Everything was great!
I am afraid that this amazing location will be discovered and in a few years it will be simply overrun and overpriced. In summary: there is simply no better location on Mainland Abaco. If you love fancy resorts, this place might not be your thing. But if you want a quiet escape, no neighbors, ideal private beach right outside your bedroom - this secluded spot is a hidden treasure. Our recent stay here spoils all other beaches and beach-adjacent properties for me. With plenty of sun you can chill by the water or explore nearby nature. Included were mint condition kayaks, SUP, snorkel gear, and fishing stuff, which is awesome. Wifi & Fire Pit for quiet late nights outdoors. The house is unique and cozy, with cool decorations and a descent kitchen. You'll need a rental car because nothin will be walkind sitance. But 15 minutes from downtown Marsh Harbor. Road is gravel for the last few hundred feet, so you know you are in the jungle! But it's worth it for the peace and beauty at the end. Our local host, was super helpful and friendly. In short, if you want a simple family getaway with peace, quiet, sun, and water fun, this place is great. It's not super fancy, but it's a unique spot to connect with nature and family. If you have spent any time camping or RV-ing this place will seem like a luxury accomodations. We loved it and want to come back soon, hopefully it will be left just the same for us for next time.
We stayed for the week and weekend of the 4th of July and we can’t speak more highly of the house and especially it’s care takers. We arrived on 32 foot boat after traveling through the Bahamas for a month, we anchored it in front of the property for the stay and had no problems with strong anchors. The house on the other end was absolutely great, besides the private beach, where you can sit in the sun, or snorkel out on a kayak adventure and sea tons of reef fish and lobster. The interior of the house was perfect for 4-6 people with a great fully stocked kitchen, spacious living room and absolutely great balcony too watch the sunset, and fireworks (if you stay on the 4th). Down stairs is a great spot for kids or young adults as they have their own space. However how great the interior is the exterior is what makes it worth it’s money in gold. Throughout our stay my family and friends continue too not comprehend how I found such a “private piece of paradise” for such a great price. While it may be somewhat of trip from downtown marsh harbor it’s well worth the trip, as any taxi or rental car can make it there no problem. This house is A class from the location too the views as it serves as almost its own private resort, but what makes the stay so worthwhile is the people who y’all meet along the way especially the caretakers. Victoria and her husband were awesome as they asked more like your friends than the properties proprietors.
This is a picturesque property in a quiet location with all you need for rest and relaxation. It has its own rustic style partly by design and partly as a reaction to its location. Having a private beach is such a treat and the addition of the kayaks and SUPB makes it a self reliant retreat. You will need your own transportation for this property as it’s remote and on an unpaved road. It was perfect for us to recharge in a slow moving environment dominated by spectacular views and the rhythm of the tides.
At Once - is a home where the family is welcoming you into their space. The beach out front is all yours. It has space which allows you to enjoy me time. Victoria the caretaker and her husband EJ are very knowledgeable, so ask questions. EJ was born and raised in Abaco. Once there, you will be greeted in the morning or late afternoon/evening (we were formulate that Shaggy hang out with us lots) from Shaggy, local resident happy dog. Please make sure you leave out water and food. Shaggy is extremally friendly, and loves everyone. It was very hard to say goodbye to this amazing happy pup after 2 weeks. Make sure you take the kayaks out, head to the left and you will find a large freighter that was pushed ashore after the hurricane. If your looking for an island tour, you need Tanique, owner of Abaco Tours and Activities. She will create a tour or you can do what we did and create your own. Parrots are best seen early morning. Fox town at north of island is the end of the road and you can take a ferry to Freeport. We just enjoyed the beautiful small beach and local bar where we grabbed something to eat and a beer. South end of the island, end of the road, check out Nancy's restaurant and bar and hang out on the beach. We were the only ones there and saw stingrays, star fish and birds. Make sure you go check out Pete's gallery and pub. We made friends with local artists and had a blast learning about bronze sculpturing. Please check out the local business while on the island. Like the bakery at Treasure caye, best cinnamon rolls on the island. Treasure caye has a ferry that will take you to Green Turtle Caye. Yes, you need a golf cart, and check out some of the best beaches in the world. There is a small bar at north of the island and to get there, the dirt road is pretty beat up, but worth the trip. Take ferry to Hopetown for the afternoon. Rent bikes, like we did or golf cart. Check out the lighthouse and museum. If you are an animal lover (like us) then contact the animal shelter in Marsh Harbor. Lots of dogs were displaced after the hurricane. They need our help. Abaco Neem Farm is a great local organic business along with Abaco Big Bird Family Farm. The island is rebuilding and they are a strong community. We loved our time at At Once and the whole island. We made lasting memories with locals and local happy dog Shaggy. So go check out Abaco Island and stay awhile, you will not be disappointed at all! Cheers!
