Loved the dense green buffer to the sea, sound of birds, warm October sun, and lovely home--great place to stay!
Was a great place to stay for family reunion!
Harbor Island is like a nature preserve. Wildlife all around on land and in the sea. It is a .25 mile walk from 39b to the ocean along a boardwalk. Since the island is facing ACE Basin and Edisto Island, the wind and waves come from the ocean to the left. This results in almost non-existent waves. The adults enjoyed the relaxation, but the kids wanted more action in the water. The tides on the Pelican Point side of the island (closest to Hunting Island) we super dramatic, exposing a few miles of sand bars. At the peak of low tide, we walked almost 4 miles from our spot on the beach to the front of Hunting Island. Wonderful place to vacation! Beaufort is 30 minutes away and a great place for a history tour and shopping. Spent one morning at Hunting Island exploring the boneyard on South Beach and the light house. Highly recommend Harbor Island for a relaxing beach vacation surrounded by nature.
Nice location for a vacation during the Covid-19. Beach was empty. The house needs some serious updates and deep cleaning. Surface cleaning was fine but deep cleaning is needed. Old food and spices need to be thrown away. Most people will not use someone else’s leftovers. Local restaurants were nice and everyone was following the “wear your mask order “
There's lots of room in this house, and can sleep 10 easily. However, it was not clean and the yard behind the houses floods with rain - you have to wade through standing water to get to the boardwalk. Dealing with the property manager required repeated follow-up from me, to be sure the house was reserved, to be sure my payment was processed, etc. If I hadn't repeated called, I'm not sure the online reservation would have secured the house. About Harbor Island: it's beautiful from a natural perspective, but not beach-friendly. For most of our week, the tide was out during the day, taking the water's edge hundreds of yards from the beach. You had to walk on sand/mud flats to get to the water, but still it was very shallow. Just understand this so you aren't expecting to plunge into the ocean and waves!
We have always been mesmerized by this island and that will never changed! It is now a Thanksgiving tradition! This is our second stay at this unit and once again we were not disappointed! Always well stocked, amazing views of the ocean and so cozy!
We loved the location and enjoyed our trip. The house could use a few updates, particularly the beds and the cookware in the kitchen (which was comically horrible and dated). But everything was functional, the views were amazing, and the beach on Harbor Island is pristine.
We loved our stay here. Very comfortable . Very clean. The best part is the back porch. Drinking coffee in the morning watching the sun rise. Looking at the stars over a glass of wine. The walk to the beach is so pretty. Like the other reviewers said... it takes a minute but we loved it! We took pictures of this untouched beauty. It was Labor Day weekend and it was not crowded. I hope we can make it a place we regularly visit.
This property was perfect for our family of 9. Everyone had their own bedroom/bath and the kitchen and dining area was very accommodating. The kitchen/pantry could use some organization and deep cleaning along windowsills, baseboards, and under beds & sofas would be recommended. We loved that we were on the end of Harbor Island and secluded from most of the other homes. We knew the beach was a little walk so we brought our wagons and I’m glad we did! FYI if you’re looking for big waves to play in, this IS NOT the beach for you! It’s VERY shallow, which was fine for us since we have 3 small children. However, at low tide, you have to walk about 50 yards or so just to get to the water! We weren’t expecting that, but we planned our beach time around high tide, and went to the nearby Hunting Island State Park a few times to play in the waves. The local restaurants were great!! Overall, this was a great family vacation spot!
The rental company did not say in property description nor any correspondence that parking passes were extra. So I was shocked when they called the week before our arrival when I was charged another $140 for 2 extra passes. The location was ok. Not what we were expecting but that is our fault for not knowing the area. A ton of bugs, bring tons of OFF. But it is marshy so we were prepared. The pool was nice, community was pleasant. The nearby Hunting Island State park was wonderful. Although with a fee per day, it was pricey to take the whole family each day.
