Westhampton Beach, New York
This warm summer home faces east over Quantuck Bay in the quiet hamlet named Quiogue between Westhampton and Quogue. This neighborhood was once home to the Immaculate Conception convent and this is the main house in a compound still held by the same family for six generations.
Great fishing, charming shops, decent vineyards, amazing fresh local produce, an LIRR train station and a vibrant town are all nearby. Perhaps best of all, it is five minutes to ocean beaches which are as beautiful as anything on the East coast.
There is a dock for your shallow draft boat and a small private beach for your wind surfer or kayak on this three acre property. There are crab nets and fishing poles and old bicycles and good books and cribbage boards and lovely neighbors and yes, dogs are more than welcome. The tennis court, which was built in 1876, beckons, “Come out and play.” Beautiful custom made stationary wooden benches under an oak tree overlook the three acre property. It is quiet and peaceful here.
Save yourselves an hour and a half of bumper to bumper driving; it’s just as nice here as east of the canal for less money. If you want to give your kids the quintessential summer at the shore, this is it.
Close to beach and town. Quintessential WHB setting with beautiful views, comfortable beds and well equipped for large dinner parties and sports activities. Will definitely come back!
Very relaxing and quaint house overlooking the water with a dock, tennis and plenty of space. This is an old house, with a lot of character, it you will need to treat with care and understand it’s not a modern place (this is a plus for me). Bud is great, and worked hard to make sure everything was in order and answer any questions. Good for kids, but probably children older than toddler due to water, steps and such. Highly recommended if you are looking for a place to relax, boat, fish and enjoy the location.
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Bud’s lovely home. The screened in porch overlooking the bay was the perfect way to start and end our days. The house was perfectly clean and well appointed with beautiful sheets and towels. Bud was a gracious and warm host, making my husband and I feel most welcomed. We cannot recommend this home enough! We will definitely be back.
This is undoubtably the most special residence on all of Long Island. Bud’s house has been in his family for six generations, and you can see why they’ve made sure never to let it go. The acres of land gave our dog and child inhabitants ample room to roam. The house faces on one side a historic tennis court and on the other a gorgeous bay. The bay hosts geese, swans, boats, and an assortment of birds and fish we couldn’t begin to identify-but did our best to enjoy. We easily biked to the beach in 10 minutes and to a nature preserve the other direction in even less than 10. Bud is a gem himself - full of knowledge about the area, friends with a neighbor who offered freshly laid eggs in exchange for tools, took one of our bikes along with his to the shop when we had a flat, and joined us for laughs and chats. We felt like we were joining a special family while we were there, not just renting from a nearby landlord. It was an absolute dream - one we wish to relive as often as we can monopolize the space! We were the earliest renters Bud has had so nights were a bit chilly, which let us take advantage of the fire place! The only caveat we’d offer - and let’s be clear that this didn’t deter us for a second from asking Bud if we could return in the fall - was a small army of ants that trickled into the kitchen and a larger sized ant species that seems to enjoy the upstairs. So if you want pristine luxury, get a fortified palace. If you want a rustic and incredible respite, filled with charm and history, kept up by the greatest host we could have imagine - there is no better option.
We could not have asked for a better vacation. Bud is an incredible host and he made everything so easy. The tennis court is spectacular and Bud himself was a great tennis partner. The house is exactly as the pictures show...we loved the screened in porch, the fire place for the chilly June nights, the outdoor shower and, of course, the views of the bay.
We are family group of nine and have stayed at a number of properties together around the the northeast. This was the BEST! The house, the location, the character, everything! And the tennis court, the tennis court... 50 ft from the house! We are all players and this week was a gem !
The host was always helpful, caring, entertaining, lives nearby so readily available. The best beaches nearby, terrific tennis court; the house is so much more fun than the typical boring cookie cutter rentals, kids loved it. Kitchen well outfitted, comfortable beds, plenty of towels for house and beach. We really enjoyed our stay enormously, family - 6 adults, 2 teens and a 7 and 10 yr. old.
We had the best week of our summer at this beautiful Quiogue house, following our niece's wedding in Connecticut. It was a painless 2 hour trip from Greenwich and just 1:20 back to JFK at the end. Visiting the first Hampton is a traffic advantage. We loved it so much, we are booking again for 2019. Bud is a tremendous host, and made our arrangements efficiently and has a comprehensive file to help guests find all the great places to visit in the area. The local beaches are the best, but Greenport (oyster heaven!) and Sag Harbour (a great walking village) are great visits too. But you don't have to leave the expansive property to be fully contented. The beautifully renovated classic cottage absorbed our 11 family members easily. It was charming and perfect! The house was set up perfectly with linens and towels for use at both the house and the beach, and basic provisions. The outdoor shower has a sweeping view of the Quantuck Creek and Bay. The daybeds in two of the double bedrooms added capacity. The home has beautiful bones and was constructed in the late 1800s. It has survived all the aggressive weather the beach properties bear, with grace. We loved waking up to the audible rumble of the ocean across the bay. The location of this home is extraordinary. Even in the context of the many beautiful homes and locations in the Hamptons. It is both secluded and incredibly private, but a short bike ride or drive to Westhampton village and the world famous beaches. Everyone had a complete blast floating in the beautiful Gulf Stream fed waters. The screened porch faces near due east providing classic bay views of morning sunrises and soft evening light. It's great for lunch and afternoon cocktails. The House flows and provides multiple nooks for privacy, reading, reflection and when required a grand dining area for larger gatherings with family and friends. The kitchen has a wide footprint and been fully redone and allows for those special vacation moments when the family and friends can bond around food preparation and full sit down meals. The tennis court is my favorite court in the world and I have played on a couple nice ones including Centre Court at Forest Hills. ! The court footprint dates from 1884. and you can feel all the special tennis that has been played on it! Our only regret is to be so far away, so that we are challenged to visit Quiogue as much as we would like (like every weekend!).
We spent two weeks at this lovely home on the bay. Clean, charming and well appointed. My family and I had a wonderful time and would surely come back.
