Stayed Apr 20, 2024We have enjoyed staying at this cottage very much. Kept ourselves very busy exploring Iceland to the fullest during the days, comming back in the evening we felt welcomed and had everything what we needed to rest and enjoy some off time. We had perfect weather but even if we didnt we would happily just stay at the cottage enjoying ourselves. And as a bonus last night of our stay we were given the best gift for farewell from the skies... northern lights.. magical. It looked exactly like on the main photo of the property. Thank You very much Maja. Will will treasure these unforgettable moments.

Stayed Mar 26, 2024Until our stay at the cabin, I'd forgotten what silence feels like. Coming from the daily bustle of passing cars and leaf blowers, the feeling of opening a window and hearing nothing is surreal. The feeling is further solidified by the ~15 minute drive down a gravel road, through small hills and farms and between two frozen lakes. That said, the cabin isn't isolated. Maja's house is just up the gravel road, and she is a caring and concerned host. She checked in with us on our first day and was always helpful with any questions we had, from local shopping and food recommendations, to how well our plans would align with the weather forecasts. The cabin is well-equipped with an arsenal of vacation information: an extensive list of day trips, a property map with walking paths, resources for weather updates. Checking the weather and road closures over breakfast became an unexpectedly fun ritual. Driving up to the crest of the hill and seeing the little cabin, porch-light lit, at the end of a long day. Watching out of the loft window, half-awake, as the sky turns green and teal. Walking over to meet the horses. Eating a home-cooked meal while watching the evening sun light up the mountains. These are the moments we hope to return to soon.

Stayed Nov 11, 2023While they were weak, we were able to see the Northern Lights from the cottage multiple nights. No light pollution to interfere. Great location for exploring the south. Quiet, but still easy access to services in Selfoss. Highly recommend!

Stayed May 26, 2023Nordunes was perfect! For the Southern part of our Icelandic vacation, and for our day drive into the East, this was Exactly what we hoped to experience for where we would lodge - feeling as if we were the only people within a wide open space, but yet not isolated was fulfilled our hopes. Varied weather Enhanced our time, but on the clear days a 180 degree long-range view for Miles to snow-capped mountains, the *Close volcano, and glaciers rivaled any view of our drives from the Northwest and into the East. We listened to the bird calls of the Wimbrel and Snipe and were visited by Rock Ptarmigan. Sheep with *tiny lambs (this was a late Spring time visit) on the drive into Nordunes captured our hearts and the Icelandic Ponies grazing roadside added to the charm. On the large property, we enjoyed an off-track walk through the unique terrain that took us to a musical stream dotted with yellow water plants and it had a small, but lovely waterfall. This time spent exploring around Nordunes was a sweet surprise on our last day with abundant sunshine, crystal clear long-range views in every direction and ponies grazing nearby! We were graced with *wind or a slight breeze during our entire visit to Iceland which prevented flying insects from finding us so we relished the diverse beauty of Iceland whether out exploring or in this little cabin. Nordunes is picture postcard location. Maja was welcoming and we were happy to meet her *Beautiful sheepdog, too. Perfect - in every way.

Stayed May 20, 2023This was our 4th time at Maja's properties and we loved everything about it. The weather didn't cooperate very well on this trip, but we stayed warm and cozy and the cabin is a great spot to come home to after day trips in the area!

Stayed Sep 29, 2022We stayed at Nordurnes for 8 nights while we explored southern Iceland. This location was perfect and peaceful to come back to each day. One bit of advice we would pass on is that if you are stopping at the grocery store before coming to the cabin, the small refrigerator does not have a freezer, so plan on eating any frozen items the first night. Overall thought, the solitude here was just magnificent and we were rewarded with an aurora on our last night! Maja was an excellent host and provided some tips on some local attractions. We are already trying to figure out a return visit here!

Stayed Jul 9, 2022My wife, adult daughter and I loved this place. It's located amid horse and sheep pastures with vistas of distant mountains, well away from towns and, in fact, from other houses. The house, though small, is very comfortable and feels much larger than its size. The many windows let in a lot of Iceland's long summer daylight, and the east-facing ones frame the volcano Hekla on those rare days when it isn't cloaked in cloud. The kitchen is well equipped, there’s an eclectic selection of CDs, and we found our host's extensive guide packet very helpful. Our host stopped by with her dog a bit after we checked in to make sure everything was okay, and when we mentioned that our daughter rides, she directed us to a neighbor ten minutes away who breeds horses and gives trail rides. Her brief visit, as well as her communications to us before our arrival, made us feel well cared for. Our only regret is that, with our vacation time coming to an end, we had to leave.
