Stayed Aug 5, 2023We had a wonderful week on St John and Over the Rainbow was a fantastic home to stay in. We loved the outdoor space. The views are gorgeous and there was always a breeze. The common room was comfortable for 6 adults. We prepared breakfast, lunch and few dinners with ease. The bedrooms are clean and had AC. As other reviews indicate, it is a further drive than other houses to beaches and town. It was fine for our family and made the trip feel more family oriented. I hope to come back!

Stayed Dec 31, 1969We spent the first week of August at Over The Rainbow and could not have been happier with the house. We wanted something that had an island feel, had a fantastic view and wasn't just like any other custom built vacation home. If you want stainless appliances, granite counter tops and top of the line furniture, then this place is not for you. That said, this house was perfect for us. The house was actually much nicer in person than in the photos. The layout was perfect for a family of four with two teenagers. The master bedroom/bath is separated from the main house & second bedroom so it's private, but not too far removed. The kids enjoyed having their own private area, too. The outdoor space was beautiful. We spent many happy hours under the gazebo overlooking Reef Bay. The pool was a nice and well maintained. The house is not air conditioned but that was never an issue. There are walls of screens on either side of the main living area so there was always a constant breeze throughout the house. The bugs were not an issue either so we never used the mosquito netting over the beds. We were a little nervous that the photos on the rental site did not show the kitchen but figured if it was that bad we'd just eat dinner out every night. We didn't have to worry. The kitchen is small but very well stocked. Actually stocked much better than some of the larger vacation homes we've rented in the past. We did cook in two nights and used the gas grill. The rest of the time we ate out (Longboard -- very good; High Tide -- too touristy and the food was NOT good; Joe's BBQ - awesome; The Tap Room - great food & beer; Sun Dog Cafe - good). We packed lunch for the beach many days, stopping by Sam and Jack's Deli for sandwiches. Highly recommend! If get a chance, find the pathway down to Reef Bay. There are no roads to it so you need to do a little hike (very easy and only about 5 minutes or so) We waited until the last day to investigate this beach but wish we would have done so sooner. It's so different than all of the other beaches on the island and gorgeous in its own way. Another great vacation in St. John. We would not hesitate to rent Over the Rainbow again on a future trip to the island.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969My wife and I have just returned from a great week at Over the Rainbow and since there hasn't been a review written for a while I thought I would post one. First of all, we are not perfectionists and we don't have to always have the hundred million dollar experience. That said, we loved the villa. It is great for a couple or two and some children might even be satisfied here because of the private pool. Money can't buy a more beautiful view, from either side. The pool is not huge but very refreshing and the surrounding deck is great with plenty of nice furniture and sun or shade and it is very private. It was pretty windy most of the week we were there but not a problem. The temps were very nice and only a few showers during the week. The villa is very comfortable and accommodating. We did not do a lot of cooking but it would seem that everything was provided. The villa is not air conditioned so if you are one of those who cannot do without, this is not the place for you. We did not have any trouble sleeping with the fans and breezes. Days were not a problem. We liked the location, about 10-15 minute drive from Cruz Bay, but very quiet and private. Driving on St. John is not for the faint of heart but I had no problem with my little Jeep and even my wife never complained. We drove all over the island. We rented our Jeep at the St. Thomas airport and came over on the car ferry. Our greeter was very nice and led us to the villa from the ferry and gave us the rundown on the villa. We ate at Jake's in the Lumberyard for breakfast (twice), Cruz Bay Landing (great hamburger) and Woody's (ok seafood, loud). We had great service at all and it was interesting to me that none of our waitressed were from the VI. We took the Reef Bay hike offered by the National Park but other than that we toured on our own. The owner has done a great job of furnishing everything you could need and I was impressed with his narrative in the villa book. It made our stay very personal and it is obvious that he is very proud of his villa and enjoys shari. The only thing I could hope for if I ever get to return would be a tv in the bedrooms. It is definitely not a big deal and I certainly didn't come to St. John to watch tv but we have gotten a little used to watching a little tv to fall asleep. Like I said earlier, if you must have something to do every minute, this is not the place for you. But if you want to relax in one of the most beautiful places this is it.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969This is my second year at this house. I love it. The view is stunning. It overlooks national park land so very private with no light pollution from either houses or other islands. No AC but u really don't need it with all the breezes. I will be staying here next year too if I can manage it. I do want to put in a plea for other guests to feed my adopted feral cat Rainbow. She is a brown tiger-striped cat and was emaciated when she first came crying at my door. You will recognize her because her tongue hangs out of her mouth and she drools a bit. I think she has had some kind of mouth injury. She can eat but looks awkward doing so. I've been fattening her up for two weeks now on canned and dry food. She has a tougher time with dry food but can eat it. Please continue to help her survive and also give money to the animal care center of St. John so they can continue their spay/neuter work. Rainbow, I hope you are still here when I come next year!
