Bring toys! You can kayak, sail, fish, ride bikes, waterski, jet ski, tube, or visit the sandbar that stretches out a few hundred yards from the shore. Relax on the private stretch of beach where you won't see a soul.
If you have a boat, a community ramp in a tidal inlet is only 100 yards away. Or you can use the free, full-service, public boat ramp/marina in Cape Charles. Then drive your boat around to Smith Beach and tie up on one of our pilings. Lots to do or just relax!
There are many spots to enjoy the views, breezes and sunshine. Take a cooler and chair down to the beach and relax on the sand with the bay lapping at your feet. At sunset, sit on our aloha deck overhanging the bluff to take in the gorgeous colors as the sun retreats for another day. You can also lounge on the house-side deck while you put some shrimp on the grill from one of the local seafood markets. If you need a break from the sun or want to make the most of the cooling breezes, perch on the porch--morning, noon or night it's a lovely spot.
Beyond the beach, there are dunes to hike nearby, antiquing, kayak excursions, charter boats, fishing and more. There are also a number of dining options within 15 minutes: Mexican, Southern cooking, seafood, Pub fare, pizza, coffee house/cafe, Chinese carry-out and diners. You can also get seafood from the local seafood market, or prime meats from the local butcher and fix yourself a gourmet meal while you enjoy the views. For your convenience there is a Food Lion, Dollar Store, ABC liquor store and pharmacy nearby.
The house was great and having a private beach was amazing. The view of the ocean and sunset was wonderful! Ms. Jennifer was a great host, as well.
We’ve stayed here before and just like before, had a wonderful time. The house and private beach were just what we needed.
We had an amazing spring break vacation in baywatch. The sunsets were amazing every single day. The stars were abundant. The preteen was even happy most days. The kids best memories were kayaking to the sandbar and golf carting in Cape Charles.
We really liked the private beach for the little kids. Taking the kayaks out to the sandbar in the morning was good for exploring. Would recommend to anyone with children.
We had such a lovely time visiting Smith beach. The house was clean and in a wonderful spot. We enjoyed all that the bay had to offer as well as exploring a new to us area and the cute little town of Cape Charles. The sand bar made this a perfect place for relaxation, finding shells and exploration. This place is a gem.
Lovely relaxing bay front spot! We enjoyed going out to the sandbar and about a 10 min drive to Cape Charles. It is secluded and very private!
We all just needed to get away for a few days and found that peaceful experience here. There is a small town nearby, so you don’t feel like you’re totally off the grid. The house, yard, deck, and spot of sand was everything we needed.
I’ve stayed in multiple VRBO rentals through the years. I was very disappointed in this property. I received an email a week or less before arrival instructing me not to open the windows as the screens were damaged this past WINTER. Upon arrival, the screens are so distorted in EVERY window that the beautiful view that you see in the photos and are PAYING for is distorted and non-existent. There is nowhere to put your food. The owners have a lock on the door in the photos that a renter would deem a pantry.. so with Covid and driving 10 hours with a weeks worth of food… you have no place to put it. All the furniture is uncomfortable, all the beds, chairs, sofas. Everything! We had stayed in Onancock for a week the month before and will be returning next year. We will be saving our money and not returning to this location!
To start with the positives, this property has a wonderful private beach. It's hard to beat that. However, the house needs quite a lot of TLC. There are many things that are broken--the direct door to the beach, the screens on the windows (don't open them!), the shower door (it's about to break, be very careful with it!). But instead of fixing these things, the host just tells you not to use them. This was quite a bummer and put an unnecessary damper on the trip. It would have been lovely to open the windows and hear the waves or actually have a clear view out the windows to the bay, but alas, this host doesn't put a ton of effort into maintaining the property. Overall, we did have a wonderful time in this property's private beach, but we felt very unwelcome in the house...like having paying guests was something the owners were suffering through in order to afford their vacation home. There was nothing to make us feel welcome, just a bunch of uncomfortable furniture, beds like rocks, mishmash of random things the owners likely didn't want in their primary residence anymore, but nothing to suggest we were welcome guests. Will we book this house again? Definitely not. Would we recommend it? Maybe, but only if you can't find another private beach property that you can afford.
This property was amazing!!!!!! Our impression of the property was even better in person than in the pictures. The sunsets are just incredible from the beach or deck or house. When they mention a private beach, it is really a private beach. We saw some other folks maybe a couple hundred yards away but it is really your own private beach on the Bay. The water in the bay was warm, shallow and gentle. I would 1000% come back to stay here for another vacation again in the future. The owner was responsive with any questions we had. I highly recommend staying at this property.
