Great Harbour Cay, Bahamas
Whether your ideal vacation consists of action packed days of watersports, relaxing on the beach, or taking a nap on a hammock under a palm tree, our beach front villa on Great Harbour Cay is the perfect destination.
Our double sized villa is steps away from the beach with unobstructed ocean views, and consists of a separate bedroom with two full beds, a loft with a queen size bed, a twin day bed, full kitchen, washer/dryer, and two full baths, accommodating up to 7 people. A pack and play can also be provided for the little ones.
The villa is equipped with a phone and wifi if you feel the need to remain connected to the rest of the world. We are also pet friendly. The layout is bright and airy, with a modern spa-like interior design by a renowned San Francisco designer.
One of the main reasons we, as well as our guests, love this place so much is that it is not at all touristy and is truly a tropical paradise destination. Escape the hotels, traffic, and noise of other more crowded islands. This makes it a little more complicated to get to our island home, but is certainly worth the effort. Some of the most commonly asked questions by renters are:
1. How do I get to your island
There is an airport on Great Harbour Cay, and is usually accessed either from Nassau or Florida.
If you fly into Nassau (NAS) there are two regularly scheduled flights each day on Le Air at 7:50am and 4:30pm from Nassau to Great Harbour Cay, returning from Great Harbour to Nassau at 8:20am and 5:00pm, and the flight is about 17 minutes. The flights are reliable and cost $140- $160 per person round trip.
Alternatively Le Air offers charters on their smaller plane that carries up to 5 passengers, and they charge $510 each way for up to 5 people. The advantage of their charter is that you can pick the times yourself.
The other option is to fly from Opa Locka Airport, which is about half way between Miami Airport and Ft. Lauderdale Airport to get a direct charter flight to Great Harbour. We have flown for over 15 years with Markus of Air Charter Miami and they are very safe and reliable. The flight is 45-50 min and carries up to 8 passengers.
If there are just 2-4 people, it may be more economical for you to fly through Ft. Lauderdale with Tropic Ocean Airways on their regularly scheduled flights on Fridays and Sundays, which cost about $614 per person round trip including taxes and fees:
Departure in FLL at 1:00 PM, arriving in Great Harbour at 1:50 PM
Departure from Great Harbour at 2:30 PM, arriving in FLL at 3:20 PM
We are happy to help coordinate flights for you.
2. Is there shopping on Great Harbour Cay
There are two grocery stores and a couple of liquor stores on the island. There are plenty of non perishables for sale on the island like drinks, bread, pasta, cereal, as well as milk, butter, etc. However we recommend that our renters purchase their fresh fruits and veggies as well as steak, chicken, and cold cuts either in Nassau or Florida (depending on where you fly from) and bring them with you on the plane. If you have at least a 3 hour layover in Nassau, we know a driver who can pick you up at the airport, take you grocery shopping, and then bring you back to the airport in time for your onward flight to Great Harbour.
3. Are there restaurants on the island
There are several good restaurants on the island, and some notable ones are-
Beach Club: about a 5 minute walk down the beach from our villa. They serve breakfast and lunch everyday and then sometimes on Fri and Sat they serve dinner too. Best cheeseburgers ever.
Coolie Mae's: Cute restaurant in town on a hill with great sunset views. Really good fish and conch.
Pool Bar: Open Air restaurant in the Marina. Great atmosphere with BBQ grilled steaks, chicken, and seafood.
Carrie Earl: A British couple runs the restaurant here and it is a really good mix of European and Bahamian food, with a great bar.
There is also a fun BBQ at the Marina every Friday night, as well as a themed dinner (Italian, Cuban, Creole, etc.) every Saturday night at the Tamboo restaurant next to the Marina.
There are several other small restaurants as well.
4. Do you have a coffee maker
Yes! We have a French Press as well as a Keurig single cup coffee maker. We have dozens of pods there for you that come in about 6-8 different flavors.
5. Do we need a car
You will find a car convenient if you do decide to venture away from the villas. Most things are within 2-3 miles. We can arrange a rental of a car or golf cart for you.
6. How do I get to your property
Our property manager Wally, who is somewhat of a celebrity on the island and is immediately loved by our guests, will pick you up at the airport and bring you to our property (less than 5 minute drive). He will also get you oriented as to where the shops and restaurants are located, and provide any local knowledge you desire. He also makes an amazing coconut milk drink!
Please note that we have two security cameras installed on the outside of the property- one facing each exterior door.

This was our third visit to Great Harbour Cay. We have stayed at a different unit each time so can offer some comparisons. The Island is beautiful and quiet. The beach is outstanding and usually pretty empty. The Beach Villas have a great location close to the airport and the Beach Club. This specific unit is beachfront and the deck has a beautiful view of the ocean. Hard to beat location-wise! The island is lovely and the locals are very friendly. The unit was overall quite comfortable, with good quality beds + linens, plenty of beach towels, 3 beach chairs, umbrellas and plenty of cooking essentials. A few things could be improved… The kitchen needs a bit of maintenance, as some of the drawers seem to be on the verge of falling apart. The unit does not have a dishwasher, and some of the utensils/dishes were not well washed. The A/C on the main living area had a really hard time cooling down the unit. After 2 days of continuous running, the unit cooled down enough, but our first day, the temperature was in the mid 80s inside even with air at full blast. Overall, we had a great time and the unit served its purpose quite well. The location, great deck, and comfortable beds delivered the key elements of a great family weekend.
Great location, the most beautiful beach we’ve ever seen. Beautiful white sand and gin clear water. Great communication with host.
Excellent time! The apartment was in great shape, lots of amenities.. towels, sheets, soaps, cooking supplies, spices etc.. Barbeque worked great. The location is amazing, on a beautiful mostly deserted beach. Airport is across the street, a beach bar down the beach. The wrap around porch worked great for a bbq and hammock. Communication with Host and the housekeeper was quick and easy. Only comment is there is no umbrella for outside lunch table and kayak was not seaworthy. Other than that we are planning our next trip back there!
GHC and the Beach Villas exceeded our expectations. The location is phenomenal. Hospitality is above and beyond. CONS of property: - property is a bit more dated than the pics show - lots of “junk” in cabinets - one toilet was on the fritz - beach chairs were broken (except two) - kayaks were not sea worthy But with a solid cleaning this place could be the best vacation spot ever. PROS - comfy beds - literally on the beach- location makes up for any shortcomings on the property - Christine/Wally are very helpful - away from hustle and bustle- so private and only saw a handful of people on the beach. - gorgeous beach with soft sand and beautiful water
The location and beach of this property can't be beat. Honestly, the most stunning beach, water, sunset you can imagine. However, some things to note: It's not as private as you might think, you have neighbors on either side. Ours happen to be quite nice & friendly. Note, the power goes out nearly everyday (nothing the owner can do, just go with it) and we have a circuit breaker issue. You won't really be able to get cell service to make local calls for dinner reservations, etc. We didn't have access to the bikes, the kayaks or the umbrella on the porch- all were broken and unusable which was a shame. The broken umbrella was unfortunate, as we wanted the shade from the sun during the day. There are plenty of beach games to use, beach towels and linens. The villa was clean and perfectly fine for 4 people. Christine was very nice & helpful with our rental car and taking us to the little market. We were fortunate to see a lot of wildlife that added to our adventure. The island of Great Harbour Cay is beautiful with very friendly people, just a few disappointments with ammenities. Overall, a good trip.
Darin’s place is located on one of the most gorgeous beaches in the Bahamas (and we’ve travelled extensively to the Out Islands) - with long walks in either direction. So the toughest decision of each day was whether to turn left or right on the beach. It was great to have the Beach Club within an easy 10 minute stroll along the beach - they serve great snack food for breakfast and lunch, which is perfect as the island stores have very limited fresh food available. Darin responded very quickly to any queries both in the run up to, and during our trip. Christine who looks after the place was a superstar, meeting us at the airport and taking us over to the grocery store to stock up in provisions. We would happily recommend here to anyone who loves peace and tranquility. If you’re looking for parties and nightlife, then Great Harbour Cay really isn’t for you. We will definitely be returning. Thank you Darin for sharing your little piece of paradise.
Such a cute place. Well equipped and in the middle of paradise.
Beautiful property in the perfect location on a low key island with the most friendly residents. We enjoyed our laid back vacation very much!
We can’t wait to go back to Darin’s place! The unit is right on the beautiful beach and is conveniently located by the airport and Beach Club. Darin is easy to communicate with and very accommodating. The unit is comfortable, we slept great. There are also games, books and puzzles in the unit. (Our son loved the pick-up stick set!) Thanks for making our visit for our 4 year olds birthday a memorable one!
The condo overlooks the amazing beautiful beach. You feel cozy at home- all the supplies you could need are at the condo- from beach towels and chairs to hairdryers to pans. Thanks for the great stay! The Beach Club and Hammerheads are the two main good places for good. Recommend renting a car that the housekeeper can hook you up with. Enjoy the beautiful beaches!
