We spent 10 days here and the first three hours after arrival we devoted to just watching the birds. The house functions as a luxurious bird hide where you can sit comfortably and watch a wide variety of species. From time to time, a mixed armada of American White Pelicans and Double-crested cormorants would swim by, fishing together in groups of 60+ birds. The cormorants dive to get the deep fish, which escape toward the surface, only to be scooped up by the pelicans. This action sends the fish back down to the realm of the cormorants. The grebes, both Western and Clark’s, flirted and danced together in that extraordinary way that only grebes can dance together. In all we saw upwards of 60 bird species and photographed a high percentage of what we saw. Mammals viewed from the living room included nutria, river otter, muskrat, mink and California ground squirrel. This house is where the BBC photographers stayed when filming the grebe segment for the “Life of Birds” documentary narrated by Sir David Attenborough. It is situated at the south end of Klamath Lake, where the natural topography creates a fertile environment for wildlife. The location is special. It is an excellent venue for people who are serious about birding.
There is abundant wildlife. Lots of local fishing. An attentive conservator of the land is your host. Wonderful local museums and attractions.
This house is awesome. We enjoyed our time here for about 4/5 nights. It was my husband and I and our two sons (ages 15 & 11). We all loved it. Plenty of space for all of us. Master bedroom is a loft and huge. Even a pull out chair/couch in the office area. Guest room was spacious too. Kitchen was perfectly laid out and well stocked. SO many birds! Very close to driving to old town, downtown, and other areas of Klamath Falls. We didn't want to leave. The property and house was so inviting and comfortable. We had spent 5 days in Bend and this was our last stop on our vacation and it was perfect and exactly what we were looking for. Quiet, spacious, beautiful. Ceiling fans and having the doors open (with screens shut) made the temperature comfortable. Very comfortable at night with just fans on and outside doors closed. A true VRBO experience. Stephanie was a pleasure to communicate with. She was very fast to respond to questions. House was equipped with everything one would need. We even had a day long family retreat where we updated our families mission, vision and values and it was the perfect environment to have this day of brainstorming and activities. Highly recommend this place. Can't wait to return.
They say in real estate that it is all about location. Not only was this home interesting (if a bit eclectic), it was in a wonderful location if you want to sit on the patio a few feet from and above the lake looking across at Putnam Park while pelicans camp out on the rocks in the lake and the Grebes do their antics. Lovely! The home was well outfitted and comfortable. It certainly does fell like it is someone's home and possibly it is. Spacious. Through the wall of windows to the south you see the large tree next to the house (from the Master Loft it feels like you are in a tree house), the lake and Putnam Park. Plenty of space. Large garage. Wifi worked fine (and I was uploading lots of hi-res images). The only thing we found a bit disappointing is that the boat and canoe and the dock are rather tired. We didn't feel comfortable trying to take the boats out. But being next to the lake, we didn't need to. A wonderful stay. I think I would have enjoyed meeting the people who built the home. ;-)
Very good!
The Carpenter property is a wonderful place to stay if you are in the Klamath Falls area and want to enjoy the beauty of the Klamath lake. From the deck you have a front row seat to amazing bird activity.
This house has very nice lake view as shown in the pictures. We saw a river otter living in front of the house and a pelican plus many birds during our 5-night stay in July. We also saw deer in the neighborhood several times. We had a very pleasant stay. The following are some small caveats. There are many bugs and mosquitoes outside the house. Maybe this is the drawback for living at lake front. Thus, I didn’t go to the deck area. We were careful when going in and out of the house, not to let mosquitoes in. When we came back to the house on one night, there were so many bugs on the glass door, attracted by the light inside, which was a bit scary. Fortunately we didn’t encounter mosquitoes inside the house. Some of the window screens seemed to be a bit worn out, so we closed the windows at night to prevent mosquitoes coming in. The house has many large windows, so it could get a bit warm in the summer, but it didn’t really bother us. Besides, the master bedroom on the 2nd floor doesn’t have a door, and only has curtains for the privacy. In addition, the WiFi was sometimes slow. In spite of these small issues, overall this is still a great house rental.
We were in town for our son’s graduation from OIT. We had many tasks to accomplish before the ceremony and Stephanie’s property provided us with a calm and serene environment after a long day. Wonderful place!
We walked in and the first thing is the water the Birds sitting on the dock and all we needed was a cold beer. The kitchen made it easy for us to stay in. The view made it easier...loved it
I had a wonderful experience staying at the Carpenter residence in Klamath Falls. The home was ideally located to enjoy the bird life right outside and still minutes from town if you wanted to run in for dinner. I would highly recommend this house for anyone wanting to come stay in a lovely home and enjoy the area of Klamath Falls.
