Nestled in a nature reserve in the hills of Silves, The River House at Figs on the Funcho offers stylish group accommodation with character and charm and total privacy for up to 10 people.

Only a 35-minute drive from Faro Airport into the Algarve’s peaceful countryside. This riverside location has 5 spacious double rooms with light and airy social spaces; high-ceiling lounge and kitchen outfitted with a center kitchen island and a bespoke cherry wood dining table.

There are several quiet areas on the property to enjoy and take advantage of the peaceful, tranquil, scenic surroundings. Outdoor spacious deck area with terraces offering warm sun, a cool canopy and natural shade, all with stunning views of the countryside and breathtaking sunsets.

Enjoy bird watching, book a relaxing aromatherapy massage, a stand up paddle boarding lesson or you could simply chill out by the infinity pool with jaw-dropping views of the Funcho dam and river area.

The clean, country air and beautiful views of the river and countryside can be best enjoyed during picturesque, easy going walks on the well signed walking route know as the via Algarviana. On this walk you will discover the lovely cistus rockrose, thought to be magical and therapeutic and Portugal’s national tree, cork oak, showing their bright orange-brown coloured trunks when stripped for cork. You can meander along the river and through the country fields to the village, S.B. Messines, home of the famous Portuguese poet, João de Deus. Enjoy a leisurely lunch before heading back to the villa.

The local shops, restaurants, supermarket and farmers market is a 5-minute drive by car.

Prepare seasonal produce purchased from the nearby Farmers Market into delicious delights in our expansive fully equipped kitchen. You can have local ingredients procured for you courtesy of our shopping concierge service. If you prefer not to cook, choose delicious home cooked dishes from our extensive menu and have the meals delivered to the villa.

A 25-minute drive by car takes you to some of Europe's most sought-after beaches in Albufeira. Our favourite being, Praia da Falésia, a 5 mile sweep of Blue Flag beach, where you will find the quaint and traditional fishing village, Olhos de Água with a selection of restaurants with ocean views and a variety of fresh fish on the menu.

Days Out:
There are many restaurants & cafes nearby where you can relish some amazing cuisines. The shopping centres & outlet stores are also close by where you can stock up on supplies or buy your holiday memorabilia.

Take boat tours, from the Albufeira marina, to view the dolphins, caves and unique rock formations. The catamaran day trips, from the Villamoura marina, includes a sardine BBQ on the beach and a dip in the cool, fresh ocean.

Family fun at the water parks (Slide & Splash at Lagoa), a visit to the zoo (Zoo Lagos) with 'monkey islands' are brilliant or Zoomarine oceanarium (Guia) with an opportunity to swim with the dolphins are close by.

Wine tours (various tour options) in Guia, near Albufeira, at Adega do Cantor translates to Winery of the Singer, Sir Cliff Richard.

A range of shops, eateries, home stores & Nike outlet at the Algarve shopping centre (Guia). Pottery outlets in Porches & Monchique.

The Moorish town, Silves, is on the river & has a castle, cistern well in the archaeological museum, magnificent cathedral & the Cruz de Portugal (Cross of Portugal). Lots of shops & lovely restaurants to enjoy. Rui's restaurant is very good for seafood, the English Cafe near the castle has great views or try one of the riverside restaurants.

Silves is the perfect setting for the annual Medieval Festival in August with it s narrow, cobbled streets leading up to the castle to a medieval market place. Trestle tables & hay bales are laid out next to the barbecues & spit roasts in the 'dining' area & strolling musicians & jugglers entertain.

Alte is a typical Portuguese village & extremely attractive. Picnic tables, BBQ facilities, cafe & restaurant can be found at at Fonte Grande where you can to enjoy a swim in the lovely cool waters. Walk (or drive) out of the village & along the river for about 2km to the Queda Vigario, the largest waterfall in the Algarve.

Caldas de Monchique was a fashionable spa in the early 20s. Famous for it warm springs. Have lunch in the quiet square under tall shady trees. The region is well known for its medronho (brandy made from the fruit of the strawberry tree) & the scissor chair (wooden chair). There is a pleasant walk in the forest along a stream. En route to Caldas de Monchique visit the Foia peak (902m) the highest mountain in the Serra de Monchique & enjoy views of the entire Algarve coast on a clear day.

A peaceful and beautiful spot. Pleasant evenings under the stars. Great bird watching. 30 minute drive from some beautiful beaches. A well equipped villa.Jessica was friendly and attentive. My only complaint was that the air conditioning was not working in two of the bedrooms when we arrived - the engineer could not attend for four days and I had to wait at the villa to let him in.The other problem was ants - the only safe place to leave any food was in the fridge and they were getting in to the children’s beds.

We were 2 families staying for a 10 night holiday. The villa was clean, comfortable and very well equipped. The outdoor space was beautiful and the stunning view and peace and quiet was exactly what we all needed. Thank you to the villa owners and Jess the very helpful villa contact, we had a wonderful time here.

We stayed at the River house with our 2 families (including 5 children - 8 years and under) this July. We appreciated some of the extra touches - a welcome package with wine and snack and really appreciated that the owner supplied 3 lifejackets for our youngest children to keep them safe in the water. The property is very quiet, and set in a rural area. We enjoyed runs along the river, pretty view from the pool and the kids had fun playing on the deck and in the pool. It is a bit of a drive to get anywhere - but we did multiple local day trips that were fun (village of Alte, castle at Silves, beaches in several places). Some minor downsides were that the kitchen wasn't that well stocked for families (no tupperware to pack up lunches), no garbage bags that fit the bin, and no spare toilet paper! The beds were all singles pushed together, so the couples had to deal with not falling in the crack! We also had quite a lot of debris from the trees falling on the deck, so it took some sweeping to keep clear for the kids. We didn't see any water toys for the pool, but we picked some up easily. Lots of information provided re things to do and places to eat. Overall, it was a great place to stay with lots of space for the kids, and plenty of toys and games to keep them occupied. Air conditioning, security system and Wifi worked well.

What a gorgeous villa and location! We had a fabulous time. We visited lots of beaches (motorways are empty so we're able to just drop down to the coast and pick a different beach each day) and local towns - including the historic Silves, the market at Loule and the gorgeous village at Alte. We also used the local cook, Gill, on the last night and enjoyed her catering which was a lovely treat. The trampoline, toys and ride on cars at the villa were a big hit with the little boys! And the BBQ and sun setting view from the pool was enjoyed every evening by the relaxing adults!

A peacefully situated, well equipped and comfortable house - matches the listing description perfectly. The house easily accommodated our family of 8 adults and was fully equipped for our one year old granddaughter, including lots of toys and a playhouse which she loved. Extremely good value for a property of this standard. We had a wonderful holiday and we're hoping to go again next year.

House was superb and really new and the area around was fantastic. We enjoy a lot our holidays and did lot of things (rented the quads to visit the hills, enjoy lots of beachs and rested a lot). Everything has been really easy from the begining. Thanks Cheryl, we had a great holiday!

The owner Cheryl was extremely helpful providing maps and details of local restaurants and activities before we left so we had no need to do any of our own research!. A car is a must and was cheap to hire at the airport. We easily found the River Cottage and were pleased to say it is very clean, maintained to a high standard and attractively modernly decorated. It has a large kitchen and was superbly appointed for all our self catering needs. It really feels like a home away from home with fantastic pillows and beds. It is such a spacious, large property that the 4 adults could all find a shady spot in private for mid afternoon snoozes in peace when needed or enjoy the pool and villa together without being on top of each other. We enjoyed easy day trips to the beaches in the Algarve and Silves using the picnic items thoughtfully provided at the villa, whilst benefiting from the serenity, peacefulness and quiet of the rural mountain setting. We enjoyed the ability to be a group on our own and to go out and about when we wanted more entertainment. Now all relaxed and bronzed and we plan to come again!.

Sometimes pictures don't live up to expectations but in this case, we think the pictures don't do it justice! We spent a week here, the villa is located in a quiet, rural area with plenty of scenic walks and wildlife to be seen on the river in front of the house. There's still plenty to do on the days that you don't feel like lounging by the gorgeous infinity splash pool. If you're feeling adventurous there's quad biking and horse-riding or go fishing like the locals. We spent a thoroughly enjoyable day at Zoomarine and the fabulous beaches of the Algarve are only 30 mins drive away. The villa is spotless and really well equipped, everything you could possibly need has been thought of in the kitchen and there's a super BBQ. If you don't feel like cooking, definitely take a trip to Guia, home of Peri Peri chicken and full of family-friendly restaurants packed with locals. More upmarket was 'Colina Verde' in Algoz - really gorgeous food and wine in a romantic garden setting - definitely leave the little ones at home for this one. We really enjoyed our stay at River House - it's a beautiful villa and everything has been done to a very high standard. Would definitely recommend!
