Thomas, West Virginia
Welcome to Westwood, a very private mountain getaway about a mile outside of Thomas, WV in the historic area of Coketon, WV. Perched a mile above the Blackwater Canyon, on two plus acres, it also borders the Western Pocahontas property, some 68,000 acres of Wild West Va. A very private location adds to the aesthetics all while being close to the Thomas town center. The 2 1/2 bedroom, 2 full bath house sleeps up to eight people and has a great deck overlooking the "Moors" as well as a front porch overlooking Snyder Run. Hiking, Biking, Cross country skiing are just a few of the activities available from one of the best locations in the area. The Blackwater Canyon Trail is at the bottom of the hill, go right to Douglas Falls and left 3/4 mile into Thomas. If you are a Mt. Top Hunting Club member, hunting ,fishing and ATV enthusiast have it all at your backdoor, with miles of trails right off the property.
The house is in a wonderful location - private yet close to a few small towns and central to great hiking/state parks. House is comfortable for a family, dog friendly, and kitchen is well-stocked. Back patio (with gas grill) beautiful spot for dinners, and large lawn for playing games. We plan to come back!
We stayed here for 2 nights and had a lovely stay. Rex was a pleasure to work with. We enjoyed playing games and CDs. We ate at the Mountain State Brewing Company and the Smokehouse at Blackwater Falls. Would recommend both. We were in the area to do the sled run but would have been content to relax at the house all weekend with the winter storm. It was beautiful.
Home was exactly as advertised. Well equipped, cozy, and comfortable! Great location for our hunting trip. We will be back!
We really enjoyed our stay at Westwood. The house is located on an exceptional piece of property. I have never seen such beautiful, fall foliage. And it’s a very easy walk to town along a rail trail path. Our dog enjoyed exploring the adjoining meadows and we enjoyed looking at the stars from the deck. Wonderful memories.
Very nice area to get away and scenery was beautiful.
We loved our stay here. The house was exactly as advertised and perfectly quiet, despite being pretty close to the town of Thomas. Thomas itself is close to a bunch of fantastic hiking locations, including Douglas Falls, Blackwater Falls State Park, the Dolly Sods, Seneca Rocks and more. If you're into fishing, you're also close to some great trout waters. The night sky is pretty awesome in these parts, too. Highly recommend.
Great property with access to all there is to see. Very private and has all the comforts of a home. Slice of heaven surrounded by national forest. Many thanks to the host for the opportunity to stay at the house.
Beautiful property, great house. We’d definitely say here again.
Loved this location and house! It had a real country charm that many in the Canaan Valley area lack. Great side yard for sitting out although a week of rain limited us. Enjoyed the well stocked kitchen for cooking and relaxing by the fire place of those rainy days. The location puts you close to everything the area has to offer; Thomas, Davis, Dolly Sods, and the Canaan Valley. Even Seneca Rocks and Smoke Hole Caverns were only short rides away. Thanks Rex! We hope to make this home base on our next stay!
We enjoyed our stay there if you want to get away from the busy life of the city this is the place for you
We were in the area for a family event and stayed the weekend. Nice property away from it all. Enjoyed the much needed peace and quiet. Would definitely stay here again.
Beautiful, private get away. Very nice provisions, with many homey considerations.
The house was pleasant to stay in. We had a nice fire. The kitchen was well stocked. We enjoyed visiting waterfalls and skiing at Timberline. It was a really good experience.
we have been to Canaan area many times and this place has been our favorite place. Close to Thomas, yet secluded and private. Can't wait to go back in the summer.
Comfortable getaway in the mountains with everything you need :)
Got to spend a whole month at this big, comfy house. The owners have linens (plenty) and decor that make it homey and pleasant, and they've thought of just about everything you could need for the kitchen. The location is great--feels remote, yet so close to the sweet town of Thomas. There's easy and interesting walking almost right out the door, along the Blackwater Canyon rail trail. Rex is communicative and responsive, without being intrusive. In winter you'll need 4WD for the short, steep hill near the house; the road is sometimes plowed days after it snows. There are a few very minor repairs the owner is taking care of, and the old, rumbly furnace is slated for replacement. Definitely worth it to stay here!
The cabin is located in the area that combines the privacy of a secluded hideout in the middle of WV mountains and the convenience of cute little shops and restaurants in the nearby towns of Thomas and Davis all within minor driving distance. The property was exactly as advertised, with all the amenities to make your family trip enjoyable, to include the furry members! The kitchen was fully stocked with all you can want/need, and the entire collection of cookware was in such a great shape, which made cooking in the kitchen a breeze. Attention to detail was evident everywhere in the cabin, to ensure guests can relax and enjoy what the property and its surrounding had to offer. The cabin had very welcoming atmosphere for our family dogs, too. A mud room with varying sizes of bowls ready for use, welcoming couches with dog covers to a plushy dog bed laid out by the bed in the master bedroom, they all made it very obvious that the owner had the comfort of the furry guests in mind as well, which was very appreciated. Rex was always kind and responsive to us from the booking to through the end of our stay. He even prepared plenty of firewood for us to use during our stay. The weather was rather warm so I didn’t get to experience the wonderful buck stove in the cabin’s family room with the fire wood, but we were very appreciative for his kindness. We like his CD and DVD collections, too! A lot of great features to this country side gem!!!! Highly recommend the place!
Lovely place, fabulous location, super pet friendly. There were a lot of features we did not have occasion to take advantage of but hope to in future, when it is warmer, such as the deck.
Excellent accommodation for everyone including my dog. Dog friendly! Comfortable beds and furniture. Great private location. Wildlife everywhere!
Loved the property- quiet, clean, great place to unwind. Rex was a great, responsive host. A+ experience!
