtually intact and they contain a myriad of narrow paved and cobbled streets many of which are lined with shops, restaurants and cafe bars which spill out onto the pavement. brbrLagos reveals many layers of history and you can visit ancient churches, forts and a former slave market and imagine the Portuguese sailors setting sail from here in the 1400s to discover the Americas. This bedroom connects into a beautifully renovated private bathroom with a large bathtub and Portuguese sink. A second large bedroom has a smaller double bed as well as a twin-size bed and a large build-in wardrobe. A third bedroom has three twin-size beds and a large build-in wardrobe. It also has a new private sink. This is an ideal room for a family with many children. In addition to the main bathroom which has a bathtub, there are two additional newly renovated bathrooms in the hallway, both with large showers.brbrCasa da Figueira’s majestic fig tree (which gave the villa its name) stands in the middle of the large yard surrounded by palm trees, an olive tree and many other mediterranean plants and cacti. A beautiful fountain which we made of river and beach stones makes this the ideal location for a relaxing afternoon. brbrThe kitchen door opens to a third courtyard with a build-in open fire barbecue pit and a beautiful large table that can seat up to 10 people. Charcoal can be bought at the local Baptista grocery store. Behind the courtyard is the Orangerie with lemon, orange, clementine, persimmon and pear trees. The guests are welcome to enjoy the fruit when it is ripe. Towels are changed twice/week and linen once a week or when you ask. Amelia makes you feel welcome and immediately at home and can help you with your laundry. Amelia will be able to provide friendly help and assistance as needed. Feel free to leave her a tip if happy with her services. brbrThe pool is cleaned and the yard is taken care of once/week by Tandy and his team. He normally comes on Thursday. So that day might be a good time to make an excursion.brbrExclusive Privacy: Casa da Figueira will be only yours for the week: you will be the only tourists there when you rent it, no-one else is allowed on the secure property except with your permission. We do want to keep the property in exceptional condition year-round. brbrThere are plenty of opportunities to dine in Praia da Luz. Our favorite restaurant is called Onda Luz Restaurant and is located right when you enter the village of Luz and walking distance from Casa da Figueira. It looks plain and simple from the outside, but the food is just delicious and the service great. Ask for cataplana. Near the beach in Praia da Luz, also walking distance, try out the renovated 16th century Fortaleza or try one of the many restaurants adjacent to Praia da Luz church or on the beautiful promenade.brbrThe Algarve is a highly regarded year-round golfing destination, a true golfer’s paradise. There are over 25 fabulous golf courses in the Algarve with others under development. Several of them are close to Casa Figueira. The closest one is just up the road (5min drive) called BoaVista at the entrance of Luz.brbrThe best way to get to Casa da Figueira in Luz is to fly to either Lisbon or Faro (airport in the Algarve). Lisbon is a 3 hour drive to Casa da Figueira and Faro is a 1 hour drive to Casa da Figueira. Both journeys are very scenic and on excellent highways. There is an express bus and a train connection between Lisbon or Faro and Lagos if you prefer. Once in Luz everything is walking distance: beach, shops (local grocery store delivers at home), restaurants, hiking. brbrLagos is a historic town about a 10 min drive from Luz. Lagos is accessible from Praia da Luz with an easy 20 min Onda bus ride Linha 4. Lagos has a refreshing, relaxing charm with lots of cozy restaurants, many bars, live music, local art shops and an active marina. A daily fresh fish market, weekly vegetable market and monthly flee market provide unique charm to the city. In fact there are many flee markets where you can find great treasures in towns all across the Algarve. There are also plenty of opportunity to explore the area. Here are a few half or full-day trips that I recommend. Walking or biking west of Praia da Luz on the nature trail adjacent to the cliffs gets you to Burgau, a working fishing village, and Salema with a beautiful beach. You can also make the scenic 2.5 hour hike from Casa da Figueira to Lagos. brbrAnother half day trip is driving West of Praia da Luz towards the “End of the World”. About 30 km past Praia da Luz you reach Sagres with its Fortaleza which School of Vasco da Gama from where the Portuguese discovered half the world. A couple miles past the Sagres Fortaleza is Cape St Vincent which is the most westerly tip of Europe, called the “End of the world”. The coastline running North from Cape St Vincent is undeveloped and wildly beautiful. It faces onto the open ocean with nothing but the Azores between here and the East Coast of the United States.brbrThe Algarve also has many award winning wines. About 15 wineries are located within 1 hour drive from Casa da Figueira. Many of the wineries provide wine making tours and/or wine tasting opportunities.
