Stayed Jul 28, 2025Our recent experience with Uncle Karel's Guest House Name was nothing short of a nightmare and a complete scam. We booked through VRBO well in advance, and our reservation was confirmed and paid for in full. However, upon arrival, we were met with a shocking discovery: our reservation was not honored.The listing provided a number for housekeeping as the primary contact for the property. When we called, they seemed completely unaware of our booking. After countless attempts to get answers, we finally managed to contact the owner directly. This is where the situation devolved from frustrating to outright appalling.Instead of attempting to resolve the issue or even investigate why a paid reservation wasn't honored, the owner's immediate and only response was to instruct the housekeeper to call the police on us! He sounded the alarm, after we were there for over an hour. This was despite us providing all our booking information and proof of payment. The owner was incredibly nasty, dismissive, and showed absolutely no interest in getting to the bottom of the situation. It was clear they had no intention of assisting us or rectifying their mistake.We were left stranded in Barbados with no accommodation, out of pocket, and dealing with an incredibly hostile and unprofessional owner. Save yourself the stress, financial loss, and potential confrontation. This establishment took our money and left us stranded.
