Stayed Jan 29, 2023Perfect for couples! The location and amenities are absolutely perfect as the property was located a short drive from the main road. Nearby Puerto Viejo was a frequent trip (5-10 min), several beaches, restaurants, and shops, were all within a similar range as well. It felt like paradise, especially with all the wildlife right outside your door. We were greeted by Toucans each morning. The plunge pool was very refreshing, and we loved the open concept of the kitchen/dining areas. We cannot wait to visit Costa Rica again!

Stayed Feb 12, 2022A very relaxing and comfortable stay. Close to Cocles (1 mile walk), a pleasant small town with good shops & reasonable restaurants. We just enjoyed relaxing in the beautiful private gardens by day and cooking in the (ok equipped) outdoor kitchen in the evenings. Nice beach walks and nature preserves nearby too.

Stayed Feb 20, 2019Our stay was absolutely lovely. We were able to be completely independent, even with the owner's home being on the same property, there was plenty of seclusion. The owners' son alerted us to a nest with baby hummingbirds and a sloth on the property, which we enjoyed visiting several times. Owners were very friendly but not obtrusive, they completely left us on our own other than stopping by to welcome us briefly on the night of our arrival and a few brief interactions - they even brought us fresh bread on our first morning. Here, you are surrounded by gorgeous, lush jungle flora and the most amazing sounds all day & night - toucans, howler monkeys (though we never saw one) and lots of wildlife. Strolling along the driveway alone was just stunning. We barely left the property except to go out for meals. The jungle is constantly dropping debris into the plunge pool but that's just how it is, it didn't bother us, and they have someone come every day to skim the pool and perform housekeeping, which exceeded our expectations. The home is extremely well built. The bedroom was spacious and romantic with a huge, separate closet/dressing area. The kitchen had all the basics. The living and kitchen area is completely open but stays dry even during the fantastic downpours we experienced each night. The bathroom had a big shower but no hot water, which is no problem for me but my husband couldn't handle it. The owner came and serviced the hot water heater but it only sent hot water to the kitchen sink. There is little that could improve on this vacation rental except for maybe a second hammock (or sofa) as the hammock wasn't big enough for two and I felt guilty enjoying it while my husband sat in a chair reading his book LOL, and maybe a couple more towels as things don't dry too quickly in the rainforest. We had asked the owner ahead of time if we could arrange for massages at home (I didn't want to invite anyone over without their approval) but they never followed up on that. After a few days, we discovered a folder with a bunch of info on things do, including a spa. You'll definitely want a 4x4 vehicle for the road and driveway, it's about a 10 min drive into Puerto Viejo - best meals we had were at Soda Lidia and breakfast at Bread & Chocolate. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this rental, our stay was stellar. These will be fond memories for a lifetime.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969Geckoes Lodge is absolutely stunning! We stayed seven nights in the one bedroom house, Casa Del Bosque. The Property: The houses are all set apart throughout the lush grounds of the property and you really do feel like you have the place all to yourselves. The landscaping is well cared for but not overly manicured with well placed and beautiful flowers, palms, and tropical trees surrounding the houses. This allows wildlife to be near the houses so you can see howler monkeys, birds and lizards from your patio. Tom and Zoe have managed to strike a wonderful balance between the sterility of some large resorts and the 'carved from the jungle' feel of some cheaper places. The house: The house was immaculate when we arrived. It has just enough space for two to be comfortable and cozy yet not on top of each other should you be rained in. There are hammocks hung for reading in, a comfortable couch and chairs and a dinning table in the living area. The kitchen has a gas cooktop, a full sized fridge and most of the cooking wares and utensils you would need to do about anything. One caveat is the lodge is not directly on the beach rather around 1 Km away so this is not the place for you if you just want to step out of your room and onto the sand. The advantage to this is you are not near the busy and noisy coastal road so you really are secluded and in the quiet of the jungle. I would recommend renting bikes, a scooter, or planning your day around the 30 minute walk into town. The Food: The great thing about having a kitchen on hand is not needing to eat out every meal. To that end, there are several markets in town with a pretty wide selection. We frequently bought fresh fish at Mopri's. There are also many good restaurants in town with an array of choices, we recommend Caribeans at Om Cafe, Lazlo's and Veronica's Cafe. Activities: We recommend the Chocolate tour at Caribeans, Zip-lining with Terradventures, and the Jaguar Rescue Center. All great fun.
