The space
Your Private Heritage Barn Escape

Morning light filters through the tall barn windows, casting a golden glow on polished heated cement floors. Once home to the family’s beloved horse, this exquisitely restored heritage barn now welcomes you into a world where rustic charm meets modern elegance — a place designed for slow mornings, luxurious afternoons, and nights under a canopy of stars.

Just beyond the barn doors, the village of Cobourg unfolds — a historic gem dating back to the late 1700s. Here, time seems to move more gently. Heritage homes line quiet, tree-shaded streets, and rolling hills stretch toward Lake Ontario’s shoreline. Wander to local boutiques for handcrafted treasures, pause for coffee in a cozy café, or explore nearby wineries and farm-to-table restaurants. In summer, the air hums with outdoor concerts and farmers’ markets; in winter, twinkling lights guide you to festive holiday markets.

Inside, every corner of the barn tells a story. Two beautifully appointed bedrooms, dressed in soft linens, offer restful retreats after the day’s adventures. The open-concept living and dining areas are furnished with elegant, high-quality pieces chosen as much for comfort as for style. The fully equipped kitchen, with its premium appliances and fine finishes, invites you to prepare everything from a lazy weekend brunch to a candlelit dinner.

Step outside, and you’ll find two private patios — one in front, perfect for your first cup of coffee as the village wakes; the other tucked away behind the barn, ideal for lingering over a glass of wine in the soft evening air.

A short drive from your door lies Ste. Anne’s Spa, a sanctuary of wellness and indulgence. Nestled in 400 acres of Northumberland countryside, this award-winning retreat is housed in a grand 1800s stone estate. Spend your day drifting between eucalyptus steam rooms, outdoor hydrotherapy pools, and cozy saunas. Choose from over 35 restorative treatments — from tension-melting massages to radiant skin therapies — and enjoy all-inclusive, chef-prepared gourmet meals. Stroll the manicured gardens, join a yoga or meditation class, or simply sit by the fire with a cup of herbal tea, letting the hours slip by.

When you return to the barn in the evening, the world feels quieter. Perhaps you’ll take a twilight walk along the waterfront trails, listening to the gentle lapping of the lake, or curl up inside with a book as the last light fades through the windows.

Here, history holds you in its warmth, the countryside invites you to slow down, and every detail — from the plush bedding to the scent of fresh air drifting in — is designed to make you feel at ease. Your heritage barn escape isn’t just a place to stay; it’s an experience to savor

My husband and mother-in-law travel to this property as a homebase while relocating. They couldn’t say enough about it. Great location and a beautiful home.

Lovely barn conversion, beautifully decorated. Could've been cleaner, to my standards, toilet seat upstairs needs attention (very loose)also the stairs, safety hazards. We had a great time other than that. Thanks Anne Marie

Property is beautiful, no doubt of that. It’s quiet and on the outskirts of town. Too far to walk to dinner or for coffee. They charge a cleaning fee so I was surprised to find dirty dishes in the dishwasher and someone else’s rubbish in the bin. Fridge also needs wiping out. The main issue though is the beds. Perhaps they ran out of money when it came time to buy beds and bedding, but new pillows are definitely in order as well as proper fitting bedding and beds. The beds are cobbled together frames, box springs and mattresses. Both beds are very high which won’t suit everyone. One bed is covered in a 3” thick down topper covered with a well worn very thin sheet that is too small so only goes halfway down the mattress and peels off when you move. So thin, you can feel the feathers poking you while you’re trying to sleep. But it’s far too soft. The other bed is very high and quite hard. Also ill fitting sheets. Sleep is the priority in a rental so put some cash into the bedding!
