Perfect low-key house mere steps from the ocean. Plenty of space indoors and outdoors to see and hear the ocean. Easy walk to Center Street. My husband and I will be back!
I cannot say enough about this house and the view from the back deck. We will be back!!
Great location on the beach
Love Folly, lovely location near enough to walk to store/restaurants, and right on the dunes. However, I would not book this rental again. The lower level suite is noticeably musty, and dingy. The main bedroom is separated from the living room by french doors with a broken latch, jury rigged ( unsuccessfully ) with a paper clip. Per other reviews, the nonstick pots are not safe for use, there are electrical issues( front room SE plug hissed and sparked, exposed wires), and where other rentals would have books or games for a rainy day, here you have family photos and keepsakes. If you are a group of adults who all go to bed and rise at the same time, love cottagecore, and are not planning to cook in, it’s perfect.
Overall a great stay. Could use a bit of TLC in some spots but it had everything we needed and the description was very accurate. Made some great memories at this house!
We had a nice time with some pros and cons. There are a number of positives about the house. Closeness to the beach, deck, functional kitchen, okay layout of the upstairs, lots of windows and views. There were several minor things that an old beach house will have such as a door knob coming off several times and no screwdriver available (had to use a potato peeler to refasten), a sometimes running/refilling toilet, noisy air exchange unit, wobbly deck bench with broken leg, etc. The real problem is that the downstairs half of the house was not really habitable. A strong musty/mold odor pervades it. We aired it out several times a day as well as emptying the brand new dehumidifier (it's box was still in the trash cart) multiple times a day. The odor was still so strong both sets of visiting friends did not want to stay in it. This problem appears in other reviews so I assume it is an ongoing/chronic problem. When renting it you'll be paying for it but don't count on being able to use it. I spoke with a Carolina One rep who was very courteous and understanding. He stated that the place had been cleaned of mold/mildew but agreed that if it still had a strong smell that it was unacceptable. He arranged for a modest refund - less than we wanted and more than the owner wanted to pay. While we had a nice vacation, future renters should inquire about this issue.
Plus things great view and neighborhood. Upstairs beds comfortable. Minus things Downstairs mother in law suite very musty and dark. Needs dehumidifier. Would not let guests use this room. So for a two bedroom house, not a good value for 800.00 a night.
Location was perfect! We absolutely loved that you could see the beach from the windows of the living space. The in-law suite where our teenage girls stayed was not the best. It was musty and none of the lights worked. The AC stopped working but was fixed the same day, so that was great! Impressed with the quick response. Folly Beach is a great place and we will definitely be back next year!!
The people at Carolina One were great! We had a small issue that was handled promptly. The property left a little to be desired though but as far as being right on the beach was great. Some cosmetics in the house needed updated and perhaps painting. We didn’t spend any time in the grandma suite. If the owners would invest around $10,000 in the property this would be one of the nicest houses on the island.
Property is located in a great location but upon entry, the house had a noticeable sewage smell throughout. The property manager was great and quick to come and use “scent bombs” to mask the odor, but after a few days, the smell had returned. Most of the furniture was older/worn down and the kitchen could have been more appropriately stocked. All in all it was a great trip but given the above issues, we would not look at rebooking this property.
