Newbury, New Hampshire
Travel through three acres on a winding private driveway lined with white birch and stone walls to begin your Whistle Hill adventure. This luxury ski house with sweeping lakefront and mountain views has floor-to-ceiling windows, letting you enjoy the full splendor of the region whether inside or out. Whistle Hill is five minutes from Sunapee ski mountain, which boasts 66 trails, 233 acres of skiable terrain, and a 2,753 foot elevation. There are ten lifts, easy ticketing and rentals, and five restaurants and pubs. Since 97% of the mountain's terrain has snowmaking capability, the conditions are always good at Sunapee. The mountain has been recognized for the best snowmaking and grooming in the northeast, eliminating house rental risks that arise when mountain conditions are dependent on the weather. This ski location is also centrally located to many of the top ski resorts in New England for day trips to other large mountains in NH, VT and Maine.
After a full day of leaf peeping or hiking, skiing or snowboarding, or shopping quaint New England towns, settle in with family and friends in the large, bright, open floor plan with dramatic natural scenery and roaring fireplaces. Whistle Hill is perched on a rugged hillside and set on the eastern shore of Lake Sunapee, so you can marvel at extraordinary sunsets from most rooms in the 3-story house. The downstairs family room with a large leather sectional/entertainment area, pool table, and granite bar (with stools, second fridge and sink), opens out to a brand new (2022) 6-person hot tub, which is situated on an outside deck with a high-top bar table and sitting area facing Sunapee Mountain and Lake. A wireless Sonos sound system lets you enjoy your favorite playlists throughout the house and on the deck.
For more private time, squirrel off to the study on the cushioned elongated bay window seat, the soft engulfing sectional, or at the full desk to enjoy a book, write notes, or just get some work done with high-speed connectivity. The vaulted two-story living room, two floor-to-ceiling stone fireplaces, wooden cross beams, and rope-railed wooden steps down to the water, set the tone for an elegant, but authentic mountain experience.
Hardwood floors, slate, granite, and modern tension wire railing. Five large plasma screen televisions. All new appliances in the open concept kitchen with granite counters and eat-at island, large fridge, double oven, gas stove, and 2 refrigerated Thermador refreshment drawers. Extra fridge downstairs in bar/game room kitchenette. Extra cooking with a new six-burner gas grill and a Green Egg. Farmhouse table, overlooking the lake and opening up to an elevated patio for breakfast or drinks, seats ten comfortably (12 chairs available). Granite kitchen island seats an additional 4 and patio tables seat and additional 8 for informal meals. Four private bedrooms and a large loft space has a queen and four generously-sized bunk beds, and the house has additional sleeping space with two comfortable queen-sized pullout couches (one in the large loft and another downstairs). Luxurious cotton sheets, down pillows and blankets, all the cooking and living essentials needed and a brand new large capacity washer and drier deliver an extremely comfortable and convenient stay.
Close to beautiful hiking trails, the ski mountain, the neighboring Fells Gardens and Estate (open to the public), and 20 restaurants. Half way between the town of Newbury and New London (4 miles in either direction) with great bakeries, restaurants, grocery, pharmacy, and liquor stores, and many quintessential New England shops, galleries, and experiences.
Pets on a case by case basis and additional fees apply.
A perfect place for a reunion of friends. The house and location exceeded our expectations. With plenty of room for our eight guests to gather around the fireplace playing games, enjoying the hot tub, pool table and well appointed kitchen, there were still places to enjoy personal space reading a book, working and gazing at the spectacular view. Everything in the house worked well and was in excellent condition. Our host was the best! Alys offered us great advice on where to dine, hike, explore and shop. She was easy to contact and very responsive to our needs. Sunapee and the surrounding area have lots to offer. Our only regret is not staying longer.
The pictures of this property do not do it justice, nestled in the woods and overlooking Lake Sunapee it's a beautiful setting. The home is large and beautifully appointed with attention paid to detail throughout. The bedrooms are large and dispersed throughput the home offering privacy to all. The common areas are delightful and there are many spots to relax and unwind, both indoor and out. Multi level patios, fire pit and grill round things out along with the walkway down to the dock on the lake. We stayed at the property during the events around our sons wedding and it was the perfect place for us to gather with our close friends. Aly is the perfect host and was very focused on our experience, we could not have asked for more.
Sincerely, the home was even better than advertised. My friends and I were blown away. Location! Location! Right on the lake and right near Sunapee mountain. It has something to offer for every season. It’s late September in New England but the water was still warm enough to go for a swim and for those less eager to do so, the hot tub offered a great alternative. We were close to a number of restaurants, golf courses, hiking trails but it was great to come back to a big, clean home to relax when we were done. Everything was clean and the kitchen was fully stocked so we could cook all of our meals if we wanted to. There was plenty to do at night at the home as well with a billiards table, fire pit, and plenty of board games. Our host was very responsive as well for any questions we had and provided us with a super helpful information packet before we even arrived. Overall, a truly amazing experience and all of us would love to return to this home again in the future.
We enjoyed our stay - beautiful views of Lake Sunapee, lake access for our paddle boards, kayaks and tubes plus use of the board, kayak and canoe provided by the hostess. The house was very clean, great attention to detail and spacious enough for us to stay there with our families - celebrating time together and a wedding anniversary.
Wonderful property with breathtaking views! The property is carefully maintained and well-stocked! We enjoyed swimming, campfires and hot tub time. Plenty of space to spread out and to be together. Highly recommend!
This vrbo was a perfect fun place for all ages. The owner went above what was described on the site. It was as if the owner planned a perfect vacation spot for her guests to share. Everything was comfortable and the house was like staying in a five-star resort. Hope to be back every year.
Can't say enough positive things about this property and the people who own/rent it. What a beautiful spot to take in a long weekend with family to celebrate a major milestone. From the beginning, Aly was great at communicating with us about the property and being flexible regarding our stay. She was wonderful to work with. And the house is such a treat to stay at. It has everything you could possibly want in a vacation home and more. We could have stayed for weeks, and all left wanting to stay longer. From swimming off the dock to BBQs, sunset dinners and late night billiards, we felt spoiled and completely relaxed. Already talking about next summer!
Aly was an outstanding and accommodating host. The house is beautiful and the location is top notch for a get away. Can’t recommend this stay enough for a larger group of people.
Best place to stay on the lake period!!!! Great house and great communication…would not change a thing!!!!
10/10! Aly was an exceptional host. She had fresh flowers in the living area and was very pleasant to communicate with. The home is beautiful and the view is lovely.
