Family Villa in Charming Avenue - Ponta Delgada Center

We have stayed in many rental properties around the world, and I've never written a poor review until now. But I just can't recommend this house. It is -- as it appears -- an architecturally interesting house, in a terrific location, with a delightful setting offering green views and outdoor space to enjoy (particularly handy with a 9 year-old boy in tow). But the level of accommodation does not match the high end offerings, nor the high price (for the area). The house is cold; there are insufficient blankets on the beds and no extra bedding; there is -- as others have said -- no proper storage space for clothes, and the lighting is poor. Things feel either old (not in a charming way) or very cheap (like below IKEA), and just sort of 'wrong' for the house. There are just no nice comforts offered, so you sort of feel like you're in a youth hostel in a big house with a beautiful garden. All that would be OK for a few days, but then the bathrooms started to smell -- a smell that the whole family noticed and that permeated throughout the house. If we'd been staying longer than 4 days it would have become a major problem for which I'd have called the manager. As it was, we left saying, Goodbye nice but weird and too-expensive house. So I can only agree with others who've said this place has potential, and I hope some day I'll see that someone has made it the house it deserves to be. But for now, I can't recommend: it's a luxury price (for the area) but not a luxury stay.

The house was let down by the bathroom facilities with only one working shower between four double rooms. The cubicle is far too small and the shower head incorrectly angled. The sitting and dining rooms were excellent as was the garden. The location was very good and there was plenty of parking. With only five in the house we were fine but if you had eight it would be difficult with one of the bedrooms being very small. Some small things such as hooks on bedroom doors to provide some hanging space would be useful. One of the bedrooms has appalling lighting. The house is very interesting architecturally.

Great location (close to the downtown, but quiet), beautiful gardens and a lovely home. Beatriz had left some snacks out for our arrival - very welcoming.
