Enjoy one of the Best Beaches in Florida!: Nokomis Beach is thought by many to be the best beach in Florida. Nokomis Beach is located on the barrier island of Casey Key. Casey Key is 'old Florida' in all the best sense. There are no highrises or condos on Casey Key, and no large hotels. A few 1950's motels still remain on the edge of the Gulf of Mexico but the rest of Casey Key is home to beautiful beach front homes. The author Steven King has a home here. Casey Key has the highest concentration of nesting sea turtles anyplace on Gulf of Mexico in the U.S. From May to October the lights are kept from shining on the beach so the hatchlings can safely make their way to the water. The residents of Casey Key value their pristine paradise and it is only a 1/2 mile walk from your villa at Seahorse Shores. The local beaches thoughtfully provide outdoor showers to rinse the sand and salt off. For the more adventurous, Venice offers the best fossil shark tooth diving in the world. Some of our guests have become Scuba certified here.
Great things to do: Nokomis Beach is 1/2 mile away! We provide a great guest binder in the villa with information about these activities and others and with menus
from the great local restaurants. Unique and fun things to do in this tropical vacation paradise: Visit the world famous Venice Audubon Rookery where herons, egrets and other birds nest. 8 miles away, free. Peak Season is Winter/Spring. Scuba Dive off of Venice Beach for fossil sharks' teeth including huge Megalodon teeth and other fossils. You can go right in from the shore. 4 miles away. Or go out on a Florida West Scuba School charter boat that will put you right on the best spots. You can also get quickly certified and do your training dives right from the beach where the sharks' teeth are. Visibility is best in April, May & June but divers go year round. Great Fishing and Golfing is plentiful and well known to those who enjoy those sports. The Venice Jetty Fish Camp (1.5 miles away) sells live bait shrimp before dawn.
More Great things to do!: Enjoy the drum circles at Nokomis Beach every Wednesday and Saturday 1 hour before Sunset. Go Kayaking with any of several local outfitters. Take a tour, a class, rent a kayak or go to a free kayak demo to try paddling many models for free. You can also rent kayaks and canoes at Myakka River State Park and canoes at Oscar Scherer State Park. Visit Myakka River State Park and walk thru the tree tops on one of the world's few canopy walks. They also have tours on the world's largest airboat for up close views of alligators and other wildlife (airboat tour is $10) 20 miles away. Admission to the State Park is $5 per carload. Ride a bicycle or walk along our newly completed trails: the Venetian Waterway Park in Venice (10 miles of paved trail along both sides of the intercoastal waterway) and the 12 Mile Legacy Trail from Venice to Sarasota. A trailhead is less than 2 miles away.
Wonderful location, great communication with host, and overall an excellent and very comfortable vacation home. Modernizing the bathroom would make stay even better.
I loved the proximity to the beach. Just a short walk and you are on the public beach. There are a few good restaurants within walking distance so I didn’t need a car. The home was great. Beds were comfortable. The kitchen was important because I do a lot of cooking while on vacation.
Close to the beach
very bad experience, very old house, very bad smell,it was booked for 6 nights ,we stay 2
It was a great experience. The house was very clean. The property manager was available overall stay excellent.
We enjoyed our stay. The house was clean and we had no problems during our stay. We liked how close it was to shopping and beaches. We plan on staying again next year!
It was plenty for me and my small family to stay. Needs a little updating and maybe some new beds but we enjoyed our stay and would stay again.
Having one bathroom was a little hard on the family but I loved the cozy layout and cute decor, and being so close to a grocery store and a nice beach in Nokomis was an overall great stay. My two girls and wife didn't want to leave! Queen bed was a little creaky and bathroom could use a little freshening up but nothing that stopped us from enjoying ourselves. Having a washer and dryer right there was a great feature, worked great.
Property was clean and was as advertised. I would suggest an upgrade to the bathroom - tub needs to be replaced in our opinion
This is a typical old Florida home in an old Florida neighborhood. Nothing fancy but has all you need. The beds were comfortable. We enjoyed sitting at the table and chairs in the back yard to visit and eat meals. We also liked sitting in the little outdoor covered patio at the front entrance. The beech can be walked to in about 15 minutes and it’s beautiful. No high rises in sight!
We enjoyed the location. Had a sense that this is a new property to renting. We left suggestions with the manager that hopefully will make future renters more comfortable.
This property is a great location-close to the beach, grocery stores, restaurants. Unfortunately, we found it to be the worst VRBO we've stayed in. It was not at all welcoming and did not feel clean. When we first arrived there was such a sickening odor, that we wanted to leave immediately, but tried to freshen it up with some diffusers. After 2 days and 3 diffusers it was still bad, so we wanted to leave and get a refund but the owner said no, open the windows. It took brute strength to open the windows (and the window sills were disgustingly filthy). After a week and a half (with windows open, diffusers and a couple of candles) the odor was gone. The owner was very responsive when I asked for toilet paper (there was only 1/4 of a roll when we arrived), tissues and some basic kitchen supplies, but the kitchen was still lacking some essentials (like a pot holder!). We were very glad the we had beautiful weather and the beach for relaxation, because we definitely could not relax here.
clean
Clean, near the beach, heated if needed. Owner answered rapidly for a little matter that have been solved immediately. Would enjoy coming back! Canadian Snowbirds
Easy. Clean, and great location. Would recommend to friends.
This rental is situated within walking distance of the Nokomis marina and beach! It has everything you need including a BBQ. My partner and I enjoyed our stay and Greg was friendly and accommodating.
