At La Chascona, there are infinite possibilities for memorable experiences. Our favorites: enjoying morning espressos in bed while looking out to the bay; sun-bathing on the secluded sandy beach; swimming in the crystal-clear ocean; grilling and making pizzas at sunset; dining by candlelight in the outdoor kitchen; and, star gazing on the double lounger.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Highlights of La Chascona

• Private, cozy setting – Nestled on St. Thomas’ quiet Northside with breathtaking 180-degree views of Inner & Outer Brass Islands from the 6 foot wide, wrap around balcony.

• Unique touches – An enclosed herb garden and mature fruit trees (help yourself to bananas if they’re ripe!).

• Outdoor kitchen – Wood fired pizza oven and charcoal, built in grill making cooking outdoors while watching the sunset a key memory from your vacation.

• Modern comforts in island style – ACS, internet, and running water all solar-powered with Tesla Powerwalls for seamless electricity, plus CCTV security (no indoor coverage, of course) that record locally and to the cloud. Make sure to turn off the ACS when departing for the day to ensure power is available when you return from being at the beach all day.

• For older kids only – Best suited for guests 5+ due to outdoor stairs, tiled walkways, and open railings. The walkways are covered by can get slippery when wet.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Close to

• Neltjeberg Beach – this secluded local beach is only a 5-minute drive down the road. You often find you are the only people at the beach. Please do NOT bring vehicles onto the beach. It is a turtle nesting beach and our sand is too soft to support a vehicle.

• Hull Bay Beach – about 8 minutes from the property and has great snorkeling and a restaurant right on the beach.

• Moe’s Grocery Store – located about 5 minutes from the property, it’s a great spot to grab essentials. It can be a bit pricey for a full grocery haul but it is a fully stocked grocery store. We recommend stopping at Pueblo on the way up the mountain.

• Phantasea Tropical Gardens – a great place to visit if you’re looking for something different from the beaches. It’s a lovely way to spend a couple of hours and they often have local eggs for sale!

• Fish Bar and The Shack at Hull Bay – Fish Bar is great if you want a nicer dinner. The food is always amazing and the cocktails are creative. The Shack at Hull Bay is a super casual spot that has delicious fish tacos and burgers and is located steps from Hull Bay Beach.

• Cyril E King Airport – about 18 minutes away

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Where you’ll sleep

• Primary Bedroom – located on the main floor, just off the main living space. You will sleep in a cozy queen bed with access to the outdoor kitchen and living space. The ensuite bathroom is just steps from the bed. You can close off the primary bedroom by sliding the barn doors shut.

• Guest Bedroom – located on the lower level via a 15-step outdoor staircase that wraps around the side of the home. You will sleep in a full-sized bed. You are steps from the heavy bag, your ensuite bathroom, and will find the laundry located in the closet of this bedroom.

We STRONGLY suggest securing your car rental as soon as possible. Rental car companies are having a hard time keeping up with the present demand. We recommend renting a SUV or a vehicle with high clearance to negotiate the unpaved road and switch-back turns.

La Chascona is named after the love nest that Pablo Neruda, the Nobel Prize-winning Chilean poet, built for his secret lover and eventual wife in Santiago in 1953. We hope that you will find as much relaxation, peace, and joy in our hideaway as Pablo and Matilda found in theirs!

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Important to Note

• While the villa is completely private, you may encounter service vendors, like the landscaper, during your stay. They set their own schedules and do not provide notice.

• Renting this villa requires signing a rental agreement

Island Tings

This is a tropical island. Lizards may sneak inside (they help with bugs), and you'll likely see a few wild critters from your balcony. We have monthly pest control and recommend keeping doors closed to avoid extra guests.

There is no trash service on the island. You will need to remove all trash during your stay and before you depart to the closest dumpsters on the island. You will be provided coordinates to the closest one the day after arrival.

    It is a magical house with the most amazing views of the ocean! We loved the outdoor kitchen, the gorgeous house, and the private grounds. As stated, the road is for 4 wheel drive vehicles only and not for the faint of heart but well worth it!

    La Chascona was a wonderful stay! Private, beautiful, well provisioned, and so close to an almost private beach! While the road to the home (and to the beach) is a real challenge, it is totally worth it! I would stay here again! And highly recommend a 4 x 4 if driving. Enjoy the challenge of the drive and then relish the view.

    Rough driveway but totally manageable with a high clearance 4x4. Very tasteful place with amazing views. Would absolutely stay here again.

    We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful property. The property was well equipped with everything we needed plus more but the amazing views and privacy of the property made it feel like your were on your own little island and made it easy to escape the mental stress of daily life and get the most of what vacation is needed for!

    We loved this house! The view and are were wonderful. The outside area was our favorite part of the house, it was great for eating and hanging out or waking up on the morning to watch the sunrise! If you end up staying here please go down to Neltjeburg Beach it was absolutely stunning!

    This was a one of a kind trip. Sure the roads are rough, but know that going in. You don’t get this sort of location in St Thomas just off a main road. It was quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed the place very much, The beach was an extra special treat. We spent many days down there and would rather be there when we were at other beaches. Tip for the pizza oven. Start getting it hot earlier than you think. And get it really hot to better results.

    The view is breathtaking. The home is nice and comfortable. It was clean and property manager was always available to us. The only reason I gave the location/neighborhood a 4 instead of a 5 is the long rocky drive to get to the home. They are not kidding when they say you need a Jeep or SUV. A car will not cut it and you will probably cause damage to the vehicle. So if wanting to save money and you move forward with getting a car, I strongly suggest getting full insurance coverage on vehicle because some type of damage will probably happen. However, it is the islands and this home definitely reminds you of this. Otherwise, everything else was what you expected. The beach at the end of the road was beautiful and peaceful. You had much privacy from the neighbors. We enjoyed our stay very much and plan on returning next year.

    We enjoyed the outdoor grill and pizza oven. We grilled or made pizza most nights. The road does take a vehicle with high ground clearance. We rented a jeep and did fine. We rarely met other cars on the steep inclines. The beach was beautiful and secluded. Sitting outside and enjoying the view from the house was very peaceful. We would stay again.

    Everything was awesome, no complaints whatsoever. The road down is definitely no joke but gets easier to traverse after a run or two. The beach at the bottom of the hill is beautiful and private. Great stay

    This property was perfect for our anniversary trip. The views and outdoor area exceeded our expectations and the home had everything we needed for a wonderful stay. It is definitely worth traveling to Neltjeberg Beach. Our new favorite spot on the island! Dionne was a pleasure to work with and we look forward to returning!
