Come to this lovely restored 18th century farmhouse on Porto Ercole on the island of Argentario, the chicest coastal spot in Tuscany, convenient to so many interesting sites. This Villa offers 5 beautiful bedrooms, now all air-conditioned, in acres of olive groves, yet a walk to the beach. It offers divine trellised out door eating and gathering spots, for a gracious, summer outdoor lifestyle. For a fabulous Italian Beach holiday, Uliveto in Porto Ercole is it! If you are debating between a visit to Italy's historic cities and towns, like Rome, Florence and Siena, and taking a fabulous beach holiday with family or friends, here is the solution; you can have it all!
An Italian Artist and her New York Art and Antiques Dealer husband took on the restoration of her family's historic, three-story 18th century farmhouse on a magnificent Olive Estate to create the perfect family vacation home, the results are splendid. The house has original beautifully polished, terracotta floors, high ceilings and beautiful proportions. The villa sleeps 11 in 5 bedrooms, now all air-conditioned, plus a bed-sitting room suitable for a child. In addition to the Master bedroom, all other bedrooms may be made up as a king bed or as two twin beds. There are three bathrooms all with tub/showers, plus a half bath. The kitchen has everything that you could wish for! Dishwasher, microwave, full stove and oven, and plenty of room to cook great family meals. There is a large living room with fireplace for fall and winter evenings, a charming sitting room, plus upstairs den. There is also a separate dining room with antique table. And as you might expect, antique furnishings abound through-out.
This fashionable but incontestably comfortable restored 18 the century farm estate is a magical discovery for unforgettable vacations on one of Italy's most fashionable coastal resort town, Porto Ercole But this isn't just a beach town; Argentario's old castles, forts and Renaissance streets, speak with the voice of history that attracts us all to Italy. Porto Ercole, on Monte Argentario, a peninsula south of Grosseto in Tuscany, is full of Renaissance charm and history. Caravaggio, for instance, washed-up dead on Porto Ercole's shores 400 years ago. There are four historic forts which remind us of past wars and that the Spaniards held control in the 16th century, leaving their influence in the architecture and the people.
Itt is also a stylish resort whose ports play host to fabulous yachts and the jet-setters who fill it today. You will enjoy strolling the charming and active harbours, dotted with excellent seaside restaurants, cafes, bars, and gelaterias, and the incredible beaches and shores. You can rent a motorboat, or you can take the ferry to the charming island of Giglio just off the coast, where you can swim on pristine beaches, have a delicious lunch and stroll more historic streets of this Castle-Fort Island.
But your holiday doesn't stop here, because Porto Ercole is exquisitely located just over an hour to Siena and Arezzo, and less than 2 hours from Florence and Rome. When you have had enough sun and sea, just take a day trip to one of Tuscany's many treasures from your home away from home. This could be your holiday of a lifetime, or the place that you will decide to return to year after year.
Added to the indoor comforts, are what one most desires in a Mediterranean Holiday, and that is comfortable outdoor living. Under a wisteria-covered pergola there is plenty of casual outdoor seating with upholstered cushions and pillows, and not one but two dining tables and chairs to seat 14. If you are not looking for shade, there is a well furnished terrace, too, surrounded by cyprus, lavender and rosemary and at the end of the garden, a refreshing pool. The house comes with 12 hours of maid service per week. A cook is possible on request.

The property is an old Tuscan farmhouse with a difficult layout and extraordinary number of dangerous stairs. We had no idea that all the bedrooms were accessible only using old steep outdoor staircases that had no handrail. The property listing should make that clear. As a result, our stay was extremely for my husband and I as our group included an 84 year old parent and a toddler. It was a miracle we had no falls. The property is in dire need of updating. The flooring is largely bare concrete (which feels dirty), including in the bathrooms. We were expecting beautiful antique furniture but most of it looked very mundane and cheap. On the plus side, the beds were comfortable, the bedroom air conditioning units worked well. Fyi The mosquitos were terrible so take repellent. The outside area and garden is extremely pretty with wild flowers and citrus trees. The pool was unfortunately too cold to swim in and a very long walk from the house, but by mid July is probably warm enough to swim in until the end of August. The housekeeper and chef are very well meaning and basically competent but nothing special. They do not speak english. The property description on VRBO is out of date and inaccurate. The pricing needs adjusted dramatically. We were extremely disappointed that our friends all had much better villa rentals at lower prices. We were hoping to host a cocktail party at the house, but switched it to our friends’ villa instead as it was so much nicer.

This house is very beautiful and comfortable even without AC. We loved our stay and hope to return soon. The gardens and outdoor space are wonderful. Lots of privacy for guests given how the bedrooms are situated. Roberto the chef was a treat and Nina the housekeeper very helpful.

The pictures of this designer home do not do it justice. The layout is great for a large group, affording privacy for all. It is a great spot for a large group, with a wonderful outdoor covered patio for dinners with adjacent space for socializing and relaxing. the large yard has a nice pool for enjoying the countryside with a view to the sea. My favorite part was the dinners on the patio with the master chef Roberto. You can rent vespas down the street and take them around the hillside above the property and around town. The agent was very helpful in helping us arrange transportation, chef, train and other logistics

WOnderful house and wonderful area. The house is perfect for extended family vacation. THere are five spacious and well equipped bedrooms. Very comfortable beds and great bedding. House is super tastefully done. You will want to go home and redecorate your own home and buy lots of Italian linens! Beautiful pool. Roberto, the chef, is amazing. Nina, the housekeeper, is the best! So much to see and do in the area. Be sure to rent a boat and get out on the water!! You will not be disappointed here!

We had the most amazing and perfect 10 days at Uliveto! The house is absolutely beautiful - wonderful layout with plenty of space. The gardens and fields and pool are stunning...the flowers are so fragrant and all of the wisteria was in bloom when we were there which was such a treat! Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We were able to walk into town and absolutely loved Porto Ercole! I could have moved into Uliveto and we definitely hope to return!

A perfect place to call home in a classic Tuscan setting of Olive Trees. Ideal for a family reunion as 8 to 10 adults can have a comfortable time. Half way between Rome and Florence.

We had a wonderful stay at Uliveto. The house and grounds exceeded our very high expectations--the photos, lovely as they are, do not do the home, or the setting, justice. The house is very thoroughly and thoughtfully, and exceedingly tastefully, appointed. Marianne, the local property manager, couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating. Porto Ercole (I almost hesitate to say) was refreshingly void of tourists, at least when we were there.
