Built in 2004, the house is on the sunny northern side of Chalk Pond, a pristine, 21-acre lake in Newbury, NH. Enjoy the waterside from your private floating dock with fishing (NH license required age 16+) and swimming, or canoe/kayak over to the tiny island in the middle of the Pond. No powered craft are allowed on Chalk Pond; one full-size canoe, two single kayaks and life jackets are provided with the house. You also have access to the homeowner's association private sandy beach, basketball court, tennis courts and newly updated playground.

It's a close-up look at the house that's just like being there. I apologize in advance for my shaky camera work.
Enjoy the beauty of nature without leaving the yard: listing photos show the turtles, chipmunks and duck families that visit daily. From the dock, watching the movement of the ever-changing water and its light reflected in a canopy of trees is mesmerizing and restful. From our front door, it's a five minute walk to the Stoney Brook Wildlife Sanctuary, where you can hike two different trails through a beautiful 362-acre preserve. Watch for moose, deer, flying squirrels, even porcupines! Take a 15-minute drive to Mt. Sunapee Harbor, Mt. Sunapee Ski Resort, or the quaint town of New London which has great shopping, restaurants and a summer stock theater.
Central air conditioning keeps everyone comfy all summer long. The master bedroom has a queen bed and private deck, the second bedroom has one twin and one full bed. The downstairs den has a TV and queen futon. The full deck off the living room offers a tranquil view of the water and features deck furniture and a gas grill. Finished walk-out basement has two futon chairs and TV; great place for kids and teens to hang out.
Wood paneling, hand-painted stencils, wall quilts and country decor give the house a comfortable, rustic feel. It's scrupulously clean and complimented by modern conveniences not all cottages have: completely equipped kitchen with brand-new appliances, dishwasher, two full baths, full-sized new washer and dryer and Wi-Fi access, internet speed has been upgraded to be the fastest available in the area. We provide off-street parking for up to 3 cars: Newbury strictly prohibits on-street parking in front of the house at any time. To read our positive guest reviews, scroll down on this page. In high season (mid-June to Labor Day) house rents full weeks only, Saturday to Saturday. Please review house amenities and rules for a full picture of our well-appointed, waiting for YOU, home.
From warm summer days and cool summer nights to spectacular fall foliage and crystal clear water, let our home at Chalk Pond be your choice for a restful getaway.
Please note that for Fall 2024, the seasonal floating dock will be removed after Columbus Day weekend and will not be put back in the Pond until the following spring. (Waited too long one year and an early cold snap found us chopping the dock out of the iced-over Pond, yikes!) Guests staying after that date can still launch kayaks and canoe from our waterfront.

This property at Chalk Pond is immaculate, extremely well maintained and organized. It is a wonderful peaceful place, a true get away to enjoy the beautiful setting by kayaking or canoeing on the pond, taking walks around the pond, or just hanging out on the dock. Kitchen has everything one needs for a week's stay, and entertainment center has all the streaming services that one may want. Very hard to leave once the week comes to an end!. The owner is extremely responsive, communicative, and friendly. The cottage is just up the road from quaint Newbury Harbor, where Bubba's Restaurant offers nice fare with a great view of Lake Sunapee. Its also a short ride to New London where there are several restaurants to check out. The one and only (minor) comment is that to get the kayaks or canoe into the water (other than climbing down into them from the dock which can be difficult for some folks), one has to carry them over a muddy/rooty area by the side of the dock which can be slippery. Would highly recommend this property for anyone wanting a quiet peaceful get away in a neat, clean well organized setting.
This cottage is lovely. Very clean and comfortable, with a view of the Pond and two decks on which to take in the view. We enjoyed kayaking on the Pond and walks around it. A perfect place to relax in a well equipped cottage.
It is a lovely home right on the water. It had everything we needed. It was so nice to be able to look out on Chalk pond from the several balconies. Having access to the boats and boards was a real treat! Our boys especially enjoyed being able to paddle over to the beach. It was also close to Sunapee's attractions. The owners were so helpful leading up to our stay and communication was easy and so friendly!
We particularly enjoyed the quiet of no-motorboat Chalk Pond, used the cottage canoe and fished there. Put in our own kayaks in nearby Lake Sunapee a couple of times. Cottage is clean and well-equipped, and very private. There are many steps between your car and the pond. Not an issue for us but could be for some. Recommend the Flying Goose Brew Pub, great brews, food and views!
The house on Chalk Pond was perfect for the quiet getaway my husband and I were seeking. The pictures are a perfect representation of what the tenant will find upon arrival- a spacious house with a full size kitchen equipped with everything a cook might want (minus a wooden salad bowl and salad spinner- neither of which any one else might miss), a dock that stretches into the water and on which one can find sunshine throughout the day, two narrow decks outside the living room and master bedroom overlooking the pond that are perfect for a cocktail or grabbing a lunch, and two kayaks and a canoe if one wants to explore the small but very clean and swimmable lake. Chalk Pond is quiet and the house feels totally private. There are no motor boats or jet skis to distract from the pleasure of just sitting and enjoying the views. The house had everything, including a full size washer and dryer and dishwasher. Marybeth's kitchen and terrific outdoor grill made it easy to dash off delicious meals. As we were just the two of us, we only used the master bedroom which was comfortable, spacious and sunfilled in the morning. There are 2 TV's on the main floor which actually came in handy once or twice. Marybeth was a wonderful owner, friendly and responsive when I emailed her with a concern about the property (we had not turned off the gas grill properly and were confused with a strange smell which went away instantly when we closed the valves on the tank.) (Our fault!) I'm a lap swimmer and was able to swim right off the dock, though others might prefer walking into the water from the asssociation beach which is a 5 minute walk . The Sunapee Lakes area is a long time favorite of ours and it was wonderful to enjoy this beautiful region in our very own home for the week. For the price, this is a five star property and will provide a warm and welcome and comfortable place to which to come home.
The house was located on a nice area of the pond with privacy and lots of sun. It was nice to have beach towels, floats for the pond and kayaks and a canoe to enjoy. The owner was also very helpful.
We had the best week ever! The house had everything we needed as far as kitchen items, linens, towels (including beach towels!), and cleaning supplies. The views from the decks were beautiful and a great place to have your morning beverage. A family of ducks would make its way back and forth a few times a day, adding a bit of wildlife to the view. The pond was great for kayaking and canoeing (provided) - it is a plus that there are no motorized boats allowed on the pond. Marybeth was a super host - from warning me about pesky New England black flies ahead of time to working with temperamental e-mails getting a last-minute reservation complete. I would definitely look for this house again should the need arise.
If you're looking for a beautiful house, a great view and a quiet place to relax, than this is the place for you. The house is gorgeous. We were a party of 3 and we had more room than we knew what to do with. There is a water view from just about every room. Everything we needed was provided (sheets, towels, all the little comforts of home) First time I rented someone else's home and felt at home myself. Homeowner is super friendly too. Looking forward to staying here again.
This is a very well maintained and well cared for cottage. Has all the home appliances, cooking tools, water toys, and closet/storage space that you could need. Beautiful woodland and pond views and direct access (waterfront) to Chalk Pond. Conveniently located as well (always about 10-20 minutes from everything you desire-- skiing or hiking at Mount Sunapee, hiking Mount Kearsarge, swimming or sailing at Newbury Harbor or Dewey Beach, and all the shops and restaurants in New London. Chalk Pond is nice and quiet with great amenities within walking/canoeing/kyacking distance. We hope to return to this fun getaway sometime soon!
My husband and I have rented vacation homes in many different areas for years. He and I agreed this is one of our favorites. Everything was spotless, comfortable and many considerate touches. We enjoyed the pond and I was thrilled to catch my first fish. We had a great time!
