Nestled between lush mountains, waterfalls, and the turquoise waters of Kauai’s North Shore, Hanalei is one of Hawaii’s most picturesque and sought-after destinations. At its center is the world-famous Hanalei Bay, a stunning two-mile crescent of golden sand offering swimming, paddleboarding, surfing, and unforgettable sunsets framed by breathtaking mountain views.
Just steps from the beach, Hanalei Town blends old Hawaii charm with upscale island living. Stroll to boutique shops, art galleries, local markets, and acclaimed restaurants beneath towering monkeypod trees. With its relaxed atmosphere, natural beauty, and walkable layout, Hanalei offers an experience that feels both elevated and effortlessly laid-back.
Whether you're exploring the shoreline, enjoying world-class dining, or simply taking in the spectacular scenery, Hanalei captures the very best of island life.
What makes Mala Pu'a Ma Ke Kai (“Little Garden by the Sea”) especially rare is how easily you can enjoy it all from one home base. You’re close enough to Hanalei Bay for easy beach days and sunset walks, and just minutes from the heart of town for coffee, dinner, and local favorites—then you can return to a private, lush garden setting that feels peaceful and tucked away.

Getting Around:
One of the biggest advantages of Mala Pu'a Ma Ke Kai (“Little Garden by the Sea”) is the location—many guests enjoy walking to Hanalei Bay and into Hanalei Town for dining, boutiques, and local favorites.
We recommend renting a vehicle for the best access to the beauty of Kauai’s North Shore and beyond. When exploring the rest of the North Shore (and the island overall), a car is the easiest option, and drive times can vary—planning a little extra time is always a good idea.
Other Things to Note:
A Few Friendly Reminders During Your Stay
To help ensure a wonderful experience for both our guests and the local community, we kindly ask that you embrace the spirit of aloha during your time on Kauai.
Please remember that our home is located within a residential neighborhood. Out of respect for nearby residents, we ask that noise levels be kept low, particularly before 8:00 AM and after 9:00 PM.
When visiting Kauai's beautiful beaches, please use caution and be mindful of ocean conditions, which can change quickly. For the safest experience, we recommend swimming at beaches staffed by lifeguards.
As you explore the North Shore, you'll encounter several historic one-lane bridges. Local courtesy is simple: allow a small group of vehicles (typically 5–7 cars) to cross before taking your turn. If you're further back in line, please wait patiently and allow traffic from the opposite direction to proceed. A little patience goes a long way in keeping traffic flowing smoothly and preserving the island's friendly atmosphere.
Most importantly, take your time, drive with aloha, and enjoy all that Kauai has to offer.
We hope you relax, unwind, and make yourself completely at home during your stay. Mahalo for being our guest!
