Maurepas, Louisiana
Upon arrival, guest will see parking with a sidewalk leading way to a raised and welcoming large front porch. Past the porch, is entry to the home where you will walk into a spacious and open floor plan.
Upon entry, guest will be standing at the start of the full kitchen with all modern amenities including all stainless appliances, (French door refrigerator, microwave, and range with oven) garbage disposal, granite sink, porcelain counter tops, center island with breakfast bar for 3 and all kitchen set up items needed for your stay. At the rear of the kitchen, just to the right of the entry is the full bath. The barn style door offering access and privacy to the full bath was pulled from an antebellum home on river road in Reserve, LA and re-purposed specifically for this property.
Next to the kitchen is a dinner nook with seating for four that looks out over Chinquapin canal that is the perfect setting for a mid day lunch or an evening dinner watching the sunset over the swamp. The room then flows into to the living area equipped with a smart LED TV loaded with current apps for streaming as well as YouTube TV included. Furnishings in the living area include a full size couch, love seat and oversized chair along with end and coffee tables. The living room also has 5.1 surround sound and low light lamps for late night movies.
Behind the sofa are the stairs that will lead guest to the second story loft that contains 2 queen sized beds with custom built head boards from reclaimed doors that date back to the 1860s, a half bath, nightstand and armoire for any garments that may need to be hung. All shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, toilet paper, and coffee are provided with your stay.
After guests are done inside, the back door leads out onto a fully raised deck that stretches the width of the property with lots of space for sun, cooking, fishing, and just taking in the scenery. Four fishing poles are provided to guest.
Connected to the back deck is a covered deck that extends 30’ over the water and has 2 -3500 lb boat lifts and a fish cleaning station. Guests are welcome to bring their own water craft and can be kept in the boat house for the duration of their stay. There is a convenient boat launch at the front of the neighborhood for you to launch upon arrival. Lift planks can be adapted for different types of boats if needed. Boat house also includes power for charging and outdoor lighting.
The Chinquapin Canal opens into Blind River and is a short boat ride to Lake Maurepas as well as the Diversion Canal. Along both routes, there are endless places for fishing, frogging, and touring places most people never get to see from land. Whether you fish from the dock for catfish, or hit the stumps in your own boat for wide mouth bass, spotted bass, sac a lait, and other native fish to the area, you are almost sure to bring home a great dinner.
If fishing isn’t your thing, there are many other adventures around the lake! You are minutes from the sand bars in Lake Maurepas. A quick jog north of the lake takes you to the Tickfaw River where the popular hot spots The Prop Stop and Tin Lizzie’s are located, as well as Sun Buns and Middendorph’s in Manchac. This area and the lake are also prime tubing, skiing, and wake boarding spots. A little closer brings you to the Diversion Canal that hosts Canal Bank, Dicarlo’s Food and Spirits, Lagniappe, and Rum Buoy’s. If you don't have a boat and need to rent one, you can contact Geaux Outdoors for availability.
Even-though Whiskey Business is located in the heart of the swamp, there are several locations close by that offer various services to our guests. All within 6 miles are Brian’s Supermarket, Whitehall Grocery, New Orleans Original Daiquiris, Dollar General, along with various restaurants, bars, and fuel stations. Delivery is not available by Waitr etc. however, both grocery stores have delis and can take custom pizza orders for pick up. (Make sure to call as their hours vary with the seasons!)
The most appealing part of this property is the environment that it is located. We are in nature and with that comes the possibility of some amazing wildlife sightings. Many species of birds and owls are abundant as well as bald eagles. The occasional alligator, deer, and snake may be spotted as well. Please be respectful of their territory we are in their habitat. We don't restrict access to the lofts or decks, but we are not responsible for any injuries that may occur by entering the loft/deck areas. Children must be supervised on walkways/lofts and docks at all times.
Two kayaks are provided to explore the canal and swimming is not restricted but please use extreme caution due to the possibility of wildlife as well as heavy boat traffic. The canal is a not wake restricted and can get very busy at times.
great getaway
We enjoyed our 2 night stay. Very clean and comfortable. Caught fish from the deck. Could tell that the owner/host actually cared about his property and his guests.
Great atmosphere, Great Location, Great Memories!!
We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful house. It is a very unique house that we loved. The house is very clean and decorated beautifully. My son loved being able to fish right off the dock, he caught a few catfish. The neighborhood is very quiet and relaxing. If I need to come back to Louisiana I would definitely stay here again.
This property was a unique stay! It is a large beautiful metal building with a spacious living room, high ceilings and kitchen and loft bedroom. It’s right on the water in the canal. We caught a few fish and We enjoyed the quiet time. The host, Stephen, was very responsive to our needs. A must stay!
Place was beautiful and very clean. Everything we need was there. Beautiful area, fished right of pier, caught, catfish, garfish, bass and perch. My grandson had the best time. The owner was very accommodating, will definitely be back. Thank you for such a wonderful time.
We had a great trip. The place is great and Stephen is a great host. Its location on the bayou is a fun experience.
Laid back and very relaxing weekend
Rained prior to our stay so water was high. Still enjoyed our stay. Brought my boat for our 4 day stay so we set out catfish lines. Caught about 30 fish and had a fish fry with some of the fish and brought the rest home to freeze.
This is the second time staying at this property in six months, and I can’t wait to go back again! Not only is it beautiful inside and out, but the owners are phenomenal, and have excellent customer service. The perfect place for some R and R.
It was great
This property was exactly the way it was described, Clean, updated decor, extremely comfortable. We brought our party barge which worked great on the boat lift. The host was fantastic, any questions we had he was able to help with. If you love to be on your boat and enjoy floating in the water, check out the sandbar in Maurepas Lake. We will be back to this place.
Communication was easy-peasy, and all accommodations were perfect - clean, considerately-arranged, and comfortable. Owners are super accommodating and low-key; would definitely come back to lay out in the sun and look over the zen canal, again.
It was very pleasant and a peaceful place to spend the weekend
No kids, and relatively good health offer my wife and me a season of travel. When traveling, we like to experience life in that area, the way a local would. A cabin overlooking Pike’s peak, or The Falls at Reed's Island (property ID: 309336 on VRBO, fantastic!) when visiting Hawaii. Why stay in a hotel in New Orleans, when you can enjoy the sights and sounds of being on a canal? Yes, it’s a little over an hour of travel to get to the French Quarter, but worth every second. Stephen, most of your patrons won’t have the pleasure of you, and your family vacationing next door, but for us, it was the cherry on top.
