The home has 2 heat pumps and a log fire to keep the house warm in winter and cool in the summer. Sit out on the large deck and admire the mountain and rural outlook. Its residential population is 1,500 but in summer the population more than triples. Twizel was built in 1968 as a greenfields project to service the Upper Waitaki Hydroelectricity Scheme and was intended to be removed once the project had been completed. However, in 1983 its residents successfully fought to save the town. At the height of the project in the 1970s, the population peaked at around 6,000. Twizel is now a service and tourist town for visitors. Nearby Lake Ruataniwha supports sailing, water skiing and prominent rowing events, such as the Maadi Cup, while the Ohau Skifield and the Round Hill Ski Area attract winter tourists. Other surrounding lakes, such as Lake Benmore provide warm and safe boating conditions for all of your summer activities. The Alps to Ocean Cycleway is the newest and hugely popular drawcard of tourism in the Mackenzie. The house has three spacious rooms, two with a queen bed and one with four single bunk beds. There is fourth room that is in the sleepout next to the garage, this has two single bunk beds and a double futon bed, which makes it perfect for a large group. Clean linen is provided, which includes towels. brbrThere is an open plan kitchen, lounge and dining area which opens up onto the deck. The house retains its heat well and is warm when heated. The passage has a heatpump/airconditioner which heats most of the house and there is an installed gas heater in the lounge/kitchen area which provides instant heat (no need to light fires and wait for it to get warm). Oil heaters, electric blankets and extra blankets are available for extra warmth!brbrThe hot water is heated by gas so you will not run out of hot showers. The bathroom is spacious with a toilet and a large amazing shower. There is an extra toilet in the laundry (making it 1.5 bathrooms). brbrThe outdoor furniture is on the deck next to the BBQ, in the beautiful peaceful fully-fenced back garden and has a recently installed shade cloth to provide much needed shade in summer. brbrThere is plenty to keep you and your kids entertained, a PlayStation II with various games for young and old, a separate TV and DVD player with numerous DVD's, books, kids toys, a ride-on bike, games, puzzles, balls, tennis rackets, soccer nets, various size older bikes with helmets, a basket ball hoop and a trampoline (with no safety net). There is a large flat screen smart TV with freeview in the lounge and a satellite dish is available if you want to bring your own sky decoder. brbrThere is plenty of off-street parking available inside closed gates, with enough space to store a boat or trailer and a few cars. The long drive-way is a double lane so is easily accessible, yet off the main road.br brCleanliness is important to us, as you can see from our reviews, however during this COVID time we are taking extra care with cleaning and disinfecting. Cleaning products are available for guests to use during their stay, so they have peace of mind. We are also regularly decluttering and spring-cleaning the house, making sure everything is clean. Guests are welcome to bring their own linen and bedding. brbrAll guest interaction is contactless, keys are kept in a lockbox for easy access and self-check-in. We are also very flexible with cancellations during this time.

Mountain View Abode is a spacious 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home with sweeping views of the Southern alps, on the edge of the picturesque high country town of Twizel. Set on 2 acres overlooking a private pond towards snow covered peaks, it’s also a stone's throw to the town square and shops, restaurants and cafes. Our home is situated in an exclusive position directly on the Alps to Ocean Cycle Trail, and is a perfect base for exploring Mount Cook National Park. The space Mountain View Abode is spacious and comfortable designed to make you feel at home. There is a master bedroom with en-suite complete with jacuzzi, as well as a queen guest bedroom, another room with 2 single beds, and central bathroom. We've intentionally laid out the space to maximise the views, and to keep the living areas free of clutter. Therefore you'll find the microwave tucked away in the pantry, and a bar fridge only in the kitchen. There is a full sized fridge in the mud room or laundry room. The home has underfloor heating in the living areas, a log burner in the living room perfect for reading a book next to, a 60 inch TV, and sweeping views out all the living area over our private pond and beyond to the Southern Alps. Guest access You'll have access to the entire house Other things to note Bookings with children under 12 years old. We list our property for 12 and up, because we have some unique features that could pose a risk to young children, specifically the log burner and the pond. However we are open to our guests managing these risks themselves should they feel that in their circumstances, their children are adapted to cope with these risks. If so, send us a message and we will discuss on a case by case basis.
